Gyro Corner Clam Bar Located at: 1205 Browery street, Brooklyn NY 11224 (permanent food stand inside Coney Island at corner of West 12th Street across from Brooklyn Mini Golf)
I am so disappointed at this place. I wanted a fast snack on my way home from the beach So I saw they had Italian sausage and chicken kabob here. So I decided to give them a try. What a huge mistake. The guy cooking the meats in the grill was not even paying attention to the food. Taking orders and all. I should had known when the girl before me ordered a beef Patty and had a freakin hard ass Patty, that I should had known to not order from them. Not too bright on my end and then me being so dumb, I just lost out on $14 for the inedible food that I brought. Which btw I ate cause I don’t like to waste food. But oh my goodness, I should had just tossed it. I wouldn’t even give that burn crap to the homeless. It’s that bad. Never buying from here again. Yuck!

Yu Lian Xia 鱼恋虾 Fish in love with Shrimp
located at 5110 7th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11220
I came by this place once prior with my bestie but didn’t go in previously thinking it’s just another hotpot place; and let’s face it, sunset park is over saturated with hotpot places. So I wasn’t in the mood to have another hotpot. Then a few days prior, yelp messages me and notified me of new and hot places and this place showed up on my feed. I looked at the photos and saw the three reviews and I was like, hey this place is kinda different. It’s hotpot with a twist. A steam dry pot. Plus the teapots with the smoky photo really attracted me in… lol … if you know anything about me? I am a fanatic when it comes to tea, tea shops and the likes. So yeah… the teapot pix got me hooked in. So this evening my bestie and I decided to give this place a try. And it didn’t disappoint. Glad we came.
First off, service was on point. If you know anything about me. I rank customer service very highly. I think it’s an important part of the dining experience, especially since I am in this field - food service. Anyways, our server was very nice and came at all the right times. Had a positive attitude with a smile, and refilled our tea at appropriate moments and prepared our food in front of us. Extra bonus points, they came and said “happy birthday” to me after I got out of the restroom. I was wondering how they knew. Then I asked my bestie and he said he told them. I was like oh, that explains a lot. LOL… well, back story to that, I brought my “free birthday cupcake” to the restaurant from Resort world Casino . Yeah, Went to the casino before coming to eat since it was on my way from my bestie’s sister bridal shower in Long Island. Had to pass through Jamaica LIRR station and that close by Casino. You get the idea. Anyways, my bestie was eating half of my cupcake and probably they asked him and he probably told them it was my bday cupcake. I would assume.
Back to the food, we ordered the combo “hot” pot. They do have a large section of combos and if you didn’t like their picks, you can create your own. We opted for their combo. This pot came with all ingredients in individual containers and then our sever cooks it in front of us by place each layer of ingredients into the huge pot in front of us. The last ingredient is the sauce. They have a timer that is set to 15 mins. Yup 15mins and everything is cooked. While you wait, they provide appetizers that are free. We asked for the beef refills and they gave it to us. But in addition to that we also ordered an appetizer of beef and ox tongue. The dish was rather tasty with some spicy. It had the Szechuan tongue numbing plant in it too. I could taste that flavor from a mile away ever since I was introduced to that plant. I like it, but near the bottom was too salty and spicy so I washed it out with water then ate it. Very flavorful and highly recommended. We had the cucumber salad appetizer for free when we ordered the combo pot. My bestie really loved the cucumber dish. He ate most of it. Now the main course - our sea bass and shrimp combo pot - inside had rice cake, mixed vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, onions, red and green peppers, celery, corn, garlic and our two main ingredients shrimp and sea bass. The pot was very flavorful but a little too salty near the end. So like I said in the tip, ask the server to add only a quarter of the sauce and then you can add more later if you want more flavor or saltiness. We opted for the original sauce, but they have a large section to choose from including spicy sauce mixes. With our sauce we had the server only add half of the sauce. We usually like foods more bland with less sodium and less spicy. So half was a little too much for us already. But again that is up to your personal preference. Forgot to mention, the combo pot is big, can probably serve 3-4 people for $44.99. We were two people and we had a lot left over that I took home. So definitely go with a group of three to four people.
