Photography 101: Take the Best Food Shot!

Filipinos all love to eat! No wonder that there are a lot of great places to dine. But nowadays, we don’t just look for good food, we also keep in mind if it’s a good place to chill or if it’s Instagram-worthy too!

There’s no reason to deny that one of my favorite subjects in my Instagram posts is food! Food is just one of the best thing ever discovered & created that everyone can even relate to it. Every photo shares a story so better capture the good ones!

I’m going to share with you guys some tips, on how do I achieve great photos that are really Instagram-worthy!

1.) FIND THE PERFECT LIGHTING!

One of the best ways to take awesome and clear photos is using natural light! It’s been tried and tested and nothing can beat its power! Just go near a window and voila!

 2.) ACE THAT FLATLAY SHOT!

Flatlay-ing (if there’s such a word) is one of the basic Instagrammer skills, and everyone can master it right away. There are two things that you could do during flatlay-ing, it’s either you go minimalistic, or you go creatively. 

When you go minimalistic, you remove all distractions or put a little touch of something and just focus on the food, while when you go creative, this is when your skills are tested. You can use human elements, tools and other things that are essential and connected to the subject.

3.) SHOOT FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES

If you are not quite the type of flatlay-ing master, you can still take awesome of photos by choosing the right angle for it.

4.) FOCUS ON THE DETAILS

Getting the feels of the food on photos is what makes it better. Focus on the parts of the food, or shoot a little closer to get a glimpse of its texture and elements.

DJEM’S VERDICT: The first time that I saw this thing, I was like “What is this thing? It looks weird!”. So your girl went searching the internet to find out how this one works. Fortunately, I saw some instructions and found out that it is indeed a weird product. Here’s how you use it: First, you shouldn’t shake the bottle, if so, don’t use it yet. Second, let the pinkish particles subside before using it. Third, scoop out some of the pinkish parts with the use of a cotton bud. And lastly, apply it onto the skin (to pimples, etc.), and let it sit overnight. And when you wake up, tadaahhh! Your pimples are now dry! It immediately works with small zits, and it takes longer to have an effect on bigger ones. This is one of my holy grails (the other is the pimple patch) when I have bumps sitting on my face. I highly suggest you try this out!

DJEM’S VERDICT: Hydrate to the max! This is the mask you need when you feel dehydrated. Seriously, this mask feels like you’ve put on a heavy lotion on your face. Nothing to say more ‘cause this is one the most moisturizing mask I’ve ever tried!

Overall, this Double Trouble Box from Althea is a steal! If you’re going to add each of the items, it will cost you ₱6,380.00, but if you’re going to avail the box, you will save ₱5,100.00!!! Try Before You Buy

It’s really hard to find what suits your skin. Believe me, been there and still there.

Up to this day, I am searching for the best products that will work for me. From hair care, skin care, and make-up products, name it and let me try it. In lieu with that, sometimes I tend to pay for some products that don’t work out on me. And who wants to pay for things that you can’t even use again because you’ll just have an acne breakout or allergies? No one, right?

And thank heavens that I stumbled upon Sample Room’s Instagram page. Sample Room is the first ever beauty, health, and lifestyle digital sampling and review website in the Philippines! Honestly, there was a lot of creative entries but I didn’t lose hope. I believed in myself. In fact, my entry doesn’t have the most views, and comments, but hey, I won! It simply means that with strong will and hard work (because it took us like more than ten times to shoot the spraying thingy), it makes the dream work!

The last one was a Whisper box. (Of course, the packaging was cute again!)

As a student, spending was one of my major problems. You know, you need to maximize your allowance. Second, it taught me to believe in myself and be myself. Through their contests, I can express my thoughts, and show off my skills. I would also like to thank them for appreciating my effort in my entry. This really boosted my self-confidence. Lastly, I got to know some roommates and made friends with them!

Now it’s my time.. (My Sodexo Experience)

Christmas is around the corner, and people are starting to shop gifts for their loved ones, buy ingredients for their Noche Buena and travel for them to relax. But what I love about this time of the year is giving gifts and of course receiving some too..

Last week, I received a Sodexo Gift Certificate from a friend. She gave it to me because she has a lot of it and she also mentioned that these Sodexo GCs are forever! Yes, you read that right! It will be always valid, and if it reached it’s validity, the revalidation and replacement of it are free of charge for once. Pretty impressive, no? 

