Fashion Tips for MTF Trans Girls

I’m the new fashion advisor for @transadvicegroup ,an excellent trans advice blog that is ran entirely by a group of trans teens who want to help trans people of all ages in any way they can!

I just received a question from one of the individuals who is interested in receiving a trans care package. I wanted to post my advice publicly so I can help as many readers as possible.

Here is the question:

“I applied for a TCP and I’m looking for stuff that can hide my masculine body and make me look female dress and skirt wise. Can you help?

I’m a FTM trans guy, so I don’t have a lot of experience with MTF clothing, but after doing a bit of research, here’s what I found…

Basically, there are five different body shapes.The basic body shapes are the hour glass shape, the pear shape, the apple shape, the inverted triangle shape, and the column shape. http://sillytranswoman.blogspot.com/2011/01/help-find-clothes-that-fit.html?m=1#google_vignette is a wonderful resource that can help you figure out which body shape you have.

For MTF trans ladies, once you figure your body shape, it’s easier to research the type of clothing that hides those undesirable masculine features and accentuates the more feminine features, even if you have the inverted triangle body shape, which is often considered the most masculine.

As far as dresses and skirts goes, here’s a few tips that I found… •Flared skirts and dresses help accentuate the hips and create a waist •Tight fitting clothes tend to accent masculine features, avoid them •Black or khaki tend to go with anything •A tight top can be paired with a fuller skirt to achieve a more feminine look •Always dress age appropriately to help you blend in with other women •Shapewear can help the wearer achieve a more feminine look •High waist skirts add curves and volume to your lower body •Lace, silk, or other lightweight fabrics add softness and femininity to your look

Celeste - heavenly, of the sky

Mihir - Sun

Lakshanya - from Lakshmi, goddess of prosperity, good luck. Wife of Vishnu, depicted with a lotus flower

Indra - God of sky and rain - comparable to Thor/Zeus (likely derived from same deity)

Chandrasekhar - derived from an incarnation of Shiva, specifically the one in which he married Parvati. “Etymologically, the name comes from the Sanskrit words "चन्द्र (candra)", meaning "moon", and "शेखर (śekhara)", meaning "crest" or "crown" which is an epithet of Hindu god Shiva.” (wikipedia) 

Indra fits well with the sky theme of Celeste’s name, as did Mihir. Lakshanya is the odd one out. Her name means prosperity, and her time as Celeste certainly is pulling everything closer to prosperity. 

Lakshanya and Indra both have first names that are derived from deities. Their last name is derived from Shiva. 

Mihir, as Celeste, brought a lot of people into the sun, into freedom, with Icarus. Icarus flew too close to the sun, and Mihir died. Icarus was somewhat implied to have been named before Mihir’s death, but was it? Could have been named after him. 

Shiloh did the third Icarus on the Tartarus beacons. 

Indra was first introduced as Chance. Luck, or a second chance? Saving those who are still left behind, but Indra doesn’t need to be Celeste for that. 

If something happens to Lakshanya, Indra is a likely third Celeste. But something better NOT happen to her. :|

:D So I’m ridic excited to announce this. I’ve been working on it for actual months, and keeping it secret (except for Patreon lovelies), and meant to release it earlier but got delayed/derailed for several weeks due to hand injury/chronic illness flares, but I’m finally feeling better!! SO!!

(If you’re seeing this for the first time, Chameleon Moon is a really cool book series about LGBT/disabled/poly/asexual people with superpowers surviving a burning dystopian city with the power of love/hope/rock n’roll - and Life Within Parole picks up where the main series leaves off, giving the characters we know and love some backstory and deeper connections, and setting up the bigger world coming soon in Book 2!)

And now that’s a paperback just like the first one! (And they look awesome together. I have to say.)

And just - I love these stories? They are so poly, and so ace, and filled with the same feeling/importance as the first book - that marginalized people can and do not just survive but kick ass, and have fun, and fall in love - or don’t, bc rock on aro/ace ppl - but just freaking exist, even in a place where everything Is Actually On Fire, Always - and you meet a lot of new awesome people who are super important in Book 2 (and to me) and who I hope you love. They’ve made my head a better and safer-feeling place in this year that honestly has been the actual worst, and if you’ve read anything I’ve ever written, you know that’s why I write.

…I’m trying very hard to just say “I wrote a thing and it’s good,” and not apologize for it, because I believe it is. Maybe practice saying this too, if you write, especially if you’re indie/a lgbt/disabled/otherwise marginalized creator, like me. It helps.

So yes, if Chameleon Moon, a story about and for us, surviving, made your life better (or you think it would), read the stories in this book, or as an ebook. (You don’t need a Kindle.) They’re good.

…And also, seriously I’m just so happy. I have a 2nd actual physical book you can hold, in print, and it is gorgeous (Thank you @jillianlambertart​ for collabbing with me on the LWP cover art! It was so much fun and feels amazing!). The chapter headers and back cover are amazing too (thank you Lyssa Chiavari for the format/design sorcery)!

YOU’RE NOT GOING THAT WAY,  a Chameleon Moon Short Story, Is Now On Amazon!

Yesterday I revealed the cover of Book 2 of Chameleon Moon. Today, here’s that short story I’ve been yelling about for quite some time, finally now available! It opens Book 2 right up… and opens up the world beyond Parole, which I’ve been dying to do for literal years.

Follows the short story The Library Ghost in the anthology Life Within Parole, and immediately precedes Chameleon Moon Book 2: The Lifeline Signal. — Ash and Annie escaped Parole’s collapse to find the outside world is almost as damaged as the one they left behind, and every bit as changed. They’ve traveled almost three thousand miles, pursued by old enemies and new dangers to meet the brilliant Dr. Maureen Cole, who promises she holds not only the key to saving Parole, but weathering the toxic storms of the deadly wasteland called the Tartarus Zone. On the way, they keep an eye out for everything and everyone they lost in the collapse - like Regan, who was last seen leaving Parole by himself, under very suspicious circumstances, and Zilch’s precious organ jars, stolen by Eye in the Sky when Parole fell. There’s no telling what or who they might find out here in this strange new world, or what lies deeper in its heart. But a lot of road lies between them and their goal. And Parole isn’t the only place filled with ghosts. In Tartarus, they’re a lot more real than anywhere else.

It’s Super Important, and Super Intense, maybe the most so far. While the series is about hope/healing/survival, pain happens. Read with care, self- if necessary. And don’t worry, this story is not over. At all.

This story (and to some extent, 2) will just make Much More Sense/have more meaning if you’ve read The Library Ghost in Life Within Parole.
