The Soft Spots Going Soft EP premiere

The Soft Spots, from Philly, are drifting out to sea.  It’s a dark, vast body of water lit by turquoise bioluminescence, and clouds of hazy synths.  The best kind of sea, really.

The lead off song, “Hiding from the Sun” pulls you in with a long, dreamy intro and swirling, icy wisps of chilled out vocals.  Replete with 80′s nostalgia, it’s hard not to picture a dramatic movie montage in which the twenty something protagonist tries everything to get their lost love back.  Here at Crystal Days Radio, we love long intros, and the payoff is certainly worth it.  When the beat and bass kick in at 1:50, it almost feels like you could be at a Cure show in the early part of the previously mentioned decade, witnessing an unknown but equally talented opening act on the cusp of making it big.

Floating in on a wave of blissed out, spring reverb drenched guitars, the second track, “Going Soft” has a mellow Ronettes-style beat that is reminiscent of the Raveonettes --- or going back a bit further, Slowdive and the Jesus and Mary Chain.  It’s going to fit impressively well on that Spring 2017 playlist you’re building in your mind right now.  Get ready for some sunshine and dreamy afternoons.  Maybe after hearing this song you’ll realize that your hard-edged darkness has been softened by the one who’s been making not-so-well-hidden eyes at you all winter in history class.

If one of these songs doesn’t get a music video shot on videotape with lots of blown out, hyper-saturated colors, fog and neon lights I will be severely disappointed!  Look out for “Going Soft” on Vol 22 (Icebreaker) of Crystal Days Radio, out next Wednesday.
