Regrann from @littlewanderersnyc - Family! And now for the best Independence Day news ever! Dorian is being discharged from the hospital today! What? Yes, you heard right. Here’s his story. His jaw is badly dislocated from an intentional injury. While he was sedated, the amazing veterinarians at the Animal Medical Center manipulated it back in place so he can at least eat! He’s only 1 1/2 pounds when he should be 4 pounds so he’s got a ways to go! Here’s the best news-a miracle really. Our suspicion was right. His right kidney is filled with fluid and backed up also due to the injury (he likely sustained multiple kicks or hard impact) which caused a malfunction so he was unable to void properly. So what’s the plan? To remove his kidney! And that surgery will be done when we neuter hm. He is not an appropriate surgical candidate right now. So he will go home with his great foster mom, Linda, @southbrooklyncats, get better and gain some weight and then the diseased kidney will be surgically removed when he’s a proper candidate. The prognosis is good and he will lead a normal life. We think the Animal Medical Center is amazing. All heart and no ego. Dorian was nowhere near euthanasia and we are lucky to be in the position to take care of him thanks to all of your support and help. We raised close to $6,000 which satisfied 100% of his bill. Together we saved this darling long haired kitten who suffered unspeakable trauma who lives to tell his tale. This will be the third broken jaw cat Little Wanderers rescued this year. Regrann from @littlewanderersnyc - Does anyone remember the subway cat on 155th street in Manhattan? She was living underground and many people tried to get her! Well guess what? She’s been rescued! Her name is Astrid, and she turns out to be a young (9 month old) female. This poor cat is shell-shocked! She’s been vetted, and is currently in foster care with the amazing @the_crazy_cat_fam! Local rescuers, @rightmeowrescue, @lifelovevegan and @purrfecttales truly bonded together and rescued Astrid who was in harms way for months! The moral of the story is simply this: be the change you want to see happen. If you want a cat rescued, spring into action and do what you can to make it happen. You will be richly rewarded. Regrann from @littlewanderersnyc - Family! Here is the update you’ve been waiting for on our little kitten Dorian. He’s stable and on anti-nausea medications, pain medications and fluids. Today, he went through a battery of tests and we are waiting patiently for the results. He is estimated to be between 14-17 weeks and only 1.5 pounds. He is extremely malnourished and has fairly extensive muscle wasting due to his dislocated jaw and poor eating. He had an echocardiogram today which revealed an enlarged heart (common in malnourished cats). He had two CT scans; one of his head and jaw. And one of his abdominal area to get a better grasp on his enlarged kidney. While he was sedated, the dental surgeons tried to manipulate the jaw to see if it could be closed. He will likely need a feeding tube. It is badly dislocated. There is a lot of buildup of fluid in his kidney so we are hoping that the testing gives us some answers. This poor kitten. He’s so malnourished they couldn’t even get enough blood for a full CBC (chemistry panel). Pray for Little Dorian. He’s getting everything he needs because we surely can’t turn our backs on him now. DORIAN Update - Regrann from @littlewanderersnyc - Family, Here is the update for Dorian. His jaw is definitely fractured and painful and we are so glad we got to him when we did. His tongue looked like leather and was all shriveled up from the heat. We raced him from Brooklyn to the Upper East Side in record time. His cries were heart wrenching. But right now, that’s the least of his worries. An ultrasound was performed and it’s not great news. His right kidney is the size of a golf ball when it should be the size of a kidney bean. The other kidney is normal size. Could be congenital. Could be infectious. Blood work shows abnormal renal values and acidosis. We are also wondering if he was injured in some way that caused a mechanical obstruction of his ureter causing the kidney to swell from backup of urine. We don’t really know and tomorrow’s testing and further diagnostics will shed some light into the puzzle. All we know is that he’s in the right place. He’s admitted to the ICU at the Animal Medical Center and he’ll get everything he needs. We can't imagine how he suffered in this heat. It’s a little miracle that baby Dorian even found us.
