#CopyThat: How to Get Janelle Monáe’s Red Lips and Cat Eye Look
yahoo
In a sea of celebrities, we can always spot Janelle Monáe by her bright red lips and black-and-white uniform. Her ability to remain true to this aesthetic while reimagining her signature style in the most subtle ways is proof that the singer is a modern-day icon.
We were absolutely blown away by her look at the 2016 BET Awards, which she amplified with neutral smoky eyes and bold eyebrows. So we turned to makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes for tips and tricks to getting Monáe’s red carpet beauty look. Watch the video above and keep reading below to find out exactly how to copy the “Electric Lady.”
Start with a smooth and even complexion by applying a matte foundation or powder. Next, use a small flat brush to place brown cream eye shadow like Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow onto lids. Layer a powder shadow over the cream (Hughes used the shade Salsa from the Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette). To really make eyes pop, create a wing on the upper lash line with black liner (try Eyeko Black Magic Liquid Eyeliner) and apply mascara (MAC Upward Lash) to top and bottom lashes.
For statement brows just like Monáe’s, you’ll want to use a brow tint such as Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows. Take your time brushing the pigment through for an even and defined finish.
Now, on to lips! Outline and fill in your mouth with a red lip liner (we really like Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Kiss n’ Tell). This gives your lipstick something to adhere to and helps the color last longer. Apply a matte red lipstick (CoverGirl Queen Collection Lip Color in See Red) on top and you’re all done!

This Fishtail Nail Art Is Way Easier Than Braiding
Now that fall is here, we are reimagining cool ways to use the rich blue, deep plum and steely gray polish colors we tend to gravitate to at this time of year. And what better way to weave together these autumnal nail shades than with fishtail nail art? Using the Tokyo-inspired nail polishes from the brand's fall 2016 collection, Essie celebrity manicurist Michelle Saunders visualized textures and color combos to create this intricate design. "The tones that are braided together work really well with anything you wear, especially cozy sweaters. Plus fishtail braids are still popular this fall," she says. Creating crisp, clean lines can be tricky. Saunders has two techniques she recommends to help you nail it. One, try angling the Essie polish brush horizontally when painting on the lines. "While overlapping the lines to create the fishtail, just follow the previous lines," says Saunders. Or, use a striping brush to create the beginning of the straight line, then fill in the rest with the Essie polish brush. If you're wondering how to prevent your nail polish colors from streaking or blurring when using multiple shades, the pro strongly suggests letting each layer dry in between polishing. Patience is a must! Saunders says, "For example, don't complete the design on each nail. Instead, starting with your left pinky, paint each step nail by nail so by the time you come around to the right thumb, the area where you started (left pinky) should be dry enough to begin the next step." Yahoo Beauty has the exclusive details on this fabulous fall mani. Scroll through for step-by-step instructions. Then visit Essie.com for more nail art inspiration! Let’s keep in touch! Best Celebrity Beauty Looks of the Week: Amy Adams's Shampoo-Commercialworthy Hair and More
Will a hair-care brand give Amy Adams a contract, already? While attending a gala at the 60th BFI London Film Festival, the Nocturnal Animals actress's hair couldn't have been more perfect. With her thick, red locks cascading down a black velvet gown, Adams reminded us of Hollywood's golden age film stars, such as Rita Hayworth and Maureen O'Hara. The face-framing layers near her cheekbones had just enough bend, and each curl had just enough volume. If only our at-home blowouts looked this impeccable. Take a look at Adams's gorgeous red hair, and see which other celeb beauty looks we're crushing on this week. Let’s keep in touch! Follow Yahoo Beauty on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.

