I have a fic I started writing with a friend once where Yonji is in the East Blue during Romance Dawn (perhaps looking for Sanji) and his raid suit malfunctions and he falls out of the sky and bonks his head on a rock

Funny little amnesia Yonji AU where Luffy pulls him out of the water onto his little dinghy and he ends up being the first member of the Straw Hats :)

My favorite bits of it include him not remembering his name and ending up with a whole bunch of nicknames instead (Onion, Parrot, etc)

He *might* have ended up pretty freaked out by the mechanical arms, until Luffy goes "oh hey they're like mine!"

And after they visit skypiea Usopp starts weaving this tale of him being a prince from a traveling kingdom in the clouds who fell one day, Yon's a big fan of that story :)

I just wanted to ramble we haven't worked on it in ages but I think you'd like it :)

THIS IS ADORABLEEEEEEEE!!! luffy cant resist bringing a green haired guy into his crew.. i can only imagine the drama if they still ended up going to the baratie like normal timeline 😭

The food nicknames are so cute too… i decided for my fic luffy calls yonji “pepper guy”/“pepper head” cuz when his hair is spiked back it looks like a jalapeño and when he has it down later on its middle parted and looks like a bell pepper LOL i like that we’re on the same wavelength there

your fic idea is nice. but, "physical pain" is something they have always been able to feel, so they know what pain is. you can see literally in the manga that they can feel pain (eg reiju after she got shot). it's jsut not very often they feel that becuase you need to hit them super duper hard for them to damage their iron skin, but it does happen. unless by pain you mean emotional pain.

Sure, but theres a notable difference between “getting absolutely blasted and recoiling” and “i stubbed my toe and it fucking hurts wtf” that fic!yonji experiences.

This is just headcanon, but I personally imagine theres a dulling of nerve endings alongside the hardened skin, meaning they wouldnt be distracted by pain while fighting but they also wouldnt really feel physical sensations all that good either. Just seems like the more cruel option to me for judge to take away their ability to feel a cool breeze on their faces or other equally cliche things in order to make them more effective fighters. Theres a scene in the fic where yonji pats chopper’s head and is like “wtf so soft” as a small acknowledgement of this. Again thats just my headcanon tho 🫶

So yeah, they feel pain in very extreme situations but definitely not a normal human range of pain which is the reason it would be scary to yonji in the fic

So the thing I’m writing is the ol “what if the vinsmokes had emotions” fic but with a small spin on it (the spin is yonji focus because i like him a normal amount).

It takes place sometime between punk hazard and dressrosa (timeline is kinda wack but whatever. Canon divergence). The events of whole cake have not even begun to transpire at this point when Sanji suddenly has to deal with a very confused and scared yonji crashing onto the sunny. Turns out …. something happened to his augmentations and he has started to experience fear and pain. Horrifying to someone who spent 21 years of their life without that!

The straw hats are understandably suspicious but sanji, noticing something is VERY different about the way yonji carries himself compared to when they were kids, hesitantly agrees to not kick him into next tuesday. So from there, he kinda just. Hangs out on the sunny and learns to be human from the straw hats.

Im really trying to hone in on the nature vs nurture aspect. Its something i really love in stories (looks directly at the dq brothers). Like how much of yonji’s personality is a result of his augmentations and how much of it is years of judge’s influence? How easily would he be able to heal from those though patterns, if its possible at all? Would he even want to? He has the capacity to feel a full range of emotions but it would be hard for him to really process what any of it means

And on sanji’s side, the situation is unbelievably complicated, and hes constantly on edge since at this point he hadnt had a chance to work through his unresolved trauma. Hes still at the “my childhood is never gonna affect me again” stage of his life so not only does he have to deal with the vulnerability of revealing his past to his crewmates when he really didnt want to, he also has to have his BROTHER on the ship. Not great for his mental health but he doesnt have it in his heart to turn yonji away when he came to him distressed.

Because this fic is LONG i wanna give yonji time to have a conversation with most of the straw hats. I have some ideas for their dynamics that im really enjoying writing so far :) specifically luffy, robin, franky, and zoro. Also caesar 💀 because he’s here at this point in the timeline and knows his dad so i imagine hed have a bit to say

Im like nowhere done the first chapter but when its finished im 100% posting it on this blog so you guys can read it :D i hope everyone likes it 👉👈 im having fun with it
