A creature, a critter, if you may.

Ended up creating an Unvale page for it for some reason

Inspiration/Breakdown:

Inspired by the huldra and this absolute legend (aka. Rölli, a popular Finnish fairy tale character)

The skull is supposed a combination of a reindeer and a Siberian musk deer.

Human torso under the clothing, hands are dark claws, which turn into a gradient at the elbow joint, legs are satyr-like and reindeer inspired.

Tail is a slightly fancier version of your average troll tail, can be used for balance and to hold some things.

The head looked too "empty" so I added large bat inspired ears.

Skull not attached to face, but it might as well be. Pretty much expressionless as a result. Probably wore a skull of a different animal when younger.

Clothing not set in stone and will be heavily inspired by my own tastes (naturally)

Will mostly wear dresses for sake of convenience and comfort, will stick to earthly and dark tones.

Why it's my pony version of Franco of course + My OC Joanne! 🦄

Info about them for those who are interested:

Fairy Dust (Franco)

"Fairy Dust" starts with an "F" and sounds whimsical enough to be a pony name, but it was mainly chosen because it's one of many slang terms for the drug he uses to "infantilize the world." It doesn't change the fact it sounds incredibly cutesy and Fairy Dust HATES it. (It's this universe's version of "Bambino" but it's his whole damn name this time 😭)

He is an Unicorn x Earth pony mix and his design is based on the Lipizzaner, Kladruber, American Paint and any small pony breed of your choosing:

Salvatore is a fancy ass unicorn and his mom was a small, fluffy earth pony. He inherited that fluffiness, but only if he remains in a cold location for a long enough duration and grows a winter coat.

His cutie mark (which took WAY too long to figure out) is a subtle reference to the crimes he commits, so that it won't be alarmingly obvious to anypony that would see it at a glance. The flower is a poppy, more specifically an opium poppy, that I changed to blue to match his colour scheme better. The vapor is a reference to drug and/or gun smoke and it also resembles a trail of blood, a long road of violence. The teeth with bloody roots are to most blatant show of violence and a reference to his resourcefulness, but also a tie to his infantile nature. The first teeth one receives in life are literally called "baby teeth."

He lived in Manehattan and was exiled to Las Pegasus. I would've put him in New Horseleans, but there is zero information about it outside of a few mentions and this one comic panel:

Can't really do magic outside of explosions, and whenever he does, it gives him a headache. Although, as evident above, a broken horn CAN do other things, but Fairy Dust's magic was never that strong to begin with, and it would take a lot extra work and effort that he just doesn't care for. His horn can also reflect his mood. Whenever he is pissed, it starts creating sparks.

He luckily still has that half-earth pony strength and other resourceful tricks to make up for his lack of magic, but he can still be overpowered. Fairy Dust's magic blasts aren't the most precise, and since he is a half-earth pony, he can be outmatched in strength by most other earth ponies. This also includes some mares which is extra humiliating for him lol. (Although, he might request the "company" of earth pony mares for this exact reason 👀)

Crimson Melody (Joanne)

"Crimson Melody" is rather on the nose. Her colour scheme combined with a reference to her singing capabilities, but "Crimson" is sometimes used to also refer to blood, so it adds an ominous edge.

She's an Earth pony of many generations and has the strength of one despite not looking like it! Even though Crimson Melody prefers less "brutish" methods, she can deliver some serious kicks (and Fairy Dust can't be normal about it 🙄)

I base my earth ponies on either small ponies or huge draft horses, and Crimson Melody gets a bit of both! Physically, she is your average pony, but her coat markings are based on the Clydesdale:

Her cutie mark is rather simple, a vintage microphone with a bow for femininity, and hearts for her naturally kind nature. Now, it serves as cruel reminder of what kind of a life she was supposed to have...

Crimson Melody's scars cover her entire right side, making her a subject of looks of horror and pity. There's very little left, she even lost her cutie mark on that side. She used to be more insecure about the looks, often wearing a hooded cape to cover up, but now she couldn't care less. Since this is Equestria, it's possible that the cause of the fire that did this to her had more... Beastly origins. 🐲

Lives a bit of a nomadic lifestyle at the moment, partly laying low, partly looking for some ponies.. But she originally came from the country! Her foalhood town was either Appleloosa or Dodge Junction. Even most ponies she talks to aren't sure, as she changes her answer between said ponies:

Crimson Melody has been humming a tune for as long as she's been capable. The ponies in her town got used to the pink filly trotting trough the orchards while singing. She started performing in the town and outside of it, in fact, it was her first performance that gained Crimson Melody her cutie mark! ..But then the inevitable happened. Fire and smoke doesn't do great things for your vocal chords and her scarring is far from pleasing to the eye. Her soul's purpose, gone just like that... She only hums to herself now. 💔

Franco's and Joanne's Relationship Ramblings:

They are such a mess. Both by design, and because I'm indecisive as all hell ❤️‍🩹👌

(This ended up way longer and wordier than what I was originally planning uuuhh 💀)

Warnings: Usual Outlast Trials related things (murder, messed up dynamics, Franco being a weirdo and possibly ooc, etc.)

Everything started the way Murkoff expected it to. Joanne had to do nothing besides existing for Franco to become infatuated with her.

It was.. Far from ideal to Joanne, for obvious reasons, but she had even more of reason than most. She had been convicted for the murder of about a dozen men, all of them guilty of similar vices and crimes as Franco. He is worse than most of them ever were, but she isn't allowed to kill him. Infighting between Prime Assets be glossed over, but not elimination.

Franco, on the other hand, was swooning. Despite being half burned, Joanne has the face of a model, body of a pinup, and comes off as suave and seductive. He immediately started to try his luck, which didn't pay off at first.. But Joanne ended up seeing an opportunity.

