Apprentices (three)

A/N I hope you enjoy!!

*Lilly’s POV*

I woke up this morning, half expecting an ambush from one of my five sisters, and being surprised when it doesn't happen. Then I remembered where I was and that I needed to get ready for school, I groaned and rolled over and walked to my dresser, having unpacked last night. I looked out my window, and was greeted by a snowy New York, I cracked a grin, I loved the snow, I pulled on a band t-shirt with a hoodie over it, and black jeans, with my ‘Frankenstein’ boots and walked across the hall. I knocked on Kaelin’s door

“Guess what Ms. Asgardian Princess” there was a groan from the room

“Technically I’m a duchess, but what”

“Look outside” I almost squeaked with excitement. There was an audible gasp and the door flew open

“No! Oh gods no” her face was pale and she looked fearful

“What's wrong, does it not snow in Asgard?”

“Not often, luckily, but this is very bad” she sprinted to the elevator. I shrugged and walked to the kitchen, grabbing an apple I sat down, waiting for everyone else to wake up. A few minutes late a very defeated looking Kaelin walked out of the elevator and walked to her room muttering things under her breath I couldn't understand. She exited her room later and she was wearing a black v-neck with a green leather jacket and gold necklace, a pair of black skinny jeans, and black converse. She scowled

“Who does he think he is, forcing me to go out in” she gestured angrily at the window “that! He knows what could happen” she sat down with force, grabbing a green apple.

“What could happen?” I asked, curious, she gave me a venomous stare

“That is none of your concern”

“Can you not touch ice?” She paled at the mention of it

“I can, I just, don't” she chose each word carefully. An evil plan came into my head, she won't touch ice? I'm going to fix that. About ten minutes later everyone was in the living/kitchen area, eating or waiting, I walked to the freezer and grabbed an ice cube

“What are you going to do with that?” The nerdy kid, Preston, asked. I pointed to Kaelin smiling evilly he raised an eyebrow then shrugged, moving along with making his breakfast, I walked right behind her and dropped the ice cube down her shirt. She shrieked and the weirdest thing happened, the skin that the ice touched turned blue, she looked at me, angered by my actions

“Why?” She asked, sounding scary calm, it was almost more terrifying than yelling

“It's a prank, why did your ski-”

“You want to know?” Anger seeped into her voice “you want to know what I really am? Why I don't touch ice” she looked down for a minute. A loud gasp left my lips when she looked up, her skin was all light blue, with odd markings in her skin, and her eyes were blood red

“This is what I am, I-” her voice broke, ice formed around her feet “I am the monster parents tell their children about.” Her arms were shaking visibly “I’m a monster” she whispered, falling to her knees, tears ran down her face and froze. There is never a good time for Loki to enter a room, but when his daughter is on her knees in front of you because of something you did, you know you are probably about to die. His eyes flicked from her and back to me

“What did you do?” The same scary calm in his voice, I swallowed

“I-I don't-”

“Why?” He hissed

“B-because I-”

“You wanted to see the monsters? Congratulations, you've done it” he turned into the same thing as her once he put a hand on her shoulder. He whispered something in her ear, she nodded and got up, after they left the room was painfully quiet, I hadn't moved an inch.

“What the fuck just happened?” I asked looking around

“You were just an asshole, that's what” the short acrobatic girl said

“I-”

“We need to get to school or we will be late,” Peter interrupted, avoiding my gaze. I felt like shit, what had I done?

She arrive at school halfway through first period, her dad with her, he had a hand on her shoulder protectively, he was glaring daggers at me. The teacher, Mr. Sabb, wouldn't make eye contact with him, even after he had joined the avengers people were still afraid of him. No one could forget what he had done to New York, Mr. Sabb had lost his wife and children in the attack. I sunk down in my seat when he asked who wanted to help her from class to class, and just my luck, we had the same schedule and I was chosen. She sat in the empty desk next to mine, her hand turned the blue color and she traced frost patterns on her desk. One of the boys from the group, Essick, watched her curiously as she draw weird rune-lookings things. Her head snapped up when the teacher began to talk, her hand turning back to its pale color, he went on and on about the math we were going to do that day and finally passed out our worksheets. We quietly worked until the bell rang, Kaelin looked at me

“Where to next, midgardian” she spoke coldly

“Um, just out the building, across the courtyard to the art room” she clenched her teeth. We walked out the doorway, she swallowed hard and took a step into the snow, she fearfully looked at her hands, but they stayed the same. She sighed in relief

“Let’s go then” she said, beginning to walk across the yard, I nodded and followed, suddenly, out of nowhere a few girls came and pushed her into the snow. My eyes widened

“No! Don't do that!”