Anyway, back to our topic, my friend who gave me the gift certificate, was sharing her blessings. This may count as my Christmas gift from her too. Thank you, friend! (We all need a friend like this, really!) But there’s one problem, she gave it at a wrong time. The week before she handed it to me, I already did my Christmas shopping. So I came up with an idea!

Today, I’ll let my boyfriend shop! My boyfriend and I are going strong for two (2) years. We love going to places, and trying out new food. He is just the best (I know, all girls with boyfriends can agree, right?). He is very understanding, caring and protective. He’s also patient when I go shopping, and now, it’s my time to treat him! It was 5pm when he fetched me at my place. He has no idea of what will happen today. I just told him that we’re going to the mall. The money that we have, came from our parents. So, to be practical, we need to have the initiative to pay sometimes, or insist to split the bill (Don’t get me wrong, but this is just my opinion about having a relationship while studying).

In the future, I’m planning to give some Sodexo Gift Certificates to my friends as a gift on their birthday or if ever I receive some again, I would love to treat my family to a restaurant and shop some clothes and shoes for them. My own way of saying thank you, and showing how much I appreciate and love them.

The Happy Organics Laguna Review

Trying out The Happy Organics for the second time!

I’m trying out some The Happy Organics, again! So if you liked my previous post about the items I tried from them, then you’ll love this!

Without further ado, let’s get this started!

NONI COCO MIRACLE HEALING SOAP 135g ₱150.00 (★★★★☆)

WHAT IT CLAIMS: Say goodbye to acne, eczema, rashes & other skin problems with this miraculous soap uniquely formulated with all the healing benefits. It contains anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial & anti-fungal properties that gently cleanses & protects the skin leaving it softer and younger looking. It also has anti-aging & skin lightening benefits. A bar that truly rejuvenates your skin on a cellular level! Ideal for dry, sensitive and problematic skin types.

MADE UP OF: Noni Fruit infused with soothing oils (Virgin Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Rice Bran Oil, Macadamia Nut Oil, Rosehip Oil) & moisturizing Coconut Milk.

DJEM’S VERDICT:  I love this soap because it’s not too harsh to the skin and it’s also moisturizing! I used this when I have insect bites and to my surprise, the itchiness is gone and after 2 days, the red marks are gone too. If you need a soap for your skin problems, then this soap is the best!

MY FAIR LADY CREAMY WHITENING BODY SCRUB 100g ₱250.00 (★★★★★)

WHAT IT CLAIMS: Skin becomes noticeably fairer, almost instantly!

MADE UP OF: Argan Oil, Virgin Coconut Oil, Apricot Scrub, Milk Essence, Sweet Almond Oil, Cocoa Butter, Rosemary Extract, AHA, Papaya, Bearberry, Licorice, Moringa.

DJEM’S VERDICT: I love the sweet scent of this scrub! It’s not that rough when scrubbed against the skin and you can feel the difference after one wash. Your skin feels light, and hydrated. The only thing that I don’t like about this scrub is that the portions is too little. Like I only used this for like 2 or 3 times. But yeah, I bet the ingredients were high-quality and worth the price.

MY FAIR LADY WHITENING SOAP 135g ₱150.00 (★★★★☆)

WHAT IT CLAIMS: This bar effectively tightens pores, prevents premature aging, and lightens scars and darks spots on skin naturally!

MADE UP OF: Fresh Goat’s Milk, Yogurt, Natural Herbs & AHA rich Citrus Fruit Extracts, blended with Rosehip Oil, Vitamin E and the highest strength of Glutathione with Orange Peel bits added as natural bleacher & toner.

DJEM’S VERDICT: The perfect moisturizer soap! I love this soap because after using this I can really feel the tightening and moisturizing effect. And it smells like milk too! So if you want to spoil your skin with moisture then this is the one!

PINK HIMALAYAN GOAT MILK SOAP  ₱245.00 (★★★★★)

WHAT IT CLAIMS: This bar will help cleanse and revitalize your skin & has exfoliating properties, leaving your skin fresh, soft & healthy. It also helps in controlling many skin conditions like dry & oily skin, eczema, dermatitis & acne among many others. This salt bar also stimulates circulation, soothes sore muscles, and removes toxins from the body.

MADE UP OF: Fresh Goat Milk, Organic Aloe Vera Juice, Saponified Coconut, Palm Olein, Soybean, Castor Bean, Certified Organic Virgin Olive Oils, Shea Butter, Himalayan Pink Salt, Goat Olive Soap Solution, Garden’s Secret Essential Oils, Australian Zeolite Minerals, Citric Acid.

