For people who aren’t on Twitter: @CriticalBard (Omega Jones), critter and friend of the Critical Role cast, has been getting massive amounts of harassment in the past day. He’s a Black gay man who was recently made “pog of the day” on Twitch and racist white gamers have begun a massive hate campaign against him, both for who he is, for his refusal to prioritize white feelings, and for explaining why “white lives matter” is a racist slogan while “black lives matter” isn’t.

In the past few hours alone, he’s had to make his Twitter private, weathered an attempt to hack his account, and was mass-signed up for email spam, on top of an incessant barrage of hateful comments, not just to him but to anyone who speaks up for him.

Omega is an incredibly talented singer, gamer, cosplayer, and actor, and does amazing community-building and activism within the TTRPG community, especially creating the Black AF Roundtable to discuss Black experiences within the TTRPG community. 

The hate he’s getting is unacceptable and awful, and it would be great for us to support him right now (alongside Matt, Taliesin, and Liam.) He has a ko-fi and a merch store where you can send money his way, and you can also check out his streams on Twitch. If you come across people on Twitter harassing him, please report and block them!

david cage’s true calling in life is writing dumb slutty flirting but no one has the heart to tell him so he keeps making bad action movies that pause every couple of seconds

Because this is blog is not limited to Detroit and I have shared some information regarding Cage’s other games, it’s important to update everyone that the actor who played Jodie in Beyond: Two Souls has come out as trans and goes by Elliot Page, and uses he/they pronouns.

honestly the fact that David Cage managed to make a “robots rising up against people” story in 2018 and abjectly failed to include pretty much any novel technological issue is like. it’s a lot. like a couple of times the in-game lore is like “maybe they’re eavesdropping on the humans oooooh” and that’s like the whole thing

i haven’t personally seen anything in this genre yet that really thoughtfully addresses planned obsolescence, or autonomy when you’re being kept alive by paid subscription, or modern technological surveillance and what that might mean in the context of a robot revolution

like, “robots gain humanity and rebel” stories have existed for a century, and it feels like there might honest-to-god be some really interesting things to say if anyone wanted to update them for the late 2010s! but Dave is literally incapable of new or interesting thoughts and just kind of mashes up things he’s seen in movies and regurgitates them into his dumb video games

i get one of these asks a week, and ive answered before, but god this one annoyed me because you legit googled and you were like oh yeah hes chill. nuh-uh. bad googling skills 

heres a compilation post abt everything hes done

this video talks about his shit writing in other games as well as his shit attitude to his staff, the actresses, and the female characters in general.

and in case you cant be bothered to click anything here, 

david cage once made a naked model of ellen page without her consent and left it in the game files, meaning anyone could find them with minimal effort. this came right after insisting she be hired because he fell in love with a picture of her. 

every single one of his games has had a showering scene or sex scene until detroit. and half the time the sex scenes make no sense in the narrative

hes a terrible writer:

he has no idea how to write women or people of colour or mental illness (its implied todd beats alice because hes on anti depressants, and lest we forget ralph from dbh too)

he has no idea how to write abuse other than in a cartoonish way

one of his games literally had a third act twist which made no sense, where the cop was the origami killer, but earlier in the game you play as the cop and a witness gets killed by the origami killer in another room that you, the cop, are not in. despite the fact youre the killer. 

also the detroit plot twist was stupid, kara just “forgot”? that alice was an android? so it could be revealed later? dumb

in one game youre a criminal and you ‘die’ and continue as a zombie type person, and the woman cop assigned to your case can have sex with you. for no reason. sex w a corpse 

his first ever game from 1999 opens with a you possessing a man and sleeping with the mans wife and she doesnt know you arent her husband. yikes!

you can literally kill the two skinny, scantily clad sex worker lesbians in detroit. and if you do connor can mess with their corpses in the evidence room. 

detroit has a bad ending where the robots go to a concentration camp. the androids all wear triangles and arm bands thru the game. that, and the parallels to the civil rights movements (marches, chapters named after the railway, the black-power fist later in the game) makes the game an antisemitic, racist mess. 

jewish people and black people (and all minority figures) being portrayed as inhuman machines is disgusting. 

thats not even touching on the negative historical connotations of ‘these inhuman people are better than us, we need to *take care* of them’ which its own can of worms i dont feel educated enough to get into. the mothers basement video above talks about this point excellently. 

theres also a scene of north (white woman) telling josh (black man) that he deserves to be a slave because he doesnt want to be violent. Fucking Yikessss

im missing a LOT of stuff in these bulletpoints. read the post and watch the videos. youll hate him like everyone else

people legit only like detroit because bryan dechart and clancy brown had amazing performances, and they fought against cage’s directions and script. hell, even playstation themselves fought against cage this time around. 

anything good that happens in cage’s games happen in spite of him, not because of him.