He is so gross and annoying, but again, no murder allowed, so what is there for a girl to do? Easy, exploitation for her personal gain. Franco was following her around like a lost puppy anyway, might as well put it to use. With some well picked words and calculated shows of affection, Joanne was able to make him into her personal bodyguard, although she viewed him more as guard dog. Reagents quickly learned that stunning her by any means would earn them near immediate retribution from Franco. She gets to keep what remains of her face intact and he gets a compliment to stroke his ego and growing obsession.

First instance of something completely new was when Murkoff staff started to notice changes in Franco's behavior. Whenever he would share a trial with Joanne he seemed more... Docile? He was more concentrated on following Joanne around rather than the Reagents, and as result, his aggression and lewdness would also plummet. Franco learned the hard way that Joanne doesn't tolerate certain type of behavior in her direct vicinity and surprisingly enough, he actually listens to her. His infatuation and obsession eventually grew to a point where he was convinced that he is in love and that they were meant to be in some way.

Joanne, naturally, didn't see it that way. She could tell that his feelings towards her are growing stronger and she won't be able to control him soon. It scares her, and definitely didn't help when her bleeding heart made an appearance. Franco is mostly busy sucking up to her, but sometimes his anger gets the better of him and along with it come the cries and those ever famous tears...

Joanne's entire persona is taught behavior. Remnants from a previous time in her life and a tool to get her way in this world, but truly and deeply? Underneath all that rage, trauma and pain is a kind soul, even to a fault. The type of person that can't bear to hear anyone wailing the way Franco was about his dad killing him. She wanted it to stop, so she went past the point of no return and embraced him. She made it even worse when she decided to hum to him. A very specific song that immediately put together Franco's hazy memories.

Way back when in New Orleans, he met a girl. She was nice. She didn't care what he looked like, and they played for the week long duration she was in town. She used to sing a lot, said she wanted to be famous one day. That godamn girl was now embracing him and humming the same song she was singing when they first met. See Franco never forgot, not really. That summer week was one of the only good memories that he has of his childhood, so naturally, he clung to it. No wonder she felt so special this entire time, Franco never really believed in fate but he sure as hell does now.

Joanne didn't take this revelation nearly as well. Far from it. She was already regretting her choice of comforting Franco and making herself so vulnerable, and now he decided to drop this devastating bombshell on her. Joanne doesn't like thinking about her past, especially not her happy upbringing. It just reminds her of everything she did wrong, how much she threw away and how she hurt all those who knew her. Besides, Murkoff got her out of deathrow by faking her execution. Joanne is legally dead. She has burned every bridge and made peace with that, only to find out that she has a living tie to her past right before her in the form of this monster of a man? She can't handle it.

Joanne can't help but think that she is a complete idiot. How did she forget? How many people has she met with his features, obviously Franco "Il Bambino" Barbi and the odd boy who cursed like a sailor were the one and the same. She remembers how her younger self gushed about him complimenting her singing. How he was her "first fan." Joanne felt sick. Why is this happening? It can't be happening.

Because now she feels goddamn sympathy.

Unfortunately Joanne has kind of met her limit with weird men who follow her around like a lost puppy (*cough* FRANCO *cough cough*) Although she does know that Spot isn't being malicious with this, so who knows? If she can get used or desensitized to Franco she'll probably come around to Spot eventually 🐶🦴

Here.. Baby Franco and Joanne... After months of it being a WIP...

School struggles combined with art block is a BITCH.

Anyway! Franco's and Joanne's first meeting in New Orleans when they were around 8 yrs.

Franco stuck around to listen to Joanne singing, who went by the nickname "Jo" at the time. She noticed him and Franco, not really knowing what else to do at that point, complimented her. Joanne was very excited by this. She was from a small town and all of the people that directly complimented her were the people that she already knew. This was the first time a total stranger complimented Joanne without pre-existing bias.

Her first fan, you could say.

A nice moment and all that, but it was given all kinds of new meanings when they met again years later at Sinyala...

It took me ages to decide what kind of hairstyle I should give Joanne. I wanted her to look like she's from the country, but I also wanted something a bit fancier than just simple braids, so pigtail loop braids it is! (Most sources say that the hairstyle originated in the 1940s)

Little Franco has snaggle-teeth now. Silly and cute little headcanon that seems so right, I don't make the rules. It's possible Joanne gave him a nickname based on this, and that it may or may not come back in a devastating way...

Joanne (on top of gushing about the compliment) could also be yapping about Franco's eyes and how they remind her of a baby calf. I like to think one of her neighbors back home was a farmer that had cows and he would let Joanne and other kids to come and look at the newborn calves.. Anyway, Joanne wouldn't have meant it as an insult. She is just blunt and sees nothing wrong with being compared to something that cute. Franco didn't take it that well, assuming that he was being made fun of :(

I also know this was supposed to be cute things but allow me to wound you this once; Franco is instinctually raising his arm to block a potential blow... I'll just leave it at that.

Ugh they make me so ill, I have so many ideas for them it's not funny anymore-

The dresses vaguely represents different parts of Holly's mid- to late teens and I chose 1950s era esque dresses, since Unicorn Wars seems to take place in some kind of mid 20th century setting (furniture/outfit styles, lack of modern tech, etc.)

I was supposed to post this on the movies anniversary, but life got busy and I couldn't finish it in time.. But then I realized it's perfect for Valentines! For anyone that doesn't have a partner during this time of year, do some self-love or hang out with friends instead! 💝🫂

In Finland Valentines day is called "ystävänpäivä" which translates to "friends day" so it has never really carried any romantic significance to me personally, it has always been a day to appreciate my friends!

I also thought of the lightning heart on the fly and MAN WAS I STRESSING (I don't draw lightning/electricity often, it's a struggle and a half-)