DJEM’S VERDICT: I didn’t notice that my skin colour become fairer after using this but girl, this soap is so relaxing when used. I love its scent. It’s a bit strong and citrusy. I also love its rough surface that means it also exfoliates but hydrates your skin at the same time! If you want to pamper yourself, then this soap is for you!

Skinny Coffee Club Review

Already obsessed with coffee? 

Since my mom was a coffee person, I started to like coffee at the age of 9, but I became during my 1st year college days. You know, late nights that I need to do my projects, research, reports, and exams, where coffee became my best friend.

As time passes by, I am continuously gaining weight because of stress eating and I became very conscious of it. So, I tried a lot of slimming coffees out there and some didn’t really work out. Skinny Coffee Club came out of the blue, so hey, why not try it too.

I got myself a 28 Day Weight Loss Program that costs £24.95. It took around 3 weeks to arrive at my doorstep. So before you drink this baby, you should pour hot water into your mug and 1 teaspoon of coffee into a French press and let it infuse for 3-5 minutes. It is not recommended to drink it with milk and sugar but you add coconut milk or almond milk accompanied by Stevia as a sweetener.

WHAT IT CLAIMS: Aims to raise your metabolism, burn fat, fill you with energy throughout the day and leave you feeling fuller for longer.

MADE UP OF: Organic and formulated with highly sought after ingredients each sourced and selected for their unique properties.

DJEM’S VERDICT: I’m not going to sugar coat anything here so yeah. This coffee is one of the least coffee that I don’t like. First of all, it is a hassle to make. You need a French press or whatsoever, and infuse it for minutes before you can even drink it. And lastly, it didn’t work out for me. After 28 days of drinking this, nothing happened. I didn’t lose weight. But, there’s one thing that I can recommend about this coffee is that it really upsets your appetite. And that’s it! Maybe it just didn’t work out for me. So yeah.

MADE UP OF: Demineralized Water, Aluminium Chlorohydrate, Isopropyl Myristate, Cyclomethicone, Fragrance, Tocopheryl Acetate, Lactic Acid, Licorice Extract, Bearberry Extract, Methylparaben, Triclosan, Allantoin, Propylparaben

DJEM’S VERDICT: This deodorant is great! It really controls underarm perspiration for a day! I tried it for a week, and no other not-so-good experiences. For me, so far, so good. No yellow stains when you wear it with a white shirt. And the best part? It didn’t make my armpits darker! I guess, if I continue to use it, maybe, it will lighten my underarms.

2.) AP-24 WHITENING FLUORIDE TOOTHPASTE 110g ₱380.00 (★★★★★)

WHAT IT CLAIMS: Brightens and whitens teeth. AP-24® Whitening Fluoride Toothpaste lightens teeth without peroxide while preventing cavities and plaque formation. This gentle, vanilla mint formula freshens breath and provides a clean, just-brushed feeling that lasts all day.

MADE UP OF: Water, Hydrated Silica, Sorbitol, Aluminum Oxide, Glycerin, Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate, PEG-12, Flavor, Cellulose Gum, Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Saccharin, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

DJEM’S VERDICT: I love this toothpaste! It’s the classic white fluoride toothpaste but better! After with just one use, you can literally see the difference with the colour of your teeth. I mean, not very obvious, but you can see it. Do you get me? Hehehe. So yeah, another thing that I love about this thing is the flavour. It doesn’t have that too much menthol or what but still keeps your mouth cool.

3.) SCION FEMININE WASH PH BALANCED 250ml ₱450.00 (★★★★★)

WHAT IT CLAIMS: A mild vaginal wash that cleanses and provides a refreshing feeling. Scion Feminine Wash pH Balanced maintains the natural acidic pH level and maintains a normal environment. It is soap free, with a pH level of 3.5

MADE UP OF: Water, Coco, Betane, Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate, Lactic Acid, Fragrance, Glycol Dystearate, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Cetyl Pyridinium Chloride, Allantoin

DJEM’S VERDICT: The thing that I’m obsessing about this feminine wash is it has no cooling effect, which I think is weird. So yeah, it feels very light that if it doesn’t produce bubbles, you can’t even tell that you’re using a liquid wash on your private area and that’s a good thing! So if you like a subtle wash, then this one is for you.
