“Never in my mind did I think the princess would be this gorgeous,” Oikawa purrs, brown eyes never leaving yours as he bends down and kisses the back of your hands with a touch so light, you could have imagined it.
He straightens, “My name is Oikawa Tooru, Princess. It is a pleasure to meet you”
You bow, “It is a pleasure to meet you as well”
You shift nervously on your feet when Oikawa’s grin grows almost wider. Your grandmother doesn’t bother to hide her annoyance, signaling to Akira discreetly. Akira immediately steps in front of you, back towards Oikawa.
“Princess, if you will follow me, I shall take you to meet your attendant”
You let Akira guide you down the hallways, away from the hungry stare of Oikawa and the man standing next to him. Both of them wear matching smiles, their eyes looking for any crack in your armor.
Akira bends slightly, his voice a whisper in your ears.
"Do not let your guard down in front of them, ever”
x.
Your grandmother clears her throat. “I would appreciate it if you would stop staring at my granddaughter like a piece of meat”
Neither man looked embarrassed. The man next to Oikawa bows to the Queen, his smile never fading. Your grandmother looks less than impressed, brown eyes staring at Oikawa and then back down to the man still bowing.
“If you should bow any longer, you’ll find yourself kissing the floor”
With strained laughter, they straighten. Oikawa stays rooted to his spot, his mouth dry as he replays the moment you met him.
If he’s being honest with himself, he wasn’t quite sure of what he was expecting. Oikawa was prepared for wide eyes, blown open with curiosity and the fluster that accompanied most people when they received a kiss from him. He was prepared for a condescending glance, with soft lips curling into disgust as his lips touch the bank of your hand.
He wasn’t quite sure how to react to the way you barely registered his presence, full lips parted only slightly in surprise when Oikawa had let your hand rest against his. You showed no signs of embarrassment, only barely concealed confusion at the awkward stretch of silence when no one moved after greetings had been exchanged.
His uncle clears his throat, fixing his black blazer, “She seems… charming, Your Majesty”. The sarcastic smile that adorned his lips said something else entirely. “It will be quite a show to watch your granddaughter become the next ruler of Johsai”
The blood in Oikawa’s veins ran cold at how openly his uncle bore his cards. Your grandmother stiffens, brown eyes hardening at the hidden meaning in his words. His uncle seems even more pleased at the reaction. “If I may do anything to ease the princess’s transition, do let me know. In fact-”
A thick arm finds itself around Oikawa’s shoulders, surprising the younger man. “Why don’t you let my dear nephew tutor her in dance, or history lessons. Whatever she needs to learn, I’m more than confident that my boy here can do it all.” His uncle smiles, turning to face Oikawa. “Isn’t that right?”
You are the true heir to the throne
Oikawa bends at the waist so he does not have to see the suspicion in the Queen’s eyes. “If you would have me,” Oikawa whispers, unable to get rid of the metallic taste in his mouth as the sight of your face replays in his mind.
“If you would have me, I would be honored to be our future princess’s tutor”
We will not let some commoner take your rightful place as ruler
x.
Your attendant is a young girl with blonde hair, who somehow seemed more nervous than you were to be in the castle. At the sight of you appearing down the hall with Akira, she had immediately jumped to her feet, rocking back and forth on the balls of her feet as the pair of you grew closer.
“My Highness- Oh, I mean Your Highness-” She stutters nervously, a bright red blush spreading across her cheeks as you giggle at her flusteredness, “I’m so pleased to finally meet you!”
Akira smiles at her eagerness, silencing your attendant with a raised hand. “Princess,” He gestures for you to step forward, “Meet Hitoka Yachi. She will be here to take care of any and all your needs during your stay at the palace.”
You nod, smiling brightly, “Yachi, it’s so nice to meet you. I hope we get along well”.
From the corner of your eye, you can see Akira nodding his approval at your greeting.
“I shall let the two of you get acquainted. Yachi, if you could please take Your Highness to her room and get her settled."
Akira bows and takes his leave, leaving you in Yachi’s care. You flex your palms, hoping the tension you feel will disperse while Yachi awaits your instructions. With an encouraging smile, you gesture for her to lead the way.

I called for you but you did not come // t. kuroo

VII: addicted to the desperation
Tumblr media
The princess looks out of place in the middle of the countryside, with her silk kimono and the gold decorations that adorn her hair and ears. She slides off her horse with help from one of her servants, and Kuroo immediately bows.
