My awful mother hasnt dated in 13 years and also is so awful 6 out of 7 kids and step kids dont talk to her (and the one that does shes holding their cats hostage).

I still fucking hate them all. Especially Paul. I like to think hes dead now and when i am sure he is i will pay for one of those mean obituaries (he didnt even make i think 3 years but god he sucked so much)

One well touted shelter in la was city provided homeless apartments. Studio apartments.

Well the rules: u couldnt use weed (even though its legal for adults there), god help u if u test positive on ur weekly drug test (yup). Curfews ofc. No pets. No guests. No bringing temp guests over (like a date). And perhaps weirdest: no kitchen was provided and you werent allowed to cook. You had a mini fridge and this entire space would fit in the avg american kitchen.

If you did something (or were accused of doing something) youd be kicked out back to homelessness and the waitlist to get in after being built was YEARS long

Basically all homeless shelters operate on the same idea only u dont get private space

One of the things which I think should be most shocking to people who have no experience with Homeless shelters is how often they have policies which *actively make it harder for their residents to find or keep a job*.

What happens if you have a strict curfew but the bus back from your new job only comes once every hour? Better hope you don't leave work even five minutes late, otherwise you ain't getting to sleep indoors tonight! Hope that doesn't impair you at work tomorrow!

Also, better not try to get any swing or night shift work!

This is so obviously stupid and counterproductive that I think those of us who have never had first-hand knowledge of being homeless can't imagine that this kind of stuff is *normal* in American shelters.

Like legitimately they seem designed to keep people homeless.

Its soooo embarrassing as an American in cities (unless u go the way of blaming illegals which is cowardly, jingoist, and bs) but its even more embarrassing in non english speaking countries.

Im 3 mos in in Mexico and still cant understand full sentence said to me quickly. I sure as shit can only respond like a child. And yes, to be even more embarrassing, i lived in la with thin walls and latino landlords and little of that stuck

Yes really most non americans dont use screens. And ive seen a lot of non americans stating its a genius idea.

Im in mexico two big beautiful windows and no screens. Yes bugs. So this doesnt jibe with ‘well we can afford to treat disease’ uppity brits have said.

Also if you have cats, its a big deal. Guess how common cats falling out of windows is in other countries? Very. A French singer mentioned her cat did this. My landlord told me a month after i moved in here her kitten did too. 2nd story windows both. Thankfully both cats lived after expensive vet bills but thats not always the case

I continue to run into people that are confused as to why Americans have screens on our windows and it’s really quite simple.

I had dragon fruit in the states from i wanna say japan, before it got popular. Surprisingly fresh it was so delicious id regularly shell out $7 a piece.

Then they started growing it in the americas. Pink dragonfruit wtf? Found some normal here in mexico and tried it…no flavor.

As an arthritic who owns a good ol 1950s machine my advice is get a wrist pad like they make for computers. If there isn’t enough space try getting small rubber pieces to cover where ur wrist and the machine meet

hello! enjoyed watching your projects for a while, and wanted to ask: do you have any advice for how to do the work of sewing without busting your hand/wrist? or at least how you minimize it?

Hello! I actually haven't gotten much hand pain from sewing. When it happens it's almost always from too much drawing and/or video editing.

When I do get it from sewing it's typically my left hand (I'm right handed), because if I'm hand sewing then my left hand is often holding things still, and if it clamps on tightly for an extended period of time then ouch. It's especially bad if I'm making small thread covered buttons, but holding onto an embroidery hoop does it too.

For the drawing & video editing table height in relation to chair height is SUPER important, you've gotta make sure the work surface is no higher than your elbows are when sitting. I've been fine in that regard ever since I took the legs off my big old desk. (Also, drawing from the shoulder is good advice, both for wrist preservation and for making nice big lines! I try to remember to do it when sketching! You do need to do shoulder stretches though because then your shoulder gets all tight. Anyways, sewing!)

Really the best thing to do is vary up the tasks. It can be very frustrating when something's coming along super well and you don't want to stop, but it's better to stop for a shortish time upon getting a tiny bit of hand pain than to be forced to stop for a longer time because of a lot of it. I don't like having to put down an interesting project, but I extra extra did not like the time I had to stop drawing for a week because I did too much at once.

I actually don't often end up doing one task for a very long stretch of time, since there are so many different projects and chores to do, but if I notice an ache then I'll go switch to a different task on purpose. A few days ago I spent at least 5 or 6 cumulative hours cutting stencils with an xacto knife, and it was getting crampy after a while, so I stopped several times to go read a reference book.

Also stretches are good, and I really do not remember to do them anywhere near often enough.

I’m agender which falls under nonbinary and trans. I’m afab. And honestly I present afab most of the time. So I felt re saying trans like a phony because I suffer so few consequences for being trans (given how harassed we are). Trans ppl have always said ur still trans babe.

My favorite thing (sarcastically) is when mostly men have no information on my gender or assigned sex but when I defend trans people they start slurring me; “oh u need to shave if u wanna be a woman” “calm down sir” “your not a woman”.

Cuz it’s hysterical to me, being afab. I hope it also lets trans and nonbinary people know that assholes judgement is that bad, that they’ll tell a afab person they are too hairy to pass
