I mean... Turkey have searched and let researchers look for the document with the alledged sultan approval and it was never found. The English have an Italian version that Turkey has rejected as it doesnt have an officla seal or signature (as the have meticulous kept ottoman archives dating back centuries). Paying smugglers to buy a good is still traffic.

The very best advice I can give people who are dismayed at how bad modern movies are is
1: watch older movies. like pre 1990s or 1980s. Black and White films are great but you don't HAVE to jump to black and white if you struggle with them. There is a history of colour out there, and you will be shocked at how many genres you've never tried before will end up appealing to you.
2: watch foreign films. It doesn't have to be New Wave Arthouse films from France or anything. Like Squid Game? Check out S. Korean movies. Like anime? Check out some Japanese films. Like big over the top action films? Watch RRR. Like Superhero style things? Check out Chinese historical Wuxai epics. Netflix has a plethora of foreign films from all over the world. You don't even need to go looking where you can watch them.
You don't have to wait for Hollywood if you are no longer entertained.

In fashion woth people woobifying Marie Antoinette and downplaying any damage she did as a momarch solely because she also experienced misogyny, I've also seen people do the same for DuBarry
"She was just misunderstood!!" Like I mean she did have a child slave that later testified against her during the revolution but what do I know

Barnes and Nobles is gonna start serving food and alcohol.
Everybody’s cracking jokes about how it’s a desperate attempt to stay relevant in the age of Amazon.
But you know what? Props to them. This is exactly what Blockbuster didn’t do. At no point was Blockbuster like “Hey, movie rentals aren’t the lucrative enterprise they once were. Perhaps it’s time we become known for our cheesy garlic bread.”

Idk who needs to hear this but it's not normal to form your preconceptions of other people based on where the stars were when they were born and you should try maybe having a conversation and forming your own opinions instead.

two weeks ago, four Black Honduran indigenous men were abducted at gunpoint from their homes in Triunfo de la Cruz. leaders of the Garifuna — descendants of African slaves and indigenous groups that have inhabited the Caribbean coast of Honduras since the late 18th century — were abducted and their disappearance is the latest example of the dangers faced by Afro-indigenous activists in their struggle over their ancestral lands.
nearly 250,000 Garifunas live in poor fishing and farming communities in Honduras. Garifuna communities and leaders for decades have suffered persecution, criminalization and killings because of their opposition to public and private projects that affect their ancestral territories, such as big tourism, oil companies and drug trafficking.
even though the Inter-American Court of Human Rights sentenced Honduras for violating human rights of Garifuna/Garinagu people in 2015, little has been done about it and the state of Honduras continues to harm and kill members of the indigenous community. the latest attack on Garifuna leaders is an attempt to intimidate and silence their fight for land.
what you can do: sign the petition to demand an immediate emergency investigation and action to save their lives.

on the 8th of may 1945 nazi germany capitulated and metropolitan france celebrated the end of fascism, the french settler-colonial authorities started a two month long period of massacres against indigenous algerians for daring to protest the colonial regime in favour of independence. known as the sétif, guelma, kherrata massacres, during that time french colonial forces and police, as well as white french settlers, bombed, shot and lynched thousands of algerian muslims and buried them in mass graves. many of them were then dug up and burned. today france claims up to 1000 algerian victims and 200 french ones in "retaliation". it's far more likely to be thousands more victims, some of whom were anticolonial activists but many more were uninvolved civilians who were massacred by settlers with the encouragement and involvement of french military and police. after this, near all algerian nationalist and anticolonial organizations were disbanded and their leaders imprisoned. the army also forced many muslim algerians to kneel in front of the french flag and repeat "we are dogs and ferhat abbas (a proeminent algerian independence activist) is a dog". very few french socialists and communists, some of whom were actively in a coalition with de gaulle in the new government, expressed solidarity with the algerian people or condemned the massacres.
this was eighty years ago today.

btw the katy perry/bezos' girlfriend/other four irrelevant billionaires 10 minute space stunt was not the first all female expedition no matter how much they try to market it as such. the first all female mission was in 1963 with soviet cosmonauts Valentina Tereshkova, Irina Solovyova and Valentina Ponomaryova - all three of which were working class and had to pass incredibly hard exams to be chosen from 400 potential candidates. just in case we started falling for the propaganda machine again