“So you're siding with the daughter of a man who killed millions?”

“I-” my voice broke when I saw her, in her other form, the girl turned to see what I was looking at. She screamed

“You're a freak!” She said turning and running, Kaelin sighed and fell back into the snow

“Go to your class, leave me here to die” I laughed lightly

“Not happening” I grabbed her hand to help her up. Her eyes widened

“Don’t” frost creeped up my arm and I quickly let go and the frost halted

“Holy shit, that's cold” she looked at me, panicked

“Give me your hand”

“But that's what-”

“Give it, or you will get third degree frostbite” I put my hand in her’s and gasped, her hands glowed and the frost disappeared. I took my hand back, examining it

“How?”

“It's apart of being a frost jotun”

“You mean like, giant?” She nodded glumly

“Then why aren't you-”

“Giant? not all of us are, my father and I are unusually small for our kind” I snorted

“That's funny, you dad it like, 6’ 4’’”

“Yeah” she smiled lightly and got up

“We are so late for class” she smirked

“I’ve got an idea so we won't get in trouble”

“What?”

“What if I,” she paused, like she was thinking about backing out “I go in in this” she gestured to herself “form, no one will reprimand a monster.” I pondered this

“If you want to, but you're not a monster” she rolled her blood red eyes

“I am, let's do this” I walked in first, using my awful acting skills to look fearful, she walked in, frost appearing with each step and a smirk that would give her dad a run for his money. The art teacher, Ms. Hayes, paled,

“Lilly, who is this?” She asked shakily

“Um, this is-” I winced when Kaelin cut in forcefully, because acting

“I am Kaelin Lokidottir, of Asgard and Jotunheim” she said putting her chin high

“J-just take a s-seat” Ms. Hayes said, avoiding eye contact. Kaelin had a creepy grin that made even my skin crawl, and I knew it was an act

“Okay” she went to an empty table and moved the chair, she made herself a throne out of ice and sat in it, I sat across from her. A lot of the students stared in unbelief, how had two students walked in five minutes late, without getting in trouble? They seemed to be asking themselves.

“Dude, that was awesome!” I whispered

“Yes, I guess it was” she looked smug as she leaned back in the ice throne. After art, we headed for the piranha pit that was gym.

Apprentices (two)

A/N Here is part two! i am going to switch pov in each part between the three main characters Athena, Kaelin, and Lilly. Enjoy!!!!

*Kaelin’s POV*

I sat in the lounge with my father, Peter, and Tony waiting for everyone else to return apparently Tony had a “big surprise” for all of us, most of his surprises were stupid and if it wasn’t for Lilly I would’ve already been back at asgard. I liked this midgardian, she had spunk, rare in mortals, I rested my head on my father’s shoulder waiting. Most people wouldn’t think of Loki as a good father, but he was actually pretty good, aside from his trying to take over midgard. I never really like them, but I had missed my dad all those years, Thor was a good uncle, but he acted more like a brother to me. Those years when my father was locked away I saw some drastic changes in him, he began to act more mature and became more introverted, my father and uncle never got along well and still don’t. The only thing that keeps them from killing each other is me, they both know I need them both and i couldn’t live without them, i was happy to be the thing that kept them from murder. Everyone slowly filled in and Tony stood up excitedly

“What I’ve wanted to tell you, for the kids who are new to New York, which is most of you, you are all being enrolled in the same school!” My eyes widened, my face contorted with anger

“Jeg går ikke til en midgardisk skole!” I stood up and teleported to my room in a flash of green light.