Her sharp gray eyes do not miss the small camp set further behind him, across the hill. Kuroo keeps his head down and hopes his cat charm does not fall out from under his sleeve.
“You may stand”
He straightens and she takes a step forward, black slippers making clouds of dust billow behind her. Kuroo swallows, golden eyes never straying from her gray ones.
“My father,” she begins, and Kuroo grips the hilt of his sword, “My father has found out about the rebellion”
Kuroo freezes. The Princess scans his face, before continuing on. “He plans to make a move to stop the rebellion within three days' time. It will be hard for me to convince him to spare your life, should he find out you were working with them”
“Kuroo,” Your eyes are bright, hands full of fresh fruit, “Do you want to eat this with me?”
The Princess’s face has been carefully crafted into a poker face. “He currently suspects you with working with the rebels, although he is unable to confirm it”
“Kuroo, stop trying to bother Kenma!” Your laugh is sweeter than the birds that sing in the trees, sunshine filtering through the leaves.
Kuroo holds his breath, unable to bring himself to meet the princess’s gaze. She continues on, her sharp gray eyes watching the way his knuckles grow whiter with every minute that passes, “He has asked me for my opinion, but I have not provided one, under the guise of needing some time to think.”
“I see,” Kuroo’s voice is barely but a whisper, “And what is it that you have concluded?”
“I have concluded that this group of bandits & misfits have become something special to you”
He swallows, unsure of what to say or do.
The Princess continues on, taking his silence as a cue to continue speaking, “However, I have a proposition for you. I will do my best to mislead my father and keep your good graces with him, as well as give the commoners a chance to run. In return-“
Kuroo thinks his lungs may have just collapsed, the world dizzy under his feet as the Princess’s unforgiving gray eyes bore into his soul.
“We must get married”
x.
Kuroo thinks he may have found heaven and it came in the form of your lips (Like he’s mentioned before, he’s a complete and total romantic).
“Five more minutes,” He pleads with you, arms refusing to go from your waist, “Just five and I promise I will let you go without another hitch in the road.
You snort, struggling to get his arms away from you, although your efforts were in vain. Damn athletes, you were seriously contemplating beginning to work out after hanging out with Kuroo so much. “Yeah right, you’ve been saying that for the past 10 minutes. Kuroo, let go or you’re going to be late for practice!”
“I’m the team captain, practice doesn’t start until I walk in”
“You mean until Coach Nekotama walks in,” You correct him before admitting your defeat, sinking back down onto the bench and Kuroo grins wildly. Kenma, on the other side of Kuroo, merely rolls his eyes at the way Kuroo visibly perked up when you resigned before saving his game and putting it away.
“I’m going to practice,” He announces, slinging his bag onto his shoulder. He takes a few steps forward before glancing back over his shoulder, piercing eyes staring Kuroo down, “I’ll be sure to tell Coach the reason why you could not be on time for practice was because you were too busy seducing a girl. Maybe he’ll make you do suicides until you puke, and [name] can watch and laugh at you”.
Kuroo blanches at Kenma’s threat, he knew all too well Kenma wasn’t joking. He scrambles to get up, hastily throwing his stuff into his bag before pressing his lips onto yours, a chaste goodbye and a promise to text you as soon as practice ends whispered against your lips before he rushes over to Kenma’s side.
You watch their figures disappear into thee gymnasium before bringing your fingers up towards your lips, gently tracing over them.
You twisted your lips, reminiscing over Kenma’s words. Seducing a girl? As though you were just another girl Kuroo had set his sights on? Never mind the fact that you and Kuroo had never quite actually spoken about what the confession had meant for your relationship, if you could even call it that.
As though to spur your anxious thoughts even more, Hime seemingly appears out of nowhere.
“You know, only crazy stalkers sit by the gymnasium when the volleyball practice starts. I would have never taken you for one of them!”
Your skin prickles at the sound of her sickeningly sweet voice. You clear your throat, matching the exaggerated polite smile on her face.
“I suppose you would know, perhaps we’re much more alike than I’d like to admit”
She narrows her eyes, her smile being replaced with a scowl. You stand, brushing your skirt free from any dust.
“It was nice seeing you again. Have fun with your stalker activities, I’m quite sure Kuroo would love to have another reason for you to stay as far away from him as possible.” You swing your bag over your shoulder, letting your shoes billow up clouds of dust in your wake. You can’t help but feel satisfied at the thought of Hime’s frustrated expression, but the smile that graces your face slides off within seconds, instead being replaced with something that feels heavy in the pit of your stomach when Hime yells something behind you.
