NASA: On second thought, maybe burning fossil fuels COOLS the planet
A new study by NASA suggests that rather than raise the temperature of the earth, burning fossil fuels might actually be lowering temperatures. It flies in the face of all the alarmism out there and, once again, flies completely in the face of the phony “settled science” narrative.

So my facebook friend just posted this pic with this text….
Well, I just witnessed blatant racial injustice with my own eyes. I was getting in my car after exiting a store when a young black man stumbled past me and collapsed against the store wall. When I got out to see if he was okay, a group of white people came rushing over, one of whom was a 20-something white woman who declared in distress, “I ran a red light and hit him with my car!” People immediately assured her that SHE would be okay, meanwhile the young man is writhing in pain on the ground, pants leg torn, tears running down his face. When the police arrived and the young woman explained what happened, it was suggested to her that maybe the light had been yellow and that the young man had “darted out into the street into her path.” I was floored. I said, “But she just SAID she ran the red light and hit him in the intersection!”  The police officers then led the young woman away and began talking with her privately in low tones. When the paramedics FINALLY got there I was surprised at the hostility they showed towards the young man. One blonde female EMT (shown in the photo) suggested that he couldn’t be THAT hurt if he was able to walk from the place where he was struck to the sidewalk where he finally collapsed. White bystanders commented several times about “What that poor girl must be going through.” I was the only one who commented on what the young man must be going through, what, with his mangled leg and all. I am absolutely positive that in the end “that poor girl” will be absolved of all wrongdoing and be able to go on her merry way. After all, she just ran a red light and slammed her car into the body of some black kid on a bike, right? And people wonder why black people are so angry and want to break shit.

Image: A Living Mars.
Kevin Gill’s rendering of Mars shows what the planet could (or might have once) look like if it had oceans, clouds, and life.
This is a view of the Western hemisphere with Olympus Mons on the horizon beyond the Tharsis Montes volcanoes and the Valles Marineris canyons near the center. The height of the clouds and atmosphere are largely arbitrary and set for the sake of appearance and coverage over the exaggerated terrain elevations (~10 times elevation exaggeration). The eye is about 10,000 km (~6,200 miles) from the surface.

2012 technology predictions round-up.
12 months ago I posted up a few predictions for the year, here’s how it’s looking now:
Voice control comes to Android.
Done, although I wish it understood my Kiwi accent a bit better.
Apple releases a modular TV.
I’m so freakin sick of the Apple TV rumor, I wish I could go back in time and kick myself for this one. Still waiting for any sort of Apple TV product.
5GHz consumer CPUs announced.
Not there yet either, although this one is clocked at 4.2GHz out of the box. Intel’s i7 models have often been able to be overclocked to over 5GHz on air-cooling for a few years now, but for now manufacturers seem to be focusing on ever-lower power consumption in processors than on a raw boost in clock speeds.
Augmented reality visor demonstrated.
Bingo, and it looks like Google Glass could have competition from Microsoft and Sony. Also, not quite AR, but I can’t wait for the Oculus Rift VR headset either.
Water proof mobile phones.
The Sony Acro S came out in August at IP57 standard for water and dust proof, now Sony has unveiled the Xperia Z which can be “used in the shower”.
Last Blackberry phone produced.
Nope, in fact RIM is still pushing on with Blackberry 10 and a new phone release, and if you’re on the platform check out the 8 Bit Future Blackberry App.
Windows 8 starts a new computer category - hybrids.
Absolutely, in fact it spawned a range of new form factors.
The Higgs boson particle is finally found.
Yes, probably. Hopefully.
Sub $100 tablets come to market (and they don’t suck).
Chinese manufacturers are still pushing plenty of sub US$100 tablets, but at this stage it’s still a stretch, unless you’re in India.
No new Xbox or Playstation released in 2012.
Correct, here’s hoping for some action in 2013.

Innovega to demonstrate contact lens display today at CES.
I covered the Innovega contact lens here after they revealed details of the product at CES last year. Now the company has announced that a working version of the HUD contact lens will be shown at CES from today.
From January 8th to 11th, Innovega will demonstrate eyewear that offers a clear and simultaneous view of a wearer’s rich media and of their immediate surroundings”.
The Innovega iOptik™ video eyewear is transparent and its ‘virtual canvas’ on which digital content is placed, is the largest anticipated in the industry. Compared to a conventional 42 inch flat-panel television that consumers buy for their living rooms, Innovega’s mobile eyewear accessory will deliver the equivalent of a 240 inch, HD, 3D experience.
