February 2015 Julep Maven
This time I was smart enough to keep my eyes peeled for the preview email. Live and learn!  The only customization I did to my Boho Glam box was to switch out the highlighter (I'm very addicted to the Mary-Lou Manizer) for Becky.
Tumblr media
I was somewhat surprised when I picked up my box as it was much heavier than usual. Then I opened it up and found six extra polishes. Six. Left to right: Heart stickers (I exchanged jules), Brandis (Boho Glam), Becky (It Girl), Hazel (Boho Glam), and six bottles of Hartleigh (Classic With A Twist). The note included with the bottle of Hartleigh that was wrapped individually mentioned that it was a February gift. The bag that included five bottles of Hartleigh included a note saying that they were for sharing for friends. - Eve

Julep Maven January 2015
When I got the email with the link to preview boxes, I was avoiding my inbox. For about three weeks. It wasn't for any particular reason other than I kept getting email, but it meant that I missed my window of opportunity for customization. Consequentially, I'm not very happy with it this month, but it's my own fault.

BOTD: The Scorch Trials by James Dashner
Tumblr media
The Scorch Trials is the second book in the Maze Runner series. The Gladers thought that being rescued after escaping the maze would mean that everything was over and that they were finally safe. But of course it isn't that easy. Phase two of the trials involves travelling across the Scorch, which is the largest burned-out section of the planet. Even though they're out in the world now, WICKED is still manipulating variables as a part of their test. While I enjoyed the continuation of the series and there is a lot of action, the character development is still somewhat slow, and I was frustrated that there were still minimal details about the world. And frankly, I got annoyed by all of the plot twists and mystery. However I did like that there was more of Minho and Newt, and the amount of action kept the book going. I also continue to be impressed by the creativity when it comes to the variables the Gladers encounter, and while we don't know the details about how much control WICKED has over these variables and what the purpose always is, it's intriguing to think of the implications. For example, if WICKED has control over when lightning occurs and where it strikes, it's pretty horrifying to think that any entity has that type of control. While I think this book is a decent example of 2nd book syndrome, it wasn't enough to keep me from picking up book three immediately. - Eve

BOTD: The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King
Tumblr media
The Eyes of the Dragon is, essentially, a fairy tale. A king dies, leaving two sons, and the eldest finds that he has to fight for the throne after an evil wizard attempts to wreak havoc in the kingdom. Unlike his other books, there is no horror and no gore. It's missing my favorite part of a Stephen King book, which of course is the effect of horrific events on individuals, but that does not make this book boring or disappointing. It's just different. Plus, it is of course full of my second favorite parts of a Stephen King book, which is his beautiful way of describing things. Plus, for those who have read quite a lot of Stephen King, it's always fun to find how one book ties in to his other books. Ultimately, if you're looking for a nuanced book that has plot twists has has a lasting psychological effect on you, this is not your best choice. But if you want a well written story that is easy to pick up and relax with, this is a great option. - Eve

NOTD: Julep Joanne
Joanne is a plum polish that arrived in my November Julep Maven box.
Tumblr media
2 coats.  So lovely. So wearable. So perfect for this gray weather. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this polish! I took it off after my first chip (four days in), planning to wear something else, but just put this back on! - Eve

Raviolis MOTD
When I originally planned this, I intended to use much brighter oranges. However, I'm happy with the way it turned out, using more subtle orange and peach-y/brown toned eye shadows.
Tumblr media
On the lid and around the lower part of the eye is Urban Decay Deluxe eye shadow in Shag. Urban Decay Deluxe in Underground is blended in the crease. Urban Decay Deluxe in Ruthless is blended from the edge of the crease to the brow bone. M.A.C. Orange is blended into the outer corner and crease. The liner is Urban Decay Godess, and eye shadow single from before the formula/container switch. None of them are actually available in any form anymore as far as I can tell, except that Goddess is in the Vice LTD palette, available Dec. 4th online only (and now that I've just discovered that, I feel the pressure to buy it, even though WHY?). This eye shadow combo eventually led to this one, which focused more on blue. It all makes me want to try a new one.