I also ordered a pot of the jujubee and guiyuan health tea. The tea was good, I enjoyed it but my bestie thought it was too sweet for his liking. I however am use to that type of flavor and sweetness acceptable. I also have a similar tea like that at home so I am a fan of it.
At the end they also gave us free sweet soup dessert. However it was cold and usually I like those types of sweet soups hot or warm so I took a sip and didn’t finish. Also cause I have a sensitive stomach and I know the cold version will give me a tummy ache so I didn’t finish it. They also provided free gum and the mini yogurt drink. Nice touch.
Oh, about regular hotpot they offer that too. So if you were interested, they have a special offer where the fourth person eats for free. So if you come with a group of 4 people for regular hotpot, you will just end up paying for three people’s meal. Good deal I guess.
So what’s the damage - our bill with 18% tips (cause we like the service) came out to be $75. Is it pricey, yes but worth trying at least once if not more times. Shout out to the staff and restaurant for holding my phone charger and waiting for my bestie to come back and pick up for me. Long story here - we had a table booth near a wall outlet, and I was so happy cause these are hard to come by these days. So naturally I go and charge my phone charger there. But stupid me forgot to unplug it on my way out the door and I only remembered about it after I got on my bus headed home. Good thing my bestie lives nearby. So I called the restaurant, they were about to close soon, and they said they would wait for my bestie to come pickup before closing. Very nice of them and I greatly appreciate that.
So I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 because while I love their customer service, their combo pots and dry pots are unique, but there is room for improvement. The sauce was kinda salty for my liking, the oil and spicy of the appetizers was kinda too much as well, for my liking. These little things are personal preferences, nothing wrong with the establishment itself. I am just a tough food critic and hard to please, so restaurants that I rank 5 stars for, you know are top notch in my book. And yes I do give out some 5s here and there.
Fellow yelpers, this place is worth trying, so give them some love and try it out if you are around the area or want to try something new - combo pots, dry pots(similar to steaming pots of food).

LA’ TASTE
located at 847B Union St, Brooklyn, NY 11215
I came to this place for a late lunch yesterday with my bro after my ER visit. Long story with the ER, but long story short, I wasn’t feeling well so got myself admitted in the ER to see what was the problem. They ruled out all serious scenarios and sent me home with pain meds then told me to follow up with out patient visits/tests/procedures.
Anyways back to the food. On our way towards the train station we saw this restaurant that my bestie also saw on his way to the train station. So we went in after looking over the prices and the sign that said authentic Vietnamese food. So being so hungry as I didn’t eat anything all day prior to being admitted to the ER. I wanted good food with substance. Well I didn’t get that here. I am actually surprised this place got a total of 4.5 star reviews. Their food is not authentic Vietnamese at all. I love Vietnamese food, grew up on it and know real Viet food. This ain’t it. Sorry but not even close. Maybe “Americanized Vietnamese” food. There were three workers working at this establishment. So I assume it’s a family run business. Two males and one female. The way this place is ran reminds me of some of the places I been to in Shanghai China countryside. Needless to say, not very well organized, same like those in Shanghai.
The two male workers probably the owners spoke Cantonese Chinese. They understood what my bro and I said. We came in looked at the menu and debated what to order while two more people (a couple) came in and order before us. Then we finally ordered and then one male came in and another male came in. So making it four tables of customers. The kitchen worked very slow same like my experience in countryside Shanghai. We waited a while before getting any of our food. So I mumbled to my bro in Cantonese, what the hell what is taking so long? The male worker heard me and came over and said did you want your main entree with your appetizer? We were thinking to bring your appetizer first. Mean while, we didn’t even get our appetizer either. So I told him, yes we want all the food out at once. We just want food. By the way, I ordered pho noodle beef soup. Usually in any Vietnamese restaurant this comes out within 10 mins as all has been made and they just need to put together in a bowl. I guess in this establishment that is not the case or they just don’t know how to make it. I think it’s the latter. When I finally got my pho. Oh boy, was I surprised, I ordered the big pho bowl ( in Chinese call the train head “火车头Four che Tao” which is suppose to be a huge bowl with two types of beef - thin slice, raw beef, beef balls, beef triple, onions and tendons. Well I didn’t get that at all. I was so DISAPPOINTED. Who were they trying to fool? Americans? Cause that is not authentic Vietnamese food. Sorry but no. Plus my bowl only had four very tiny pieces of beef in it. What the heck is that? And the noodles was the amount for a regular bowl. So I wonder what they put in the regular bowl. Half noodle portions? OMG. This is not how it is done even if you trying to be cheap and cost-effective. But I am gonna give them credit for the soup base of the pho, it was flavorful. That’s why they got two stars for that.
