about maus, the graphic novel

i loved this book. it's absolutely raw and definitely worth a read. maus I does a great job at setting the scene and tone for the rest of the story, and maus II is written absolutely perfectly. props to art and vladek speigelman, as well as anyone else who was involved in the creation of this book.

ep review - stop crying/dying (a collection of platonic love songs) by little tyrant

I want to preface this by saying that this EP is fucking amazing. The songs are so goddamned pretty and the lyrics are introspective and describe the singer's struggles perfectly. There are weak points on it, like "Wastin' Away." However, I am able to look past that as this is an absolute masterpiece. Song reviews below.

Hi (Corny Intro) - 8/10. Pretty solid for what it is, which is a spoken word track. It introduces the album flawlessly and effortlessly. However, the instrumentation leaves something to be desired.

Security Deposit - 7/10. Brilliant guitar work, but the melody is lacking in my opinion. Also, the lyrics are very basic compared to what appears later on this EP.

Mediocre Bedding - 10/10. Now, this is where the album REALLY shines. The lyrics are bittersweet and nostalgic. The guitar work is fucking AMAZING. Not a singular note missed.

Wastin' Away - 6/10. This is a weak point. It's only 40 seconds long, but it's the ugly duckling of this EP. It's just not very interesting.

Sooner - 9/10. This is a very simple track, but the lyrics are meaningful and the melody is very, very nice. I prefer this version to the album version, as the picked guitar appeals to me.

Light - 10/10. Very reminiscent of the Panucci's Pizza song, "Our Arms Are Weak Because Instead Of Working Out For This Fight We Renewed Our MMORPG Subscriptions." This song is certainly very different from the others on here, but it's very pleasant. It's very "spacey," which is what I appreciate in music.

Cute Little Wreck - 10/10. I fucking LOVE the melody on this. In only a few lines and 54 seconds, the singer manages to create so much emotion. Really, it's just an amazing, soul-sucking song.

Everyone Who Wants To Kiss Me Is On The Internet - 10/10. Here it is, the culmination of everything on this EP. It's just so perfect and charming. It's only a chorus, but that's enough to create tension and emotion. I especially love when the song picks up in the middle, as it feels almost surreal. Like you're being transported into space, as corny as that sounds.

Overall rating - 9/10. Absolutely beautiful.
