“…By studying foreign cultures and languages and living abroad, we gain a better understanding of the many similarities that we share and learn to respect our differences. The relationships that are formed between individuals from different countries, as part of international education programs and exchanges, can also foster goodwill that develops into vibrant, mutually beneficial partnerships among nations.”

“Simple exchanges can break down walls between us, for when people come together and speak to one another and share a common experience, then their common humanity is revealed. We are reminded that we’re joined together by our pursuit of a life that’s productive and purposeful, and when that happens mistrust begins to fade and our smaller differences no longer overshadow the things that we share. And that’s where progress begins.”

US students head to Germany for free degrees - BBC News
“While the cost of college education in the US has reached record highs, Germany has abandoned tuition fees altogether for German and international students alike. BBC’s Franz Strasser looks at the increasing number of Americans who are taking advantage and saving tens of thousands of dollars to get their degrees.”

There comes a point in your life when you realize that nothing will ever be the same, and you realize that from now on time will be divided into two parts — before this and after this.

Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.

Accommodation!
So, I’ve done a lot of research on where to stay when I go to Yonsei next summer, but it all still falls short. In order to be more clear, I decided to make a list of the (possible) places I can consider staying.
1) SK Global House
This is Yonsei’s dorm but I really don’t feel like staying there unless it is absolutely necessary. First of all, it’s expensive and all the rules and regulations of dorm life just makes me….
2) Goshiwons
I’ve done some research about this, from looking up goshipages to habang and I’ve come up with several goshiwons in the Sinchon area that I would consider staying in, which is Family Residence, Ace Residence, Coco Residence or Herb House.
Since goshiwons don’t really accept online reservations and I feel like I need to check the place out in person before coming to a decision first, I guess I’ll spend a few days in a hotel/guesthouse and start searching Sinchon and book a place only after I arrive. It’s risky, but I don’t know what else to do.
3) Hasukjibs
Okay, I don’t really know about this but apparently ahjummas will cook for you and you’ll be living in a place with other students, rather than having your own private room like goshiwons. Of course, it’d be spacier compared to the cramped, isolated room of goshiwons, but I’m the kind that cherishes my privacy, so I think I’ll pass on this one.
P.S. If anyone has any suggestions (of goshiwons) or anything else please feel free to tell me!!! I’d love to know.

Day 54 in Korea Had bibimbap (비빔밥) for lunch today at 딸기골, a small eatery just down the street from the Yonsei KLI building. Cost only ₩4,000 and it’s quite delicious.

Q: How has study abroad and travel helped you today? Kyle Lee California State University International Program Alumni 2014-2015 My experience from studying abroad and travelling has changed my life completely. Before I left for Seoul, South Korea I was not sure what I wanted to do as a career in Political Science. At Yonsei University in Seoul I started to participate in many activities and conventions that related to Political Science. I took a class in International Law where I gained new perspectives from the students in my class who came from all over the world. In this class I had to represent my country and really prove to the class that stereotypes about the United States were wrong. I also got to go to meetings regarding North and South Korean reunification and the ramifications of the Korean comfort woman during the Japanese Colonial period. These events during my time abroad helped shape my career path in which I showed great interest in international relations and foreign policy. When I came back to Dominguez Hills I had new found drive and determination to pursue my aspirations in the Political Field.I have joined organizations such as the Japanese American Citizens League and now want to pursue a career in the foreign-service with the United States Department of State. Without studying abroad I would not have found the ambition, drive and passion I have today to pursue a career that I want. I have gained a new found confidence in myself to be able to compete in an interconnected world and have now recognized myself as a global ambassador and leader from my experiences abroad.
