choscar + silence
Oscar is walking to the media pen, focused on the conversation with his engineer. They’re discussing the rear wing, the car has felt less than steady these past couple of weeks and there’s plenty to fix.
As they make their way past some of the other teams, Oscar shifts, a scarce glance making it’s way toward Charles. He brushes his hand across his back, an acknowledgment of the space he’s taking and a short greeting in one.
Charles glances back, doesn’t shift as they cross behind him. Knows Oscar will find the space between himself and the wall and trusts him to smooth the path along the way. His touch too fleeting to ground him.
Charles feels a hint hidden in his graze. The idea that follows his fingertips, tapping just a step below what’s necessary. What’s expected.
The touch sends a pulse up his bloodstream, straightens his back and sends a beat through his heart. Charles swallows. Focuses his eyes ahead. He keeps the smile plastered across his face, knows it’s believable enough. Listens to the silence of Oscar’s voice as he walks away.
#idk what this is#choscar#the idea is kinda secret relationship!choscar and theyre sort of in the space between new and comfortable#if that makes sense? idk#f1 rpf#drabbles#writing#del dabbles

fixing their clothes or hair + choscar
Oscar’s still sticky with champagne when he runs into Charles in the hallway, his grin still far from fading. Charles stops when he greets him, a light touch to his arm, polite as always. Oscar’s mind can’t help but drift to the podium they just shared, the persistent spray of Charles’ attention focused solely on Oscar. Thoughts of his gaze, and the dimples directed at him, are stuck between layers of champagne. They slide along his skin, sinking deep and latching on.
Charles doesn’t pause what he’s saying as he reaches up to adjust Oscar’s hair. It’s a shame he can’t feel the touch. And yet he still freezes, a hopeless attempt to keep Charles fingers in his hair, let the champagne bind them like glue. Instead Charles scrunches his nose when he pulls his hand back, and runs off to a meeting he says he’s late for.
Oscar watches him go. The image of the scrunch of his nose and the crinkle of his eyes already etching itself into Oscar’s bones.

“it’s a bit frustrating to how oblivious you are.” + carcar
Oscar is distracted. Too busy watching Lando struggle in a game of pool with Max, so Carlos yanks at his attention. “It’s a bit frustrating, to how oblivious you are.”
Oscars smile fades as he turns his gaze on Carlos, “I’m not oblivious.” Prickling at the accusation.
“No?” Carlos asks, almost convincingly genuine but his tone sets Oscar on edge. He can’t help but bite.
“Maybe I just don’t care.”
“Ah.” And Carlos sounds, almost disappointed by that. Oscar blinks. He’d expected a bite back. He might feel guilty if Carlos hadn’t started it. Like always.
Oscar waits for him to say something else. Scoffs when he doesn’t. Mutters, “Coward,” under his breath. Doesn’t catch the hardening of Carlos’ gaze, having already turned away.
“Coward.” Carlos finally speaks, “Me, a coward. You. All you do is run,” His eyes pinning Oscar in place. He opens his mouth, for nothing to come out.
Oscar forces his words out. “I don’t run.”
“You run. You’re running now.” Oscar swallows. Finds his throat dry. Carlos takes a step forward. Oscar takes one back. Carlos’ eyes darken, he gestures forward with his hand, nods. “You run.”
Oscar is helpless to watch as he turns, and walks away.

