technically it originated as an ancient pagan celebration of the spring equinox. "Since pre-historic times, people have celebrated the equinoxes and the solstices as sacred times," University of Sydney Professor Carole Cusack said. And in most countries in Europe, the name for Easter is derived from the Jewish festival of Passover. These are some examples:Greek the feast is called Pascha, in Italian Pasqua, in Danish it is Paaske, and in French it is Paques
But in English-speaking countries, and in Germany, Easter takes its name from a pagan goddess from Anglo-Saxon England
That goddes was Eostre (or Ostara), a goddess of spring or renewal and that's why her feast is attached to the vernal equinox Thats why in Germany the festival is called Ostern. So as the times changed many of the pagan customs associated with the celebration of spring eventually became absorbed within Christianity as symbols of the resurrection of Jesus. Easter eggs go back to the Ancient Babylonians. They believed an egg fell from heaven into the Euphrates River, and "hatched" the goddess of fertility, Astarte (also known as Ashtur, Ishtar, and, yes, Easter). Pagans exchanged eggs as gifts during their springtime festival. And where do actually the rabbits come into the sotry well, rabbits are also associated with fertility and were symbols linked to the goddess Eostre. And that over time just became easy to market (by the big comanies) beacuse who doesnt like cute animals. So what do we know all religons are connected. They are just changed versions as people and humans changed over time. All religions are equaly valid beacuse in the end they all have some simularitis. I respect that this is a Christan holiday but lets not forget the history and why things are the way they are (im not shaming the other user i just want to add more informacion) Here are some links to read about it if you care: - https://www.christmascentral.com/resources/holiday-histories/history-of-easter/#:~:text=The%20Origin%20of%20Easter,time%20of%20the%20Jewish%20Passover. - https://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-04-15/the-origins-of-easter-from-pagan-roots-to-chocolate-eggs/8440134#:~:text=Well%2C%20it%20turns%20out%20Easter,Sydney%20Professor%20Carole%20Cusack%20said. -https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter#:~:text=Easter%2C%20also%20called%20Pascha%20(Aramaic,at%20Calvary%20c.%2030%20AD. - https://www.britannica.com/topic/Easter-holiday - https://www.gotquestions.org/easter-origins.html And happy Easter, or how ever your religion calls it
Reminder that Easter isn't about a bunny but about the resurrection of Jesus Christ