BOTD: The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
Tumblr media
Nobody (Bod) is a young boy who is raised as the only living resident of a graveyard. Not only is he taught things like reading and identifying constellations, he also learns ghostly skills such as Fading so that he cannot be observed. Like his other stories, this is a great fairy tale type story. It has all sorts of supernatural creatures, like ghouls, ghosts, werewolves etc. And while it's a bit macabre, it's not scary. There are some spooky bits but this is not a horror story. It's a coming of age story. It's a story about friendship, and family. And let's face it, it is absolutely beautifully written. The language is gorgeous. I would take pictures of passages and send them to Adam when he was at work; otherwise I would read them out loud to him. This books was just amazing, and I look forward to reading it again. - Eve

Sunrise MOTD
So, I wore this maybe two years ago? Because I'm a slacker when it comes to posting. My yellow eye shadow obsession (and it's companion, orange obsession) had me on a quest to combine them with red, which was a previous obsession. This look was one of the more successful attempts at that.
Tumblr media
On the inner corner of the lid is a red shadow that I bought at Hot Topic forever ago, that is my favourite red of all time. On the rest of the lid is M.A.C Orange. Blended into the crease is M.A.C. Rule, and then blended on the outer edge is a combo of M.A.C Goldenrod, Chrome Yellow, and the pigment Golden Yellow.

NOTD: Ciate Couture Noir
I picked Couture Noir up at Sephora when they had a deal on 3 mini pots. It's a black, white, and silver bar glitter in a clear base.
Tumblr media
2 coats. Ok, let's start with the positive. Application was great. Unlike some other glitters that require globbing on to get a decent look, I was able to apply this just like any other polish. Now for the rest. I just did not like this polish on. I didn't like the texture and I didn't like the look. It kept giving me the impression of some old dude's stubble clippings on my nails. Not cute. Perhaps it's different when layered on something else. - Eve

NOTD: Zoya Monet
Tumblr media
So...maybe I was getting a little tired of the Julep posts. Zoya Monet is an iridescent hexagonal glitter in a sheer pink base.
3 coats. (The first was a regular coat on the thin side whilst the other two coats were thick coats I had to glob on.) I purchased this on clearance at Ulta without researching it ahead of time. The Zoya website mentions that it's a special effect topper, and I can see that it would be amazing layered on top of another polish. However, I did find the glitter distribution to be sparse and disappointing. - Eve

I had to buy the Vice 3 palette because I convinced myself not to buy the second one (palettes being something I generally dislike) and then felt very regretful that I didn't have it. Plus, when I saw the greens and blues, I knew I needed it. I've actually used it a bunch so far (pictures to follow at some point). I hated that it came in a make-up bag though, because it was hard to pull out and it scratched the case. Though I'm happy to have the bag. --Delilah

NOTD: Julep Marla
Marla arrived in my October Julep Maven box. It's a deep cranberry color with a silvery shimmer.
Tumblr media
2 coats. Beautiful. I like the silver shimmer, as it helps it stand apart from other cranberry polishes. I got a chip about 48 hours in, but my nails were longer than I usually like and I was in too much of a hurry to actually wrap my nails.  - Eve

Sugar Pill Tiara...this is the other pigment that I have tried thus far. In the picture, it looks shiny, but not like it has staying power. What I mean by that is even though it does look shimmery and silver, I felt like I would have to layer it a bunch and that it would fade away quickly (like the most disappointing, and most expensive, eye shadow I have ever bought, NARS.) Because I wanted to love the colour and avoid disappointment, I used Too Faced's Glitter Glue eye shadow primer, which is AMAZING with both shadow and real glitter. It was so shiny and it stayed so well, I almost worried it wouldn't come off. I believe I posted the picture of it as well. This one was also worth the $12 I paid for it.      --Delilah

NOTD: Julep Mary Lee
Mary Lee arrived in my September 2014 Julep Maven box. It's described as an oxblood satin, and is a "satin" finish. I apologize for the Julep spam, I'm just trying to catch up on my backlog of Julep polishes to feel less guilty about "accepting" new boxes!
Tumblr media
2 coats. Kind of a vampy Bahama Mama. I wasn't a big fan of the satin finish so I threw on a top coat right away, without even thinking of taking a picture of it without a top coat. Whoooops. I like this color a lot. it's really versatile and fits my mood this time of year. Pretty but a darker tone. - Eve

Sugar Pill Starling...this is one of the only two pigments (out of the nine) that I've tried so far, and I did like it, though in terms of the color, it probably wasn't anything that I didn't already have two or three variations of. It looks particularly shiny in the picture, and for the most part, it was like that on. What I remember most about wearing it is that I spilled A LOT on my bed and then had to frantically work to salvage what I could to put back in the little jar. The lid on this shadow does not go on correctly and that also is a bummer. I think I put up the picture of it already...unfortunately, it was a make-up look that I took pictures of, but didn't write down :( --Delilah
