if i had a nickel for every time elliot page played a character who is extremely powerful, destroys a bunch of stuff (good for them), plays a string instrument, had a punk phase, was raised in isolation, has a strained (to put it lightly) relationship with their father figure(s), went looking for their biological moms only to find out something sad about them, gets a hug from their ghost brother before said brother moves on, moved as far away from their old life as possible to somewhere with a colder climate, and definitely isn't cisgender or straight, i would have two nickels. which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice

jodie holmes character of all time i think about her forever. lab experiment child who sees ghosts. her dead brother is tied to her as a spirit and acts equal parts like a wild animal and the only person who genuinely wants to protect her. she loves him. she hates him. he’s the only thing she has that’s truly her own, and losing him is the most terrifying thing she can imagine. her parents abandoned her. the man who took her in used her, again and again and again. the government has controlled her life since she was born and they will never let her go and never stop chasing her. she just wants to be left the fuck alone. she keeps trying to build a small little life for herself wherever she runs. the people who want to use her won’t let her. she stops the apocalypse, and it can cost her everything.

i think it's unfair to say that David cage "just wants to make a movie", because clearly what he actually wants is to make not very good video games with really weird politics, annoying quick time events and fucking motion controls for the playstation home console.

this is his calling, there's a pillar of fire in his personal desert leading him ever forwards, telling him that this time everyone will love it and the politics will be great and it'll be put in the louvre with all the other ps3 motion control games.
