I have a longer response I'm writing up, but I did want to drop a shorter response first to a sentiment I saw in a lot of the feedback I received:

"I'm afraid I won't know/will be unsure"

Well, the main solution to this is active learning! You have to learn how to spot antiblackness when it is happening, because it won't always be obvious! You don't have to stay unsure! Or, that's when you find your Black peers and support them when they speak on it! Have actual community with Black people, who speak on it!

Also, I recognize you won't always be able to spot things. That's fine. But one of the easiest things you can do is point out whitewashing. It's a common occurrence. You know full well when a character doesn't look like... Them. When someone's hair has changed, skin tone is completely different... That's overt. You don't even have to be rude when saying something. Don't have to have a master's in antiracism for that 🤣

Anyway, I've posted them before, but if you are unsure what antiblackness looks like in your fan spaces (and maybe even outside, bc it all connects), here are two lists of 143 examples I collected (first link within this post):

anyway you should always remember that all those foreigners you see dying on the news are just as real people as you are who have just as much interiority as you do. there is nothing about you that makes you more important and it is by pure chance that you are not in their position. in fact, this holds for all of history. every person, no matter the horror of the fate that befell them, had just as much interiority as you do. i feel like some people haven't fully internalized this.

See I just feel so vindicated because when they started saying "No Kings" I said, y'all gotta stop acting like Donald Trump himself is the sole issue. We keep acting like Hitler was the only person that was the problem, when we know full well that neither of these men would be where they are without the support systems around them propping up their regimes. We gotta stop focusing on ONE TARGET as the problem, as if it'll all go away with the removal of this one symbolic person.

But I decided to shut up, because I know my opinions on these things, including what makes a demonstration versus a protest (protests are meant to be THREATS. the No Kings "protests" were demonstrations. The LA Protests, were protests) makes people feel like I'm a buzzkill.

And lo and behold, what did they do? They decided that even "No Kings" wasn't acceptable because it threatened other forms of power. As if this settler project itself wasn't based in "no kings". Y'all can't even please the founding fathers y'all laud so much. A fucking joke of a political party, the Dems are.

I was chatting with some of the guys I bask with and they said the way I catch minnows is problematic; What I do is I sit on the bottom of the lake, I hide myself in the mud and I open my mouth. My tongue looks a lot like a little worm so I wiggle it around- and because of that, minnows swim over and check it out. Once they get close enough, then I bite down and eat them.