It’s all your fault. + carcar
Oscar looks up, cradling his coffee carefully between his hands. “It’s all your fault.” All accusing staring and pouted lips. Carlos’ eyes sweep across his face, noting the dark circles and skipping over the ruffled hair.
He raises an eyebrow, “My fault?”
Oscar nods resolutely. “Your fault.” His childish stubbornness would almost be cute if it weren’t directed so pointedly towards Carlos.
“What did I do?” His tone laced with innocence only serves to deepen Oscar’s scowl.
“You’re—“ he glances away. Carlos doesn’t miss the scrunch of disgust that crosses his face. “You. I couldn’t sleep last night.” And that’s. What?
“You couldn’t, sleep? Last night?” Carlos blinks. “What does that…” have to do with me? He pauses, “You were, thinking of me? Last night?”
Oscar’s back to gazing at his coffee. Turning the cup with his palms, back and forth and back and forth. Carlos is studying the cup with him, misses the pink rising on Oscar’s cheeks for it.
“Yes.” Oscar manages to snap the word out. “I was thinking of you. Last night.” And now there’s no way for Carlos to miss the spread of color, inching its way up to his ears.
“Oscar,” His gaze snaps up. He looks so pretty, and has been so honest Carlos can’t help but say, “You’re glowing.” The scowl makes a return, and Oscar’s grip on the cup tightens.
“I think of you too.” Carlos speaks simply, like the admission is easy to make. It wipes Oscar’s expression clean. “At night,” Carlos’ watches him closely as he adds, “and during the day.”
The cup steadies, balanced only between Oscar’s fingers. He looks up. “Oh.” He swallows, “yeah,” he glances toward the cup again before placing it on the table. “Yes, during the day for me too, sometimes.”

Sleep deprivation + carcar
Oscar is hunched over his laptop in the MTC when Carlos finds him, too focused on his screen to notice.
Carlos taps the table, “You should not be here, still.” Oscar blinks at him, bleary eyes peeking over his computer. He straightens slightly.
“Lando’s not here.” Carlos ignores him, keeps his feet planted resolutely.
“It’s late.” He states the obvious, since Oscar seems set to ignore that fact. He notes the coffee sitting next to his computer. Wonders briefly how he takes it. “Many people have left.”
Oscar’s expression turns toward grumpy, and he looks remarkably like he has just been woken up from a nap. Carlos does his best to ignore the jolt that thought sends through chest.
“I’m busy.” Oscar looks back at his computer. His fingers haven’t moved from where they rest on the keyboard. “You can go now. I’m sure Lando’s waiting for you downstairs.”
Oscar has been friendlier with him, lately, and the curt dismissal hits a bit harder than Carlos would like to admit. “Alright. If you are busy.”
He turns, ready to leave. “Carlos,” Oscar sighs, “I’m sorry.” Carlos’ eyes catch on his shoulders, which have curled further in. “I’m just,” his hand runs up his hair, tugs on the ends. “I’m a bit sleep deprived, right now.” He laughs hollowly, like this isn’t something that should worry Carlos. “I don’t mean to be short with you,” his eyes soften, “I appreciate you checking in on me.” He hurries to add, “I know you’re here for Lando, but.” He smiles, the first one since Carlos stepped in the door, “Thanks.”
Carlos states the obvious, “Of course,” He smiles softly. “Goodnight, Oscar.”

I don’t want to have a baby. + landoscar
“I don’t want to have a baby.” Lando speaks into the silence unprompted, as if they’re continuing a conversation. Oscar wracks his brain for a moment, but comes up short.
“Then don’t have one?” It seems like the obvious solution.
Lando gazes at him a moment before looking down at his phone. “Okay.”
Oscar is left feeling like he missed something. He hesitates, but decides to let the moment pass. It doesn’t. Lando looks back up. “Do you want one?”
“Do I.. want a baby?” Oscar repeats, uncomprehending. Lando nods, sets his phone down. “I— don’t know. I haven’t really thought about it I guess. A bit early for me.”
Lando hums, tilts his head. “What about your partner?”
“My partner?” Lando nods. “I mean,” Oscar pauses a moment, “of course their opinion would be important, we’d have to have a conversation about it.” Lando just looks at him. “You know, if I’m looking to start a relationship with someone.” Oscar’s starting to feel a little embarrassed.
“Right..” Lando glances away, and it clicks.
“Oh. You mean— oh.” Oscar’s face is flaming immediately, and he thinks he spies some pink dusting Lando’s cheeks too. He looks down to study his hands as he says, “No, I don’t think I do want a baby.”
“You’re good with kids.” Lando still has a slight frown pulling across his lips, discontent with his hazy answer.
“So are you,” Oscar points out. “Doesn’t mean you want kids.” And that does help to smooth the lines between Lando’s brows. He accepts this with a nod, and picks up his phone. Oscar doesn’t say anything when he scoots a bit closer, and Lando keeps quiet when Oscar’s thigh nudges his own, but the color doesn’t quite fade from Oscar’s cheeks.