“Don’t go thinking you’re special just because you kissed Kuroo. He hasn’t made you his girlfriend, so he’s still single!”

“My father,” she begins, and Kuroo grips the hilt of his sword, “My father has found out about the rebellion”

into the light with nowhere to hide // zhongli
he wishes to feel the fire once more
genre: angst, romance
Tumblr media
The sky was a deep blue when he first met you, with a richness that seems to almost swallow him if he stares into it long enough. Guizhong tells him you control the seasons, and he does not doubt it because when has Guizhong ever lied to him?
“It’s nice to meet you!” Your hand is warm like the summer sun, hair constantly fluttering behind you like the spring breeze rushing past, ‘i hope we get along well, Morax”
He nods, agreeing with you quietly. Your hand is quite cold, like winter’s first frost. You present him with another smile, one that he finds will plague his mind in the months to come, and return your attention to Guizhong.
Zhongli notes his cheeks feel abnormally warm. He pretends he does not notice and moves to stand by your side.
x.
There must be a problem with him- Zhongli is sure of it. His heart beats too fast, and his palms are sweating, something he has only ever begun to experience ever since he has met you.
“There must be something wrong with me,” He tells Guizhong, “I am burning up inside whenever I see [name]”
Guizhong laughs, and tucks a Glaze Lily behind her ear. Zhongli watches her hands run across the rim of every petal as he continues. “I cannot think when we are near, my cheeks turn red and there is a fire in my veins whenever we touch’
Zhongli halts suddenly, causing Guizhong to look up from her miniature bouquet, “Has she placed a curse on me?”
A pause. Zhongli’s expression carries nothing but sincerity and confusion and Guizhong laughs so hard, the flowers she picked falls onto the floor in bunches. He scrunches his nose- this was nothing funny, so really, why is she laughing?
She wipes a tear away from her eye, struggling to stifle her laughter, “Do you truly believe [name] would have done such a thing? She loves being around you, I should hardly believe she’d do such a thing”
“Then why do I feel this way?” Zhongli presses on, and Guizhong wonders just how dense the Geo Archon can be, “I cannot bear to be apart from her, my heart breaks and yearns for her, and yet when we are together, my heart beats much too fast, and I say things I never say”
Guizhong sighs, finally facing Zhongli fully, hands on her hips. “Have you ever considered you might like her? Be interested in her?’
It’s like he’s stopped working. Guizhong watches his face contort, expressions of all kinds molding his face until he’s simply just standing there. She waits for a moment before deciding to stick some Glaze Lilies in his hair and wonders just how many she can get onto him before he gets shocked out of his reverie.
Zhongli stands still, and thinks about the smell of autumn leaves that cling to your skin, the sound of your laughter he has memorized and decides to himself it would not be so bad to be in love with you after all.
x.
You remove a petal from Zhongli’s hair, letting it flutter away in the wind. “Your face is really red,” you tell him, and he knows, he can feel the burning sensation on his cheek, “You okay?”
“No,” Zhongli shakes his head, “I am burning”
You shift so you’re facing him fully, eyes glittering with amusement. “Burning?”
“Yes,” Zhongli nods, “I am burning up’”
Your lips are curved into a smile, hands lifting, and Zhongli is only slightly startled when you rest them on his cheeks, cradling his face. Your hands are cool, like the winter air that makes you shiver down to your toes, but Zhongli finds himself growing warmer with every moment you let your hands linger on his skin.
“How about now?”
No, Zhongli thinks to himself, I think it’s gotten worse, yet he cannot find it in himself to let you go just yet. He leans into your touch, hands reaching up to encircle your wrist, his thumb slipping underneath the jade bracelet adorning your wrists and lets the tips of his thumb rest on the base of your palm.
‘It’s the most curious thing,” Zhongli begins, and you raise your eyebrows as you wait for him to continue.
“I find myself burning up the most whenever I am near you,” Zhongli admits, “My chest burns when we are together, but it only ever gets worse when you are not around. When you do not touch me, my skin is hot to the touch, and when you do, it seems as though there is a spark that will not go out long after we have parted”
He hesitates, bringing himself closer towards you. His hands never let go of your wrists, while his eyes desperately searched for an answer in yours. You smile, bright like the sun and he thinks there is no sight that could ever compare.
