Deep Dive #1: Kreapy

Welcome to a new type of post on this blog, the deep dive! These Posts will allow me to explore some of the important characters without having to wait until their scenes appear, as well as allow me to explain some behind the scenes things that are hard to explain with just the scenes.

This is LONG so everything else will be under the cut.

So who IS Kreapy?

Kreapy Krawly was once a popular star at Tenna-Veseon studios back when it was Nighmar Productions. They used to star in a comedy show alongside their friends, including a green dinosaur named Sheen and A former radio star named Mike. Some other members of the cast were a brother and sister, a snail, and Chairel's ex-husband. Shortly after the studio's name change, an episode was planned to be produced set in one of the old soundstages. Sheen was out sick the day it was set to be produced, while Mike and Kreapy were there preparing for the show. Then tragedy struck, as the soundstage seemed to disappear entirely. Days and Weeks went by with no communication from anyone there... before Mike washed up on the Sofa Seaside. When they woke up, they were obviously questioned about what happened, but... they couldn't spit out the words to explain what they saw in the Soundstage. To explain what they saw Kreapy DO to survive deep down in that hell. While never EXPLICITLY said in the game, it is highly implied that Kreapy ate the rest of the cast to survive, while keeping Mike alive for some unknown reason. Mike eventually tried finding a way out from the old soundstage and succeeded, but by that point... it was too late for anyone else.

And as the years went by... Kreepy somehow never died. they found another source of food. It's hard to believe some lightners are so weak, isn't it? Some don't even seem to know what is going on.

and eventually... something else fell into the soundstage. An odd crystal. Kreapy looked into it after all they had done...

And they were simply proven right in their assumptions. They didn't break.

Because you can't break what is already broken.

WHAT is Kreapy (in-universe)?

Kreapy is an old plush of a video game character Kris liked as a kid (who is an expy of Kirby in the same way Sheen is an expy of Yoshi), sitting in the basement of the dreemurr household alongside many other items left down there ever since toriel and asgore got divorced. As for the lightners mentioned as being so weak earlier? Spiders. Lots and lots of spiders.

Kreapy's history

Kreapy predates this take. Originally conceptualized as an amalgam of items connected together with spider webs, they were always the secret boss of chapter 3. However, what they represent in the grand scheme of everything has changed overtime. Originally they were simply a creepy boss with a name similar to Spamton (their original name was Kreepy K. Rawly). Then in Positron Puddles V1, they accidentally became a rip-off of Flowery by Bep_Celeste merged with the friend inside me theory. Oh yeah if anyone is wondering where TAL from that version of the AU is... Well Image_Friend has a different role now unrelated to Kreapy. RIP TAL, 2023 - 2024.

Positron Puddles V2 never made it long enough to have any real ideas. When it came to reinventing Kreapy for Positrons and Photons, I decided to take some elements from the original concept I had that predated this Take (like the isolation of Kreapy and others before they broke, the connection to sheen, and Kreapy's insanity BEFORE the shadow crystal) and make something new out of them. and as for their design... it's not exactly done yet. however I can confirm a few things about the design:

It SOMEWHAT follows memoryhead theory. (in the sense that a single expression references it)

It is closer to Positron Puddles V2 design than V1's design (and is nothing like V0's design)

it is still purple.

Consider this the "Fun Facts/unique reward of insight" section!

The reason Kirby specifically was chosen as the inspiration was because of their copy abilities and what Kris' headband represents: An attempt to fit in.

Kreapy has... a concerning amount of insight into the other crystal holders. Some will be attached to this post as an image.

Kreapy is one of three secret bosses that Kris will have to fight alone in a non-weird route.

Kreapy's Battle Theme would TECHNICALLY contain the freedom motif... but due to their belief about freedom being a cruel joke, the motif is played backwards instead of forwards. THIS ONE SPECIFICALLY IS NOW OUT OF DATE.

Kreapy was the last secret boss to receive a shadow crystal in-universe.

As our two heroes continue to wander down the Sofa Seaside, they eventually reach a clearing with a beach to their south. (a cutscene plays, showing the waves coming in. the fourth time they come in, Ralsei is in the sand using the same "Splat" sprite as Chapter 2. They then pull themselves up off the ground.)

What appears to be a camera with a propeller flies in from the right side of the screen. what appears to be a pair of jaws then appears beneath it.

As a laugh is played, an arm grows out of the camera and grabs undyne as the camera flies off the screen.

Kris wakes up to the sound of waves crashing against a dock... and a certain friend of theirs yelling in their ear. (C3OST-001: Dark Waves (the water music from sweepstakes) plays)

As Kris regains the bearings, they see the Shadow Sea sprawl out in front of them. Just as they are about to turn around, Susie once more speaks up.

At this point, Susie pulls out their ax.

The main mechanic that gives this take its name, the "Positron Puddles", came from a dream I had. This dream also solidified the location of chapter 4's dark world as the Diner.

In universe, the Dreemurr house was never supposed to be a dark world.

A 2024 Update: Out of character

Ok so: Several things regarding this take have bugged me, so im changing some of them.

Kreapy is having a slight name change, removing the K. Rawly from the name, and also a slight design change

Chapter 8 is instead going to be called CORELAPSE (Core+Collapse)

The hypothetical names of a lot of the soundtrack may be changed

... just a lot more will be here in general

To kick this new year off right, I am going to repost the hypothetical OST list for chapter 3 again, with changed names and all.