Too Tired to Wash Your Face? Here Is the Perfect Nighttime Cleanser for You
Yahoo Beauty would like to introduce you to “The New-New,” a column by Beauty Director Dana Oliver on the newest products, tools and treatments that she’d happily spend her hard-earned money on.
I would be lying if I said I’ve never gone to bed without washing my face. Long commutes to work, busy office hours and nights spent binge-watching my favorite TV shows have resulted in me falling asleep on the couch while wearing makeup … and whatever dirt that’s still stuck to me from the day.
As a beauty expert, I am very aware of the downside of not giving my skin a proper cleansing before hitting the sheets, the primetime for skin cell regeneration. I put my faith in correcting my skin-care mistake and dull, tired complexion — flaws and all —  with the new Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil.
This new addition to the brand’s Midnight Recovery line is an oil cleanser packed with the same botanical ingredients (squalene, evening primrose and lavender oils) used in the Concentrate serum, which closeted beauty junkie Viola Davis happens to be a fan of. The label reads “for all skin types,” but in my past experience with cleansing oils, I find that many strip away all the good oils from my face and leave me drier than ever.
Kiehl’s says that its potent formulation does just the opposite — it breaks down makeup and unclogs pores to cleanse and nourish skin. And yes, this stuff does just that!
For the past two weeks, I’ve stuck to a nighttime skin-care routine that consisted of washing my face with the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil. It really only takes three to four pumps of the product to coat my entire face, neck and ears. I massage it into my skin, using firm upward movements to help stimulate blood flow. Not to mention — the smell of lavender and evening primrose oils assist with relaxation. The oil immediately emulsifies into a milky consistency when it’s rinsed off with lukewarm water.
Every night, my skin started to feel softer to the touch, and my boyfriend even complimented me, saying, “Your skin looks brighter!” While I did apply aloe vera gel as a moisturizer right after cleansing, my skin no longer felt taut or appeared lackluster.
It’s rare that I swipe on liquid eyeliner, but when I did wear a cat eye with lots of mascara, I noticed how easily the oil broke down the black pigment without causing irritation or redness. It also melts away medium-to-full coverage foundation seamlessly.
I would recommend this cleansing oil to anyone considering switching up their face-washing regimen, especially to those who wear makeup and want to cut down on the amount of time spent in the bathroom taking it off. It saved me loads of time, which means I didn’t miss out on reality TV.
You can purchase the new Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil ($32) at Kiehl’s stores nationwide and on kiehls.com.

#CopyThat: Lupita Nyong’o’s Regal Head Wraps
yahoo
While making the press rounds for her new film Queen of Katwe, Lupita Nyong’o added majestic head wraps to her signature red carpet look.
Nyong’o told People magazine that her “crowns” are inspired by the character she plays on the big screen. Working with her stylist, Micaela Erlanger, and her hairstylist, Vernon François, Nyong’o creates statement-making head wraps with fabrics sourced from as far as East Africa.
Without a celebrity glam squad on speed dial, Yahoo Beauty turned to Fanm Djanm (“Strong Woman” in Haitian Kreyòl) founder Paola Mathé to teach us how to copy three of Nyong’o’s regal head-wrap styles. Watch closely as Mathé “fluffs and tucks” and “molds and folds” fabrics from her head-wrap collection into elegant adornments that can be worn beyond the red carpet.

Theia’s Bridal Runway Look Deserves Its Own Snapchat Filter
Photo: Getty Images
Ethereal. Elegant. Enchanting. We can go on and on with a list of adjectives that start with the letter “e” to describe the look at Theia’s bridal runway show during New York Fashion Week. But let us explain exactly why this bridal beauty is Snapchat filter-worthy, starting with the flower crown.
This hair accessory is eerily similar to the popular halo-esque filter on the social media app. However, Theia’s take on the floral piece mixes lilies with what appears to be dark pink baby’s breath, enhancing the models’ beachy waves and bronzy glow. And who doesn’t want to be radiant on their wedding day — or any day. for that matter?
As for the skin, this sun-kissed look is all about gilded lids, bronzed cheeks, and matte nude lips. And here’s a great pro tip gleaned from this look: Highlighter, strategically placed at the inner corners of your eyes and paired with a little mascara, really helps brighten your eye color.
Seriously. How stunning are these runway brides?

Beyoncé's Flawless Hat Hair Featuring Gucci
Photo: Splash News
Leave it up to Beyoncé to make hat hair look absolutely flawless.
Bey took a break from slaying concert stages to serve up some serious street style with this head-to-toe designer outfit. She adorned her platinum-blonde pigtail braids with a Gucci baseball cap and swiped on a creamy red lipstick, which made her pearlescent smile look even brighter. The placement of the singer’s hat couldn’t be any more perfect, considering getting proper fit isn’t super easy whether or not you’re wearing hair extensions. We’ll just chalk it up to believing that this accessory is likely tailored just for the queen.
Just another casual-glam beauty moment from Beyoncé.

