YouTube is implementing an AI policy that tracks your watch history and determines your age with it. The only way to be able to continue watching the videos you want on YouTube if you've been falsley flagged as a minor by their AI is to give YouTube your government ID. This is being implemented in the US right now. It is essential to rage against this and put YouTube in the fucking ground if they continue with it—that may be the only way to make them backtrack. But damn isn't that hard to do when responding to this announcement with a polite but negative comment flags you for violating community guidelines and bans you from even posting it?

how Gray came to be

Gray, my reimagined OC from middle school. i yap about his conception below. boriiing warning

this Gray character i came up with in middle school was originally purposefully designed to be a fangirl-bait character. i was very into fandom culture at the time and i found myself wanting to create a hot brooding "shounen" character that other girls my age would want to kiss and write fanfics for. the truth is, i had no idea what traits in men most people find attractive because i wasn't particularly attracted to men myself. so i racked my brain, finding inspiration from most fictional men that's considered hot in online fanspaces i knew of (and listening to Oasis while daydreaming), and created this guy i named Gray.

(old art of him had been since lost to time. here's a sketch i made a while ago that's most accurate to how i originally imagined him... only way worse)

when i created him, i only had one goal in mind: to make him as fandom-able as possible. he was (by definition) tall, dark, and handsome. he had an overly tragic story. he was in a position of power (some kind of yakuza boss). he had a cold, calculating personality with a secret soft side. he had shippable tension with another character, which also ends tragically as the guy had to die in his own hands (and the guy's daughter grows up and ends up hunting him down and killing him herself). he was tailormade to create fangirls, i thought.

however, i received no reactions when i showed him to other people. i had been bracing myself for a load of thirsty comments or something like that, but he received a very lukewarm reception both online and offline. one time, he was even mistaken as a girl!! how did that happen?

i've created this character for the sole hope of getting him thirsted over. but since that didn't happen, he ends up getting shelved for a little while until i revisited him again last year... in a new little story and world called 'softpunk'.

this was pretty much a huge departure from his original homeworld. softpunk was set in a pretty much normal contemporary world, with much cuter aesthetics than what he's used to. he also had been downgraded from an intimidating mob boss to like... an accountant. i originally tried to keep that edge to his character intact somewhat. he used to be cold, stand off-ish, and incredibly calculated. but then i realized that distinct set of personality traits has already been taken by another character already. so i had to rack my brain again, had to make him a completely different character from before.

from then on, i've completely lost him. i had no idea what to do with him. he'd been this blank slate of a person for a while. he still has a backstory somewhat, coming from rich privileged parents, getting homeschooled and isolated for all of his childhood -- thus resulting in a particular type of social awkwardness where he's able to communicate clearly in professional settings but unable to actually connect intimately with another human being outside of it. that's pretty much the gist of his entire character now. he's quiet but not really shy, articulate but also not really smart, just... pretty much in the gray area of all things.

while i originally considered him to be the most gruff manly character i own, this isn't the case now. now, he's probably the type of guy to get cyberbullied by red pill guys on twitter and called a soyboy or NPC or beta male cuck or something. he unironically refers to himself as a sensitive young man. he'd stare blankly at you when you try to talk to him. there is nothing behind those eyes. he can be used as a human vessel in deltarune and nobody in his life will notice.

there's something both depressing and funny about his existence now.

no moral to this story, only a tragic cautionary tale of live twinkification. bye.

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.

Some Actually Useful Questions to Get to Know Your OC Part Two

↳ What lie do they tell themselves to sleep at night? Seriously. What’s the little piece of denial that keeps them functioning? Do they pretend they don’t care what people think? Tell themselves they’re over that one person? Convinced they’re not the villain of someone else’s story? We all lie to ourselves; your OC is no exception.

↳ What’s their emotional kryptonite? A specific thing that absolutely shatters them, like someone crying? Being ignored? Praise from a parent figure? The sound of an old song? The smell of something nostalgic? Find it and use it against them (lovingly, of course).

↳ When do they feel the most alive? Is it mid-battle, mid-baking, mid-breakup? Does adrenaline light them up, or do they find joy in the quiet, mundane things, like folding laundry while listening to sad girl music? This can reveal a LOT about what drives them.

↳ What would totally ruin their day? A bad haircut? Someone touching their stuff? Or is it something deeper, like being reminded of their failures, or seeing someone else succeed where they couldn’t?

↳ Who do they think they should be? And who are they really? This one’s juicy. Do they think they should be a hero, but keep acting like a villain?

↳ What’s the one thing they’d never admit out loud, even under duress? The shameful thought. The inappropriate desire. The thing they desperately want but don’t think they deserve. DONT FORGET: Characters are built on what they repress.

↳ What are they petty about? Don’t pretend your OC is above this, I mean everyone’s petty about something. Do they hold grudges over stolen pens? Get irrationally jealous of someone’s hair? Still mad about a game of Uno from 2007? Petty makes them fucking real.

↳ How do they act when they think no one’s watching? Do they let their mask slip? Dance around the kitchen? Talk to their cat in baby voice? Cry a little?

↳ What would make them snap? Where is the breaking point? What line has to be crossed for them to finally say “Enough”? Is it injustice? Betrayal? Feeling powerless? You’ll know you’ve found it when it scares you a little (Or a lot).

↳ If they had a theme song, what would it be? No, seriously. The vibe of a character’s soundtrack says a lot. Is it Angsty indie rock? Bubblegum pop masking deep pain? Make a playlist. Your OC will tell you who they are... <3
