Hi everyone. This is something im working on. What do you guys think?
Why are they there?
It can’t be…right?
No. No. No.
Shit.
Dead. Dead.
They were dead.
She could tell when she was five minutes away. Her feet met the debris-layered ground as she made her way to the sight that caught her eyes, her steps light and careful.
Her eyes took in the scene as soon as she got there. Deep lacerations on various body parts. Blood still dripping from the wounds. The uncomfortable bodies lying on the ground. Their eyes shut, thank God.
The murmurs of people and the siren of police cars finally registered in her head. She looked around.
It was real.
Everything was real.
She looked back at the bodies, reality sinking in and dropped to her knees, her world shattering to pieces.
“Err… Jan. Jan? Janice? ... Janice Corban.
Blink. Blink.
Where am I?
A quick glance and she remembered.
“Welcome back from the land of the subconscious. Was it comfortable?”
Janice glanced at the man behind the wheels.
“Thank you for the welcome. If that place was a hotel, I’d rate them a minus 100.”
“That’s beyond terrible. Hopefully, you won’t be going there again.”
“Amen.”
Janice viewed her life in the past two weeks. One day, she was playing card games with her grandparents, after a rigorous training exercise. The next, she's dressed in black and standing in front of their graves.
Is that how life is? She asked herself.
One look at the tall, muscular, dark haired man-her grandmother’s son, also her uncle-and then the tombstone, and she knew the answer.
Louis had recently moved to Ankland and took Janice with him after the funeral. Ankland was a bustling city with a mysterious aura she could not fend off. Probably because Louis had mentioned that both enigtrals and non-enigtrals live there. And there was that place no one dared to go – The Woods.
Despite losing her grandparents, life wasn’t that bad. Louis was the rich, cool, fun and crazy uncle anyone would ask for. Janice and Louis made a great uncle-niece pair, even when he dropped the bomb about enrolling her in a school…that morning.
“Nervous about school?”
“I don’t know. You tell me.”
“That doesn’t sound lovely.”
“That’s what you get for telling me something as important as this with no room for me to express myself.”
“I wanted it to be a surprise.”
“I don’t think you understand the concept of surprises, uncle dearest. Either that, or you’ve lost your touch.”
“I didn’t expect this kind of reaction. That’s why I did it.”
Janice turned to Louis.
“Uncle. I was home-schooled my entire life. What am I going to face when I step into that educational facility?”
“Why do you sound like a stuck up?”
“Your fault.”
Louis snorted. “Okay. My fault.” He steered the car into a right corner and glanced at a waiting Janice.
“I don’t know. School was never my thing.”
“Then why are you making it mine?”
“You should be out there, seeing the world, living it. So I let Amber fulfill that desire. And her idea was to enroll you in Royalties.”
Janice remembered the lady she had seen with Louis at the funeral. His very close friend, according to him.
“So I have to go to a school with enigtrals and non-enigtrals.”
“Nope. Just enigtrals.”
“What?”
“Royalties is a school for enigtral kids. They have compulsory accommodation for all their students but you don’t need it, you’re living with me.”
“Exactly when were you planning to tell me this enigtral detail?”
Louis opened his mouth to speak and then closed it, realizing he had made a mistake.
“Surprise?”
“From today henceforth, you're banned from preparing surprises.”
“Yes ma’am. But you're relieved right? You’d meet people your age who can do unimaginable things. All the twelve zodiacs.”
“Yeah. A whole new world awaits in there.”
“It should be much better than wandering around.”
Janice observed her uncle’s face. He was in his early forties but his experiences were vast. Creatures he had killed, enemies that infiltrated places and destroyed them, friends and family he had lost.
“You’re a great man. Have I ever told you that?”
“Yes. Now.”
They smiled at each other.
“As much as I hate to break this sweet moment, we’re here.”
“What?”
He drove the car through the broad opened gates and stopped in front of a majestic, ancient looking building.
She could see students moving through the windows and exposed hallways.
“Are you getting off or what?”
“If my first impression gets rated less than five on a scale of one to ten…I’ll slash your tires.”
“You’re being dramatic.”
“I’m serious though.”
“You wouldn’t do that to Hayley.”
“I would and a lot more if today doesn’t go well.”
“Quit stalling and get out.”
Janice pouted, making Louis chuckle.
“It’ll go well.” He ruffled her hair.
“I hear you.” She opened the door, got out and closed it.
“See you later.”
“See you later.”
Janice watched her uncle drive away. She turned towards the school and released a deep breath.
It can’t be bad.
Today will be good.
Everything will be fine.
…
Right?

Hi. I'm Oturo Victoria. I'm 22, currently in my fourth year studying animal science. I love reading especially romance and fantasy genre and my favorite books are Ignite me, Twisted Lies and The Love Hypothesis.
I've been writing since I was 10 but they were short stories. I wrote a fanfiction on wattpad. And I've been writing a particular book for five years now, a young adult fantasy. Actually, I've scrapped and restructured the book so many times. It's nowhere near perfect but I hope to publish it soon.
I love to watch movies mostly action and superheroes. I'm also a kdrama and kpop lover, my favorite group being EXO (but I'm multifandom). I'm introverted for the most part as well. I hope to make a lot of friends here!
