I disagree that she is 'reduced' to a mom, at least in the way I read it (I will only defend my own take, I've been shielding myself from annoying sides of the fandom quite effectively and am sure there are some mom-Euten depictions out there that I'd hate with a similar passion as you)
I also disagree it would be different if she was a man, because there HH is full to bursting with father figures as it is. No shortage of making men into fathers here. We're low on mother figures because we're honestly low on women in general.
And you're right, she is a fucking hero, she is smart and brave and loyal and stood up to Curze! She did all this through her own actions and not by family obligation. Nothing I said contradicts this. That a love and loyalty has grown familial does not suddenly make it an obligation.
So anyway, this is mostly to explain why I will continue calling Euten Guilliman's mom (even though I know Guilliman himself didn't) whenever I feel like it and you can fistfight me if you want. Tomorrow. I'm going to bed now.
If I have to see Tarasha Euten being referred to as Guilliman’s mother one more time I’m gonna start throwing punches.
#and yeah Guilliman has a completely different relationship to Konor and saw him as a parent in a way that he did not view Euten#and Euten never actually tried to take that role#Its still where they ended up though#it's partly joking but it is a joke I will continue making without apology because it fits#Euten is Guillimans mom the same way that Danioch and Polux are married.

I am here to join the argument!
And I am going to argue that while Euten was never officially Guilliman's mum, she is functionally Guilliman's mum. Everyone knows it, nobody (canonically) says it.
Except Konrad Curze. And I think he was cutting to the core of the matter.
When I read Imperium Secundus, where the majority of their interactions as far as I've read take place, the impression I got was that Eutens station as Guilliman's mum was always implied.
Now, Guilliman and Euten consotently refer to eachother by title and not as parent and child, but the way they interacted made it seem that she filled a mother's role in his life. The Ultramarines show her a special kind of respect that her official position doesn't really call for. It was my genuine, no-fandom-interaction-yet read that this was because they knew, but couldn't fully formulate, that this was their Primarch's mother.
If I have to see Tarasha Euten being referred to as Guilliman’s mother one more time I’m gonna start throwing punches.
#I can understand frustration with the 'all women are mothers' shit that shows up too often in fandoms#but I maintain that it applies in this case

Sanguinius and his Sanguinary Guard in the gardens on Macragge.
The second thing I did for last years summer exchange, as a treat! This one for @iapetusneume, and illustration for one of their fics.
#and in an artstyle that's a bit of an experiment#partly because I was right up against the deadline on this one and had to do something a little less detailed than my assignment#warhammer 40k#sanguinius#WH40KSummerFestExchange2024#belatedly#my art

Unexpected kindness towards the dreaded IX-Legion.
I didn't join the Secret-Sanguinala exchange this year, but I did do a little exchange with a friend of mine. This is an illustration from her very lovely fic crime and punishment, about my favourite part of canon: the transformation of the Dread Ninth into the Blood Angels.

So this is the Ultramarine rental agency, we will find the right Ultramarine for you.
Have you heard that the Ultramarines are a bit flavourless and boring? Or have you tried one and was left unsatisfied, do not worry. Ultramarines comes in all shapes, colours and sizes. There is something for everyone here.
Do you like them a bit stupid but with a good heart? We got that. Or perhaps dashing and a bit reckless? We got that, too. Or do you like ‘em pretty as they come but a bit of a stickler for the rules, we got it.
Tell me what you like in a character and I will find you the perfect Ultramarine to suit your needs.

Oh, this is a good selection of Ultramarines! I am curious about the pretty, rule-following one. But what I really need is a bonded pair. A "do not separate from battle-brothers" kind of situation. What do my options look like?

I usually start with a 'trial mini' that has all the parts I am not much a fan of, so that it won't be a big deal if I mess upp on that one. I paint it first too so that I have my colour scheme set for the rest of them.
Then I inevidably get super attached to that specific model. My weird son who I love the most.
When you build minis with multiple parts/interchangeable bits. Do you give the first mini the best parts and then the less favoured they are they get to look more and more whack. Or do you spread the “ugliness” out so all of them are the same level of aesthetically pleasing?
#warhammer#miniature building#usually there is also a leader of some kind who get the nicest parts#preferably I put them together so that I like them all#but that is very easy since I've generally made up little personalities and relationships for the whole team halfway through the process

Thank you for the detailed response! And I agree with your reasoning. I've only done limited GMing so this is mainly from a player perceptive.
I definitely would also want to be present if something big was happening, even if my character wasn't there. Same if it was an emotional moment for one of the characters. Not only for the information itself, but to have received it when it was the most emotionally resonant and tense, if that makes sense. I'd want that too if I was the active player, and be a little sad if others missed my intense character moments. I wouldn't mind at all if others decided to take a break while some of us were thinking about a puzzle, or the GM was describing cool spices I wanted to buy though.
The example that brought this on was more of the "Bard and Warlock goes shopping" variety. It was an extended, humorous scene but one that got kinda loud, and also the urge to be opinionated was strong. Figured it would be better for me to recharge a little and for the present PCs to have fun without me butting in. I thought of it as option 2, and found out my GM was of the option 3 opinion. Alas, I did not intend to hurt his feelings.
From what I gathered from him "sometimes you just don't enjoy this part of the session" was part of the problem. That it kinda stings when some players are evidently unenthused with something that took effort to prepare. While I had hoped that it would have been a relaxing thing that all players don't have to be into everything at all times. If one steps out for a bit and lets attention be on the players that remain and are engaged, that's all good. Though it might not well unless everyone at the table also feel that leaving is neutral.
So I figure a number of you nerds among my followers probably play ttrpgs right?
I had a "this opinion is not universal" experience in a session recently, and now I curious how this works at y'all's tables. RPG-Etiquette poll! Aside from little things like going to the bathroom and getting a new drink, how do you look at a player leaving the the table (or, in a digital game, removing their headphones/leaving the computer) for the duration of a scene they're not in? Say the party has split, half the party is IC-present for the scene, but the scene isn't actively secret.
*A player who is tired, stressed, overstimulated or otherwise really need a break may sit out the scene, but it isn't optimal.
No option for seeing results, check in again next week!
I'm curious, since the options I heard showed really different viewpoints.

I think the Space Wolves would like saunas.
Well, it is Marine Meat Monday, and I figured it was time I put something up for it again!