Next, their own special Viet spring rolls. It does not contain meat at all. It’s starchy and taste like potatoes or taro inside. It’s a vegetarian spring roll I guess. We were expecting our traditional meat filled spring rolls. We were surprised of what we got and it only came with two on a plate. Usually it’s served in four to a plate. But their version was slightly fatter/bigger in size. It did taste good. Different but good. So they got two stars for that. Next comes my bro dish. He got the Viet sweet and sour soup. It contains chicken and mixed vegetables like tomatoes inside. OMG, what a disgrace. What the hell was that? Tasted weird to say the least. Chicken had a weird taste to it. Like as if it was old chicken with fridge taste. The soup itself was unappetizing. I am surprised my bro was able to stomach it all down. I wouldn’t but I guess he was hungry like me and we did pay for it. Wasn’t cheap. Our whole meal with tips came out to be $28. We didn’t have changed so we gave $40 and expecting singles mixed with fives/tens back but we only got all fives, which we were annoyed since we didn’t want to give $5 tips. We only wanted to give 15% which is basically under $4. So my bro asked the worker to break the five to singles, which he did.
Overall for the food I only give this place two stars. If they can’t get the simple main Vietnamese dishes right, I can’t expect much from this place. So I won’t be going back.
But why then did they get a three star rating. Well cause their customer service was very good and friendly. The male worker was very Friendly. He came from time to time to fill our glasses with tea when we had empty glasses. Also he came up to me and apologized for having us wait for our food. In his own words in Chinese he said, “sorry for the slow service, we had too many order”. Come on there was only four table of people there. So about five to six orders at the time. If they can’t handle that volume, I don’t think this establishment will make the cut in this industry. Not to be mean but just speaking from experience. My dad used to own a restaurant, my previous bf is a chef, my dad is a chef, I am a Dietitian/Nutritionist/Chef. It just don’t make the cut. This industry is rough and if they can’t handle low volume they will sink under pressure with high volume. But I doubt this place will have high volume. Just saying.
Anyways, the service was good and attentive. In addition the sever also asked my bro if he liked his soup. My bro was being very nice by saying it was “different” because in truth soup was horrible. So yes extra star for customer service. But I really think server was being nice and friendly because he knew I was gonna write a review since he saw me taking photos of my food and checking into my yelp. Either case, I do not get influence by others, I write base on my own truth and dining experience; so my rating stands. I really hope this place hires a “real” Vietnamese chef because I do want to see them make it in this industry especially since they label themselves as authentic and they are situated in a location that don’t have much Vietnamese restaurants. Good luck to the bosses and business.