“I think I can help,” You murmur, and then your lips are on his, soft like the clouds and sweeter than honey, and Zhongli can think of nothing but the sparks behind his eyelids, the lava burning his veins and soft, soft, soft, how can one’s lips be so sweet?
When you begin to pull away, he chases after your lips, all too intent on keeping yours pressed onto his.
“Well?” You ask as though you cannot find the answer written so plainly on his face, “Still burning up?”
“Yes,” He leans forwards to capture your lips once more, “But as long as I am with you, I do not mind being set on fire”
x.
He wishes the war would just be over already. Zhongli has thought this many times, when he sees the bodies of his comrades lying across the ground, lifeless eyes gazing upon him, when he sees the slight quiver in your lip as the battles rage on (I’m so tired of this war, Zhongli), when Guizhong’s hand was cold and she wouldn’t open her eyes no matter how many times he called her name, but he has never thought about it harder than right at this moment.
You were unlucky- that’s all it was.
“This isn’t goodbye,” Your thumb rests on his lips before you slide your hand up and let your fingers caress the side of his face. Little trails of dirt leave a path on his skin in your finger’s wake. You smile, “it’s just… see you later,”
His hand finds itself wrapping around your wrist, thumb tucking underneath the smooth stone of your bracelet and resting just below the pad of your palm.
“Yes,” You repeat it, as though to try and convince yourself this time, “This is just ‘see you later’”
The sky burns a red that would forever be seared into his memory, while the vibrancy of your skin dulls slowly. What good is a god that cannot prevent the harm of his loved ones? Zhongli does not wish to find out, but fate is cruel in ways he cannot explain.
“See you later Zhongli,” You take a shuddering breath, chest heaving with the exertion while Zhongli holds his own, every movement of his body stilling.
Your hand slips from his jaw, landing gently onto the ground.
The sky turns dark, the color of night swallowing all features of your still body. Zhongli holds your rapidly cooling body in his hands and wonders if he would ever feel the fire in his veins light him up again.
x.
“Hi,” You wave politely, “It’s nice to meet you Zhongli, I have heard so much about you from Childe”
It’s you, except it’s not you- no, you have gone somewhere Zhongli cannot reach, but it’s you and he is sure of it. There is no mistaking the glitter in your eyes, the brightness of your smile and the warmth of your laughter. It’s like you had never gone, as if he never lost you, as if if if-
His cheeks are abnormally warm, his ears hot to the touch. Childe looks amused at the sight, eagerly pointing out the cherry hue on Zhongli’s cheeks. You look vaguely amused, the corners of your lips lifting upwards, and Zhongli feels like the world is spinning, spinning, spinning under his feet.
Zhongli clears his throat, “Yes, It’s nice to meet you too. Childe, unfortunately, has never mentioned you to me.”
You raise your eyebrow, pivoting towards your boyfriend who was sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck. ‘Oh?”
Childe’s apologies are laced with shame, and you bite back with no real threat, stars laced in between your teeth. Zhongli inhales deeply, desperately trying to calm the stuttering of his heart, the fire in his veins and-
Oh.
Oh.
Zhongli is burning, he is sure of it.
When would he feel the fire in his veins again?
It’s not you, it can’t be you- you’re somewhere Zhongli cannot find, but what else could be the cause of the fire in his chest? Would the universe, no- would you be so cruel as to leave him lonely for so long only to come back in the arms of another?
He wants to say no, that you are kind like the way the spring air is after a long winter, but he doesn’t quite know anymore.
Childe says something, waving his hand in front of Zhongli’s face, leaving him to stare blankly at the both of you.
“Are you sick?” Your voice is overlapping with another one he hasn’t heard in a long time, “You’re really red.”
You take a step forward, letting Childe’s hand fall from your waist and press your hands onto Zhongli’s cheeks. They’re cold, like winter’s bite and the fire in his veins are alight once more. Is it even you anymore? Zhongli cannot find his voice, caught in his throat as you stand too close to him. Your eyebrows furrow, as you tilt his head slightly downwards to meet your gaze better, “You’re really warm, are you okaty?”
Zhongli wishes he couldn’t see you so clearly, too aware of the delicate features that matched perfectly with his memories of what he knew.
You lift a hand to place on his forehead, but Zhongli is quick, hands snatching your wrist back to their original spot on his cheeks. You raise an eyebrow but Zhongli says nothing, only closing his eyes to enjoy the fireworks that dance in his heart.
“No,” He answers with a smile on his face, “I am burning again”