It’s Official! Brick-Red Lipstick Is Back and Better.
When MAC Cosmetics teased their makeup collection inspired by Selena Quintanilla on Periscope in May, our hearts went boom as the late singer's sister, Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga, swatched a gorgeous lipstick called "Dreaming of You." The brick-red color is an accurate reinterpretation of the deeply saturated shade the "Queen of Tejano Music" was known to wear. It also conjured up memories of other rich, earthy lip products (mostly from the drugstore) that filled our Caboodles makeup cases when we were just teens. So you could imagine how excited we were to see this epic return of brick-red lipstick in October, when the MAC and Selena line was officially available in stores and online. According to MAC Cosmetics senior artist Cynthia Rivas, the undertone is what makes this shade so wearable and perfect for fall. "It's a cooler undertone which compliments all skin tones and mixes well with many lip pencils," she says. While Rivas believes that the "right" shade of brick-red lipstick "is one that makes you feel comfortable and beautiful," the makeup pro does have a few tips and tricks on how to wear the trend with ease. "The beauty of lipstick is that it can look completely different from one application to the next, depending on how you apply," she says. "If you're not comfortable wearing red, you can start by dabbing the lipstick on your lips with your finger to create a stained effect and work your way up. Or you can wear the stained lip during the day and bump up the look by layering for evening." Riva prefers matte textures for reds, as they tend to stay on longer and require fewer touchups. "But if it's volume or fullness you seek, try the creamy/glossy formulas, which are now available with long-wearing technology," she says. When rocking bold, brick-red lips, you're going to want to use a lip pencil. It will define the shape of your mouth, accentuate the color, and help your lipstick last longer. For a warmer feel, Riva recommends auburn pencils. To deepen the shade, reach for burgundy or chestnut shades. Meanwhile, use cherry or pink hues to brighten up your pout a bit. Scroll through for nine brick-red lip products we highly recommend adding to your fall makeup routine. Let’s keep in touch! Sasha Lane’s Loc Buns and Baby Hair
Sasha Lane (Photo: Getty Images)
On the final day of Paris Fashion Week, Hollywood stars like Alicia Vikander, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Connelly, and Léa Seydoux were dressed to the nines for the Louis Vuitton spring 2017 show. However rising actress Sasha Lane proved she was one to watch in the front row too.
The American Honey star posed like a pro for the paparazzi outside the runway show. Celebrity stylist Jennifer Yepez fashioned Lane’s dreadlocks into two round buns and added hair jewels. Heavy black eyeliner and red lipstick made it truly Parisian. Slicking her baby hair down to a tee added a youthful touch to the 21-year-old’s look.
With so much debate over whether this natural hairstyle is professional or attractive, we just hope to see more beautiful locs like Lane’s on the red carpet and runway … but without the cultural appropriation.

Kristen Stewart’s Wet Hair and Cherry Red Lips
Photo: Getty Images
Kristen Stewart’s super-revealing look at the Certain Women premiere during the New York Film Festival on Monday is definitely worth talking about. But let’s direct our attention away from her braless outfit and marvel over the actress’s smoking-hot beauty.
Stewart hit the red carpet sporting wet hair, bold brows, and cherry red lips that complemented her burgundy suit. And we love how she brought a bit of that burnished red shade to her lids, adding dimension to her face.
The contrast between her dark eyebrows and fair complexion, as well as the texture of her bleach-blond locks, worked with the feminine-meets-masculine aesthetic of Stewart’s ensemble. Not to mention that her signature smirk lets us know she’s into her hair and makeup just as much as we are.