Sol Hyang Ki
My bestfriends and I came here to celebrate my bday yesterday after going to Yang Ji Chon and being disappointed. Before I begin my review, I had previously read all the yelp reviews regarding the poor lack of service, so we were prewarned and known in advance. So as for the service we definitely did not have high expectations coming in. But I still wanted to try this place as I do love food on a stick and I guess its the novelty of being able to grill your own food on a stick on a self rotating grill that is the allure. So anyways, we go here and as expected the service is horrible. Hahaha... The witness that greeted us only spoke Mandarin and had a huge personality problem. Probably was dumped by a guy or something to that affect (that was the bitchy vibe she was giving off. Believe me I am a huge bitch by nature and I know vibes. This lady needs to tone it down a bit especially since she is in the customer service line of work.) So when we got seated, our table didn't have the BBQ grill, so we asked the waitress we want a table with a grill, we are there to eat grill food. She looked annoyed and confused as to what the heck we were saying. So then I said it again, this time in my broken Mandarin. So she replied back with an attitude, we don't have a table with a grill now what you want. We can grill it for you. (At least that's what I thought she said from her mean gesture). So once again, my bestie said in Mandarin how long we have to wait for another table. She looked at us blankly like we were from another world. So at this moment, the couple from the diagonal table from us speaks to the waitress in mandarin and says we are finish grilling, we can move to a table without a grill since we are only waiting for our other food dishes. (That was one of the nicest and strangest gestures we have ever received from a fellow customer. Thanks guys for giving up your booth table). Next the waitress helped to move the couple's thing to another table and in the process of cleaning their booth table for us. We got out of our table and started standing up to wait for our table. This action which is a normal action probably gave this waitress a heart attack as she snapped at us and said sit back at your table and when the Booth table is ready I will call you. My friends and I were looking at each other and were like, WTH, we weren't even rushing her. Maybe she felt like we were since we were standing? Sheesh! After we got our booth table, another waitress came by and started asking what we wanted. So we replied we need a couple of minutes. In which she replied the dishes all take one hr to make, just letting you know. In which we were dumbfounded... how slow is their darn cook that it would take one hr to make a dish. Were they not caring to do business or what. How does this place stay afloat. Btw, we only get one menu to share amongst the table. How cheap can this restaurant be that they only give out one menu. Ridiculous. So when we finally came to a concensus of what we wanted to order, we ordered 5 meats on a stick (beef, chicken, shrimp, beef belly, and squid) and one hot pot chicken with mushroom dish. The sticks come in the following number of pieces Beef 10 Chicken 10 Shrimp 5 Beef belly 5 Squid 5 They also give free "bread" with condense milk dip and four korean side dishes. The so call bread is old and overcooked. Should really be "man thow ~ chinese white bread" that goes with the condense milk. I guess this is their version. Not good by the way. The side dishes were lacking too. The chicken and mushroom hotpot was a little too salty but okay with rice. We ordered three rice ($1 each). But the dish had too much chicken bones inside as my friend pointed out. The foods on a stick are okay. But mostly lack flavor. But on par with the prices from the asian BBQ vendors selling the same food items on the street. At one point a male waiter or cook brought us 5 semi cook stick of what look like meat with white mushroom. Not what we ordered, but we cooked it anyways, just to find it was tough and we still can't figure out what it was (lamb tendon maybe?). We didn't eat that. Could barely chew it. The chicken on a stick came to us semi cooked and same with the shrimp. Which is good I guess as these items usually take a longer time to BBQ. So that cut down our time. The waitress were lacking in their customer service skills. We did not get refill tea and overall was ignored, until we discovered the secret. There is a call button on each table. Had they explain that to the customers, most would not get so frustrated and upset. So this is the Pro tip guys... push the call button on the table instead of calling the waiters/waitress, you get assistance right away and they become responsive of what we want. Everytime we wanted tea filled, utensils, had questions, asked for the bill, etc. we used the call bell. Wish I had discovered that sooner. I guess the waitresses are weird and want to give service at their own pace. Go figure. Second pro tip... so we tried to pay the bill with our credit card and was told we need to pay the tax. Btw, tax is already printed on the checks so we were like yes, we know, what the heck you talking about. Then she says, if you pay in cash then you don't need to pay the tax. We were like really? So of course we took back the credit card and paid in cash. So pro tip...pay in cash and avoid paying the tax. Hope this review was helpful. Only go to this place for the novelty. Food is so so and customer service really is horrible. Staff have an attitude problem and they don't explain anything. Service is slow. Food cost are on par with street vendor prices but still expensive. We ended up paying $31 each (Bill $93 without the tax). Waitress rude and counts the money in front of you. There are other food places that you can get better food on a stick in 8th avenue Brooklyn, as for Flushing, I guess the asian BBQ food truck vendors, and some small places along Roosevelt Ave Main street. Would I go back to this place, probably not.