“Kaelin” the voice of my father said sternly

“Yes” i said clenching my jaw

“This is for the best-”

“For the best! Really! I can’t stand the midgardians, they are so, so” i searched for a word “incompetent” I finally decided. He nodded

“I couldn’t agree more, but since we will be here for a while you need to learn more about midgard” I rolled my eyes

“Surely the midgardian adults wouldn’t allow a monster into the school” he knit his eyebrows, confused

“What do you mean, princess?”

“Don’t play dumb, you very well know what I- we are.” Recognition flooded his face, he sat down next to me on the bed

“I felt the same way when I was your age, do you know what got me to stop thinking that way?” I glared at him

“What?”

“Your mother” he whispered softly, I knit my eyebrows, he never talked about mother, who had died shortly after i was born. I shifted so I could see him, he was sitting on the opposite side of the bed, I scooted over and sat next to him

“What was mother like?” I asked, the question I never had the courage to ask, until now. He blinked tears out of his eyes

“She was gentle, graceful, and beautiful, like you are, you have her red hair and her smile” it was my turn to blink tears from my eyes, I hugged my father, neither of us were big on physical contact, but now seemed like the right time

“She would be so proud of you, princess” i smiled through the tears burying my face in his shirt

“Do i still have to go to the midgardian school?” he sighed

“Yes, but remember, that one girl you liked? That you became friends with” i nodded “you will be going to the same school as her, princess”

“Maybe it won’t be too bad.” I sat back a bit and wiped away my tears “i’m sorry father”

“It’s okay, princess, you’ve taken this news much better than i would’ve” I laughed

“You’re right, if it was you someone would be in the medical bay” he smiled and nodded. He took my hand

“Are you ready to go back out?”

“Do i have to? Can’t i just wait until dinner?” he sighed again

“Of course”

Dinner time rolled around and so i changed, since I changed into sweatpants and a sweatshirt earlier, I put on a grey shirt that had a snake on it, next to the snake it said ‘Loki made me do it.’ I had a lot of Loki themed clothes, both my father and I found it humorous for me to wear them, i threw on a pair of black leggings and walked outside, not bothering with shoes. I went up the elevator to the adults floor, where we would all eat if we ate together and took my seat next to my father

“The snake finally leaves its nest” Tony said sarcastically

“This snake may come to strike, Anthony” i said with venom, he looked taken aback at the use of his given name

“Rolig ned Kaelin” Loki said looking at me sternly

“Jeg er rolig” i muttered, crossing my arms, we often spoke to each other in norwegian, it was calming and reminded us both of home.

“Could you both please speak in english?” Tony said exasperated

“No” we both replied at the same time

“You will not get anything from my brother and niece, brother Anthony, i have been trying all their lives” Thor said from across the table. Pepper came in, carrying the last of the food, we passed it around and began to eat, Athena looked very uncomfortable, I wondered why. We all made small talk, once i finished eating i got up and left, like i normally did, going to my room and laying down on the bed. I grabbed my phone and put my headphones in, one of the only things I liked about midgard was its music, i chose the song ‘Monster’ by imagine dragons, I saw myself in this song as it played i smiled to myself. I looked at my hand and changed into my true form, as a frost jotun, my skin turned blue and my eyes blood red, my skin was cold, no freezing, frost crept onto the comforter beneath me. Suddenly the door opened, i yelped in surprise and hid on the other side of the bed

“W-who is it?”

“Lilly, are you okay? I didn’t mean to scare you” my breathing steadied and I turned back to my other self then stood up. She looked at me confused

“I’m fine, what did you need?”