5 Leather Fragrances That Smell Like Fall
Yahoo Beauty would like to introduce you to "The New-New," a column by Beauty Director Dana Oliver on the newest products, tools, and treatments that she'd happily spend her hard-earned money on. Leather fragrances exude a warm, spicy aroma that takes me back to my childhood, when I'd sit inside my mother's walk-in closet, which was filled to the ceiling with luxurious handbags. The intoxicating rich scent of leather stuck to me, even when I tried to cover up where I'd been hiding for hours on end. According to Brands With Purpose fragrance agent Bart Schmidt, modern perfumery originated from the leather/tannery industry, masking the horrendous scent of real animal hide. "Fortunately, we've come a long way!" he says. "Wonderful perfumes like Creed's Royal English Leather [commissioned by King George III in 1781] to modern English evolutionary and revolutionary creations like Beaufort's Coeur de Noir. But I'm skipping a couple of centuries." Leather-type fragrances with a blend of warm balsamic, creamy, and musk notes are very "skin-friendly" and possess great long-lasting power, says Schmidt. He continues: "Looking at the traditional fragrance pyramid (top, heart, and bottom), these notes tend to fall more in the bottom. Don't you just love it when you still smell it on your shirt or pillow the following day?" Actually, I do. Schmidt points out that modern formulations of leather fragrances such as Valentino Uomo and Oud Assoluto incorporate lighter floral and sweeter cocoa notes that make them appropriate for any season, less intense, and gender-neutral. Though that's the beauty of building your own fragrance wardrobe. "Just wear what's good to you," says Schmidt. Here are five leather fragrances I plan to keep in heavy rotation during the cold-weather months. Let’s keep in touch! Follow Yahoo Beauty on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.

Tom Ford Ombre Leather 16 Atomizer
In my honest opinion, no one does fragrance like Mr. Tom Ford. And this leather-wrapped scent, which debuted at his autumn-winter 2016 show, is strong and sensual like every woman I know. $450, TomFord.com
Tumblr media
Lancôme Maison Lancôme L’Autre Ôud
Perfumer Christophe Raynaud mastered a sophisticated blend of spicy and sweet using notes of wood, rose, and frankincense with this gold-tinged perfume. $195, Lancome-usa.com
Tumblr media
Byredo Rodeo
If I were to bottle the smell from my father's leopard-skin horse saddle, it would smell exactly like this. Roped in by the clean and crisp aroma of vetiver, this unisex fragrance dries down into a stimulating mixture of suede and leather. Available exclusively at the Byredo Wooster Street Boutique in New York City
Tumblr media
Penhaligon’s Portraits : Much Ado About the Duke
To channel the air of a British duke, master perfumer Daphné Bugey mixed robust notes of gin and leathery woods along with the subtle sweetness of peppery rose. The result? A dangerously divine scent that's just as elegant as the bottle it's poured into. $235, Penhaligons.com
Tumblr media
Memo Paris Russian Leather
Memo Paris founder Clara Molloy's travels are the backdrop to her beautiful fragrances. And this leathery scent conjures up winters in Russia with rosemary, nutmeg, tonka bean, and patchouli melody. $250, MemoParis.com

Issey Miyake Just Took Contouring to a Whole New Level
Let's face it: Contouring isn't going anywhere. And just when we thought we've seen every iteration of the face-sculpting technique, we get introduced to a bewildering but beautiful form at Issey Miyake's spring 2017 show during Paris Fashion Week. Alex Box, whose magical makeup looks have been featured in Vogue and W and on the runways of Alexander McQueen, Gareth Pugh, and Chanel, is the woman behind this artful take on contouring. She wrote in a series of Instagram posts on Friday, "The collection was inspired by the germination of the seed, the pathway of life's growth and internal and external natural geometry. ... Something that is so close to my heart.  ... There were beautiful primitive prints offset against complex patterned inserts. ... impactful yet delicate." To achieve this look, Box dipped the flat end of a pencil into silver pigment and pressed it onto the models' radiant skin, "accentuating and following the contours of the face." The placement of blush on the cheeks and hint of gloss on the lips also help to draw attention to these perfect metallic dots. We won't hold our breath waiting for the Kardashians to trade in their favorite bronzers and highlighters for silver paint, but this contouring technique does give us makeup inspo for Halloween. The Blunt Baby Bangs Trend at Paris Fashion Week Is My Worst Hair Nightmare
Thank you, Paris Fashion Week, for reminding me of when I once talked my stylist into giving me blunt bangs. If I close my eyes tight enough, I can go back in time and see pieces of my hair on the salon floor. In reality, blunt baby bangs are making a huge comeback on the runways of Paris.
This vintage bangs style cropped up at several spring 2017 shows, including Manish Arora, Aalto, and Koché. Hairstylists got a bit more creative backstage, playing with texture and volume to give baby bangs interest. But if I had to read the models’ facial expressions to gauge whether they’re excited (or not) for the return of microfringe, that would be virtually impossible.
Keep scrolling to see all the baby bangs we’ve spotted at Paris Fashion Week.
