Carmen Sandiego (2019) Big-Bang Event!

Welcome CrimeNet Sleuths! To the official Carmen Sandiego Big Bang event!

The event is hosted by @random-remzy And will last from May, all the way to early September. 

The premise of this event is to introduce fans to new places, cultures and histories that weren’t explored in the show. It’s an opportunity for everyone to show a piece of their identity, as well as learn about new things in a creative and positive environment!

For those who don’t know what a Big Bang is. It is an event where Fanartists and Fanfic writers come together to create new and unique pieces for a fandom.  Traditionally, in a big bang, all artists and writers are paired up. However, due to the diverse set of identities that represent the fans, We’ve decided that being paired is optional, and if you wish to participate with a standalone piece, then that will be perfectly okay!

Everyone is welcome to join! All you have to do is join the discord server and sign up via the form! (Link will be posted soon!)

The discord server will open on the 9th of May, and will remain open until the 25th of May. After that, the link will be closed and the event will be officially underway!

I'm sorry for not being able to post CS-AU art for a long time, i've had a rough couple of months—and it's been almost a year. There's more to come for me, but i'll keep updating you guys whenever i can ^^

Canon Heights(???) & Carmen Sandiego

Hi all 👋

I've recovered from the month and a half I spent on the Carmen Sandiego timeline and am back to my regularly scheduled obsessing

Which has expanded to the characters and how tall they are because seriously how tall are they oml????

Now, I assume plenty of us have seen this image before:

You can find it on the Official Carmen Sandiego Facebook back from Oct 2019 (not sure about the Instagram or Twitter I'm too lazy to check)

It's widely been used as the canon basis for the character's heights, though I found myself unsure of its reliability

There have been a multitude of posts using the same "Your [Insert Topic Here] Your Carmen Sandiego Character" format, none of which seem to be canon to the show

The Zodiac and Birth Month ones actively contradict each other after all

And I can hear you saying "this really doesn't matter, this is ridiculous online person I don't know"

And you would be correct but I'm nothing if not a nerd so guess what I stumbled upon during my timeline rewatch

Directly from the show, Graham's mugshot. This is a very frustrating image to be honest because if you look closely between the 5 and 6 foot mark there are 10 lines as opposed to the 12 there should be corresponding to each inch

But oh! There's another image with his mug shot!

This one has no numbers.

So I did what any sane person would do and resorted to math

First I took Chief's image and deleted her from existence, leaving only Graham

Then I undistorted the photo so that it properly lined up with the flat version Bellum displayed so I would know where the foot markers would line up

These were 14 notches apart. Equally unhelpful. So I accepted my fate and pulled out the pixel measurements. Between the 5 foot and 6 foot line was 405 pixels

Between the 5 foot mark and Graham's head was 358 pixels

Using this very simple equation

[A (px) / B (px)] * B (in) = A (in)

We can find out how tall Graham is

358/405 * 12 = 10.61

Round that up to 11 inches and add the 60 inches that makes up 5ft we get a resounding height of 5'11" (or 179 cm)

(if you're confused on why the math works, we know that 405 pixels = 12 inches, we're looking to find what 358 pixels out of that 405 is which is why we multiply that fraction by 12. 405/405 times 12 would equal 12, same idea applies to 358/405. I hope this makes sense.)

For the rest of the characters we can use this lovely height chart

You can find this chart on the Official Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter (I checked). They're separated into individual photos, I just lined them all up into one big one here, it has been unaltered otherwise.

What does this mean? Either the cast of Carmen Sandiego is ridiculously tall or this is all vaguely nonsense

The chart itself does have some merit though, using Carmen's 5'7" that is listed in the Facebook post as a basis you get these heights instead:

I'll calm down for this bit. There's both a positive and negative side to me seeing Arcane on Netflix that is related to me writing my AU. Let's talk about it

Upside: I feel like i ended up predicting the show! And it played out SO WELL for Arcane and the development of all characters, plots, and dynamics for literally everyone in the show. I feel so amazed that my ideas for my upcoming projects related to CS-BLANK-AU ended up showing up in such a life changing show such as Arcane

Downside: Now that Arcane has released such an amazing piece of media, i feel like i'm stealing my own plans because someone beat me to it. It feels selfish of me to feel this way. Yes the context is different for Arcane and CS-BLANK-AU, Yes they're different in their own ways, but i can't help but feel like i'm stealing and that i was stolen from.

I understand that nobody owns ideas and that people are capable of having the same ideas without ever knowing someone else had the idea. But this had taken a mental toll on me because of the fact that this both proves that my skills (in the context of Art and Writing) and creative thinking are at the very least, good; and that Arcane is amazing in all the ways ineffable to me and has quite literally changed my life. (ESPECIALLY AS SOMEONE WHO DEEPLY RELATES TO JINX.)

The worst part about this is that someone beat me to it. and now that Arcane is published, whatever i have already written for CS-BLANK-AU will end up looking like i just ctrl c + ctrl v'ed it from Arcane. Straight up plagiarism.

A project i've been working on solo since August 2023 will end up looking like a copied version of Arcane. I'm torn because of it.

Don't get me wrong, i still love Arcane with all my heart. i love the artworks, the animation, the storytelling, and the characters. honestly i love everything about it in such a deep level because of everything between the lines in it. But i can't help but feel hurt.

I won, but at what cost?
