Request: “Hi! Can you write one where the reader is married to Peter Parker, and has nightmares about what might happen to him while he’s fighting crime? I just thought it would be really cute if he comforts her after her nightmares.”

Pairing: Older! Peter Parker x Reader

A/N: I really wanted to make this fluffy, but it came out a bit angsty, so that’s my bad. Hope y’all still enjoy it.

Warnings: Some angst. Nothing serious.

Word Count: 1,220

Things these days were complicated, hell, your entire life was complicated to say the least. Not that you would ever complain, having a heroic vigilante as a husband definitely kept you from getting bored. The two of you had met in high school and you’d be lying if you said you hadn’t had the biggest crush on him imaginable at the time. You had no idea that he was living this whole other life while still attending school on the daily. It wasn’t until he was brave enough to ask you out and the two of you were out on your first date that you learned his secret. Completely by accident, a robbery gone wrong exposing his secret when he used his abilities to beat up the men trying to attack the two of you. Everything changed after that, he came clean to you and expecting that you would not want anything to do with him after learning all this, he asked that you keep his other life a secret. You were calm when you expressed your feelings to him, kissing him and promising never to tell a soul.

After graduation, he’d asked you to marry him, to which you agreed to without a second thought. It didn’t take long for the two of you to move in together and not long after that, you were married. Despite all the changes occurring in your life, Peter continued to fight crime and help the Avengers in background. And naturally, being married did not help ease the fears and concerns that came every time Peter was out there.

You tossed and turned in sheets covering you, your limbs being tangled within the cool linens. A nightmare trapping you within its grasp and refusing to allow you to wake.

You could see him being hurt, hear his pained gasps. You were holding his hazy form in your arms and there was nothing you could do ease his suffering. Why had you let him continue with his double life? Why had you not begged him to stop? You didn’t want him to leave you, not like this. It was too painful, and you couldn’t bare to lose him. His blood covered the skin of your hands, coating the flesh in an unforgettable red. You squeezed your eyes shut but when you re-opened them, he was still hurt in your arms. There was nothing you could do, nothing that could be done to go back to how things were.

“(y/n)?”

Your eyes opened wide, looking around the darkened alley way you were knelt in. “Peter?” You called out, despite the fact that you were holding him in your arms.

“You gotta wake up,” his voice came out in a whisper. Before you could understand what he meant, a sudden cold feeling washed over you and you were pulled from the nightmare.

Your eyes were open, adjusting to the darkness as you strained them to see the figure beside you. His arms were wrapped around you, his body felt cold against your burning skin. You could feel your heart racing and sweat causing your hair to stick to the back of your neck and forehead. Was it all just a dream…?

With eyes now adjusted to the darkness of your shared bedroom, you looked up at your husband’s face. The memories of your dream causing a sting to surge through your chest. He held you tightly as your body started to calm down.

“It was just a dream?” you asked aloud, your shaky hand moving up to rest gently against the side of his face, the blood from your dream absent from your skin.

“Just a dream,” he confirmed in a soft voice, one of his hands took hold of your own and he pressed his lips against your knuckles before pulling you in closer to him.

You were unaware that he had heard your whimpers, that he had heard you calling out for him to stay with you. The fear and sadness in your voice was something he’d never heard and would never forget. His heart ached as he thought about what he should say, if he should ask the question that was on his mind at that moment.

“You’re still trembling, what did you dream about...?” Peter hesitantly asked.

The sudden question made your body tense and could feel tears pricking the corners of your eyes. “Y-You were hurt. You got hurt saving someone as Spiderman.” He swallowed slowly as you confirmed his fears and thoughts. “I couldn’t do anything about it, I just held you in my arms as you bled,” you continued to say. “P-Peter, I was so scared. I was so afraid that I was going to lose you. It felt so real…”

“(y/n), I-”

“Peter, I can’t lose you…” you quickly interrupted him, moving out of his arms to sit up on the bed. Your hands took hold of the sides of his face and you could feel the tears streaming down your face at this point and you knew that you were just worrying him.

“(y/n), you won’t lose me. I promise.”

“How can you promise me that?” you questioned him. “What if-”

A finger pressed against your lips, silencing you. “No matter what happens, no matter who I face and however strong they may be, one thing will never change.” His lips pressed against yours gently before leaning forward to press his forehead against your own. “I will always come back to you, no matter how stacked the odds are against me. I’m promising you this now, just like I did when we got married. I’ll always be here for you; you can’t get rid of me that easily.”

You felt the corners of your lips twitching up into a smile and as he smiled back at you, his fingers wiped away the tears that had gone down your cheeks. “You really promise?”

He nodded, a boyish grin on his face as kissed you again. “Of course. I love you, (y/n). Now,” he sat up slightly, pulling the blankets and sheets back over the two of you, “Are you feeling better?”

You nodded with a smile, “Much better.”

He smiled contently at you as he moved to lie down beside you, pulling you lie with your head on his chest. Just as the two of you were being pulled back towards sleep, an electric noise sounded throughout the bedroom followed by a police dispatcher. Peter groaned but remained in bed, internal conflict kicking his ass.

“You should go,” you told him, sitting up on one elbow to look at him through the darkness of the room.

“You just had a nightmare, I should go,” he countered.

“Don’t worry about me,” you smiled, “The city needs Spiderman. Go out there and do what you do. I’ll be here when you get back.”

He nodded, kissing your forehead and forcing himself from the bed to slip into his suit. You were sitting up now, turning on the light so he wouldn’t trip over something as he’d done many other times before when the police scanner had picked up on something so late into the night.

“I’ll be quick,” he told you, pulling open the window and putting on foot out it. “Or, I’ll try to be.”

You giggled, “Just go, Peter.”

Sparing a quick moment for an update 🧙🏻‍♀️

So my account has been pretty quiet for months now. I’ve of course been active on tumblr, lurking around and liking posts. But these past months, some things happened and I was thrown into a hiatus.

In April, while I was at work, I got a call from my sister that she had come home to find my mother unresponsive and paramedics were unable to bring her back. These past few months since then have been unbelievably hard for myself and my family. I still live with my parents and I was so used to seeing her every single day. I wasn’t given much time to grieve as we entered the busy season at my work and that brought on stress of its own. I found it really hard to sit down and do any form of writing so I just took a break from it. But, things are a-bit different now and I think I’m ready to return to writing! I kinda want to try to find some kind of distraction for when at home and it’s quiet. I don’t want to keep dwelling on the bad things in life, I just want to keep moving forward.