“I was just bored, they said we had a few hours until curfew, when we have to get in bed, so I wanted to see you” she looked at my bed “Why is your bed covered in frost?” I clenched my jaw, knot wanting to tell her the truth

“Don’t worry about it, mortal” i spoke the last word with venom. She looked at me, angered by my words

“Mortal? You say that as if you aren’t”

“I’m not” i replied matter-of-factly “I am asgardian” she knitted her eyebrows

“Does that make you a goddess? Or am I understanding this wrong” i flinched at the word goddess, I would’ve been, had my father truly been a god as everyone else believed. I swallowed thinking of the right response, lying was easy for me, given my father being the ‘god’ of lies

“Sort of, it’s difficult to explain” she rolled her eyes

“So you aren’t a goddess and you’re afraid to admit it”

“What?! I am insulted you would even think that” I narrowed my eyes, and she raised an eyebrow

“Then you are a goddess.” I groaned

“Just leave me be” I wanted to flop down onto the bed, but i couldn’t risk accidentally turning back at the touch of ice. She turned and left, then i was able to flop down onto my bed, face first burying my face in the pillow

“Dumme dødelige” i felt myself turning back to my jotun form

“I agree” said a voice, i screamed and fell again

“hvem er der?” i shouted, panicked

“Princess, it’s me, calm down” i let out a sigh of relief, it was my father

“Gods, you scared the dritt out of me” he laughed lightly

“And apparently into your jotun form” i winced

“Yeah” i looked down

“It’s who you are, don’t be ashamed”

“You’re one to talk” he smiled

“I didn’t say all the time” i rolled my eyes then sat back down on the bed

“Whats up?” I asked looking at his face

“Just wanted to remind you to get a good night's sleep”

“Why?” i asked, confused

“Because tomorrow is your first day at the Midtown school of Science and Technology” i groaned and rolled over

“drepe meg nå.” He laughed

“No, i don’t think i will” i rolled over and glared at him

“Skru deg du” he chuckled

“Goodnight princess”

“Night dad”

I entered Stark tower, being escorted by Bucky, who had just found me and asked me to join the group, I had nothing else to do with my life so i said yes. We went up the elevator and entered a lounge of sorts. A few other kids and the avengers who chose them were already there. Steve Rogers and a mean looking girl with bright pink hair, she was talking to a redhead who was seated next to Loki. The redhead looked similar to Loki in a few ways, she looked bored, just like Loki. Tony Stark was sitting as far away from the other two as possible with a boy with brownish blonde hair and dark brown eyes. Bucky steered me towards Steve and sat down next to him, I followed what the others were doing and sat next to Bucky, the two girls looked at me questioningly then went back to their conversation. The redhead had green eyes that had a strange look in them, i soon realized it to be insanity. The pink haired girl looked at me and motioned for me to go over to her, I looked to Bucky who nodded. I got up and sat next to the pink haired girl who spoke first

“I’m Lilly Weber and this is Kaelin Lokidottir” she said

“I’m Athena Reid” the redhead, Kaelin, began cracking every single knuckle in her hand, Loki looked at her, irritated

“Stopp det, det er dårlig til hendene dine” he said, in Norwegian? She rolled her eyes

“fin far” then she looked at us and mouthed my dad is so irritating sometimes my eyes widened

“Dad?” i asked wondering if I had understood incorrectly, she nodded

“Loki is my father, he and my uncle, Thor, raised me after my mother left”

“Wow”

“Speak of the devil” Lilly said as Thor and a girl about our age walked in, she was short and very skinny, she had curly blonde hair and startling grey eyes. Kaelin smiled and got up to greet her uncle, she spoke to the girl who came to sit with us

“This is Morgan John” she sat down next to Lilly, she and I introduced ourselves. I looked at the boy sitting next to Tony, he looked really bored

“What about him?” i asked tilting my head in his direction

“Oh, Peter? What about him?” Kaelin said, looking mildly disinterested

“Are we going to talk to him or let him sit alone?”

“You can invite him if you want” Lilly said, “I go to school with him, he’s a bit of a nerd.” I looked at him, to see him looking back at me, i waved him over, he hesitantly got up and walked over, he sat down in between Lilly and I

“Hey Lilly” he said, nervously

“Hello Parker” she said, stifling a giggle. Peter knit his eyebrows

“What’s funny?”

