Spy X Family vibes
The defeated and bloodied king was chained to kneel in front of his enemy and he says weakly: "Is my wife still alive?" His enemy nodded. "You fools," he said smirking, and the king starts laughing as the sounds of explosions getting closer shake the room.

I've lived in Quebec for 22 of my 28 years and have never once seen dumplings listed as anything other than dumplings on menus...
Tumblr media
Accidentally called dumplings "Peking ravioli" in front of my New Jersey coworkers and I had to frantically explain that this wasn't some insane form of esoteric Italo-Chinese racism, that's just what they're called in Boston. Had to take a picture of a menu to prove it.

I try to cross, but nobody can hear
So I wait around for an opening to appear
While I’m watch, watch, watching people drive
I’m breaking through the window, oh
Can anybody see, is everybody driving right at me?
furry dear Evan Hansen might have a song like "mating in a meadow" maybe

So @skyrim-forever made (is making?) some Cunk on Nirn edits and it made me think of what other universe I'd love to see Philomena Cunk in.
And then it hit me. The Kingkiller Chronicles (The Name of the Wind and the Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss) has a narrative structure that's essentially an interview. Replace Chronicler with Cunk and there you have it.
Now the University was founded roughly 300 years prior to the writing of Ruh ballad and love anthem "The lay of Sir Savien Traliard"
So my mate Paul once tried to catch the moon as well. Except he was pissed at the time and what he thought was the moon was actually the reflection of a streetlight in a puddle and he ended up all wet.
Wait a minute so you're telling me in Vintas they have a Baron that's a Donkey? And they let him in the University to be an arcanist? Doesn't sound like a reputable institution to me.
Anyway, I'm sure better writers than me could find tons of other potential Cunk moments from Kvothe's story.

I disagree with this actually. I'm partway into the game, having just recruited everyone and while some scenes feel a bit stilted, some are also surprisingly insightful and well thought out.
Mild spoilers ahead obviously
I particularly enjoyed Harding's recollection of the Inquisition, it gave us insight as to how it developed in the years post tear crisis.
I really like a lot of Emmrich's banter lines, we get a really interesting perspective on the necromancer trope, almost as caretakers of a spirit nursery.
The dialogue in the main action cutscenes might be shorter and more action oriented but I think this might be to keep us in the vibe of the action gameplay. The dialogue in the more social quests with all the companions and the dialogue at the lighthouse is definitely different and I'm getting what I expected from dragon age honestly.
I've seen a lot of people trash this game and I think it might because of mismatch expectations. A video game is never going to be a fantasy novel, it's not the same medium. But I suspect that a lot of the criticism of the storytelling in veilguard might be due to some people not engaging with the banter, side dialogue et compendium entries.
I've thoroughly enjoyed the game so far and I wanted to put out that perspective out there. Obviously opinions are personal but I'm a big fantasy reader and as a video game I think veilguard is very good.

@vampireapologist Are you a scientist in the eDNA field as well? I'm wrapping up my microbiology/Biochemistry PhD thesis on eDNA in Canada and I don't think I've ever met another scientist working with eDNA, just a bunch of names in papers from universities far away. 😅
I think the funniest possible thing to do in a low stakes situation when someone subtly insults you is to ask them to elaborate.
In Seattle I was explaining environmental DNA and a woman said it “tickled” her to hear someone with my accent (rural Appalachia) “talk about science.”
So I said, “oh! 🙂 What an interesting perspective. Can you tell me more about what you mean?”
As you can imagine it went badly for her very quickly.

The be more specific, these are Quebecois landscapes!
1st: Montreal street in the snow, recognizable by the iconic metal staircases.
2nd: Feels like Quebec city, on of the streets between rue st Jean and St Louis maybe.
3rd: Distinctly Quebecois vibe but can't place it for certain.
4th: Montreal again, the staircases.
5th: Not sure but I've been in this park before I am certain.
6th: Quebec city, Cote de la Montagne i'd guess.
7th: Probably Montreal with the skyscrapers but I can't place the intersection.
8th: Could be anywhere in Charlevoix.
9-10: Unsure, probably Montreal.
These are so familiar, it's the kind of landscape I grew up seeing everyday, if only I could afford one of his paintings, maybe one day.
