Note, I am finding these threads on the twitter feeds of ICU nurses who are now dreading the horrors that Roe falling will bring to their hospitals. This, on top of the horrors that they’ve seen and continue to see because of the pandemic. They were already exhausted and hanging by a thread.

In honor of Lord Byron’s birthday I would like to remind you all of the time that Shelley and Keats, having not heard from him for some time, became concerned for his safety and it was determined that Shelley would go looking for him. Keats received a letter some time later that Shelley had found him in Venice, where he’d been having so much sex that he’d nearly died from malnourishment and dehydration. Keats’ entire response amounted to essentially, “You should probably have let him.”

Honestly I just feel really sad about Sarah Everard and I don’t even know where to go with that, so I’m just gonna ramble here.

I’m so sorry for her, for her family, for everyone who loved her. That a life that should have had many happy years and numerous accomplishments and milestones was cut short. And I’m so scared because she did it all as right as she could, and it didn’t matter. Someone whose job was to keep her safe did the worst thing and that makes me so sad and so angry.

I’m scared. I’ve been out late in maybe a little bit too few clothes, walked home alone from parties just a little bit tipsy because my friends wouldn’t come, I once sat on the floor in a random street waiting for an Uber because my heels were too high, I once got a taxi home almost black out drunk without anyone else because I misjudged my drinks and I was lucky that a nice bouncer found me an Uber and the driver got me home without anything terrible happening. But it could have been so much worse.

I had a man wake me up at 1am in a hostel to ask to kiss my feet, I’ve been grinded on in clubs, groped and wolf whistled, I was chased down the backstreets of Morocco by a group of men and luckily got home with my friends before there was trouble. And I’m one of the lucky ones.

I’m so scared and I’m so angry that we live in a world where it’s so fucking scary and that’s called being lucky. And I can’t even go to a vigil to pay my respects or voice my anger because the police will beat me up or I might catch a life threatening disease.

Sometimes I think the world is getting better and the threat is getting lower, and then things like this prove me very wrong.

I’m so sorry Sarah, I so hope that you’re in a better place. I hope you know that you have sparked a fight and a conversation that was well overdue.