“Nothing” then she busted out laughing and so did Kaelin

“du magst ihn!” Kaelin shouted holding her sides

“Nein! Ja? könnte sein” Lilly said blushing

“What’s with the multiple languages?” i asked

“I speak five languages” Kaelin says “Norwegian being my first, then in order english, german, spanish, and french”

“I grew up in Germany” Lilly stated. Both Bucky and Steve shifted uncomfortably at the mentions of germany, Kaelin rolled her eyes at this

“De er dumme” she said, Loki snorted then nodded in agreement.

“What did you just say?” Peter asked

“Now why would I say that, it defeats the purpose of speaking in a different language” she said with a smirk. We made small talk for about 15 to 20 minutes as the rest of the group arrived, learning some pretty cool things about my new friends, they refused to speak about what they could do, because it was a surprise for later on. Eventually all 22 people were there so Tony guided us all down to a training room, where we would show everyone else our abilities, they had Kaelin go first since she had been living there. She pulled off the jacket she was wearing to reveal an emerald colored tank top, her arms were covered in strange symbols, she faced a target and her eyes began to glow a greenish color. A symbol on her arm glowed brightly (rune of ullr, look it up, it wouldn’t let me write it in) a yew bow appeared in her hands, she drew it back and hit a perfect bulls-eye, she dropped the bow and it disappeared along with the symbol on her arm. She flicked her wrist and her hand caught a green flame she threw it at the target which caught fire and burned within two seconds. She ran her hand through her hair and she glowed gold for a split second and vest of sorts appeared on her with two long knives and a lot of throwing knives. She spun facing us and planted two of the throwing knives about five inches from Tony’s face, she smiled sweetly and bowed, her knives disappeared. She walked back to stand with us grabbing her jacket on the way and shrugging it on, I forgot how to work my jaw, my eyes wide with surprise. Loki smiled proudly and put his arm around her shoulders and looked to Tony boastingly as if he was thinking that’s right, my daughter could have just killed you, isn’t that awesome! Tony cleared his throat

“Peter, you’re up”

“Mr. Stark I-”

“Go Peter” he said forcefully, Peter looked down

“Yes Mr. Stark” he walked up to the wall, and climbed up it

“You’re Spiderman!?” Lilly half-shouted “you of all people” she groaned. Peter simply nodded and flipped down, he walked back to Tony

“Lilly” Steve said, she looked at him and he nodded. She went to a table covered in guns, chose a pistol and fired ten rounds, hitting the bullseye of ten different targets, she then took apart and put back together a large rifle in a few seconds then propped herself up at the table perfectly hitting the silhouette target in the head, chest, and… crotch? She stood back up, flipping her pink hair into her face and walked to Kaelin, barely containing laughs. They had everyone take turns, Morgan could travel through time, Marissa was an acrobat, Connor could walk through solid objects, Essick had super speed, Jacob had telekinesis, Preston was an alchemist, and Anastasia could heal her own and other people's wounds by touching them. Finally it was my turn, i was afraid of what their reactions might be, after seeing their powers mine seemed so small and stupid. I walked to the middle of the room, where they all could see me and became invisible there were a few gasps, which i took to be good, I touched a table and it disappeared too I reappeared keeping my hand on the table and it was still gone. When i lifted my hand it reappeared, I got a few approving nods and polite clapping, I didn’t put on as much of a show as Kaelin or Lilly but i felt like i did okay.

“Great job Athena” Bucky whispered to me as we headed for the elevators, we split into two groups and headed up a few floors

“This floor will be for you all, right here is the lounge” Tony pointed down the hall “And over there is the kitchen, and off to the left is boys bedrooms, and the right is girls your mentors will take you to your rooms.” Bucky walked me down the hall, past a door painted black with green symbols on it

“Whose room is that?” he followed my gaze

“That’s Kaelin’s, it’s hers for when she visits from Asgard”

“She lives in Asgard!” He nodded in reply

“She is an asgardian so why wouldn’t she”

“I have so many questions” I had always liked norse mythology, so meeting people from Asgard was amazing. My room was the last one on the hallway, it was very simple, white walls, brown wood desk and dresser, and the bed had grey sheets

“You will be able to get your room re-painted and decorated tomorrow” Bucky said seeing my expression. I nodded looking around

“I think I’m going to like it here”
