I saw a post a bit ago of someone saying how silly it is that "that that" is a perfectly grammatically correct thing to say in English. But they said that as though that were the only word that could be doubled up like that in English.

There is also of course "had had", but I think the silliest example of this is "do do". You may not have seen this but I assure you it's grammatically correct. Because while "do" can refer to a generic action, it can also be placed before a verb to emphasise it.

For example: "How do I know you’ll actually even pay me if I do do it?"

All this to say: English is a do do language.

i think it's fine to have criticised their decisions and be forgiving to their response. it's what they wanted. it isn't "crawling back to them". you can still have been a dedicated fan and felt this way. they even admitted they messed up a little bit wrt saying everyone could afford it.

but if you were horrible to them, like wishing their downfall, calling them stupid names, being outright racist and disgusting about steven, or basically anything beyond criticism of watcher.tv, i don't think you should come back.

i don't know how half of these people could call themselves fans; you didn't HAVE to follow them to watcher. so many people made out like it was a chore to support their videos and they "preferred buzzfeed stuff anyway". well. you didn't ever have to be here? they had set out their intentions for their content to be different to that of buzzfeed, had show trailers so you could decide if it's for you, and it's been 4 goddamn years!!!! why the hell are you still around if you don't like their stuff????

One thing that keeps confusing me is that they claim ghost files costs several hundreds of thousands of dollars per episode. I’ve tried to wrap my head around this ever since the announcement because flying a crew of 6 or so people out for two days and renting out the location COULD NOT be costing that much unless they’re either lying or blowing money on first class flights and expensive food/accommodations and even THEN do I not see them breaking 200k on a single episode. Dear lord hire an accountant I’m half convinced someone’s laundering money

so some things to clarify before i say anything:

watcher is NOT deleting their videos or archiving their old stuff on youtube, it's still going to be there for everyone to watch!!

they will upload new content on there but only the season premieres of their shows

i think a lot of people are forgetting that they're still, essentially, a small company with a small group of creatives trying to make a living

all this to say-- i get that it's frustrating and upsetting for a lot of people (and honestly myself included at first bc im going through some financial stuff rn) and i do think there should be a better middle ground for those who cannot afford this, especially for people in other countries.

but i think a lot of us are forgetting that they are independent content creators who have to support their own staff and crew, give them livable wages, while also finding ways to be sustainable for the future. they are not a Corporate Streaming Site. a bigger budget with better quality shows costs money unfortunately so they had to find a solution that was better for them. and it does suck because this ostracizes a lot of their audience (seen from most of the backlash). so that's why im hoping they eventually find something for those who can't be able to pay in the future since most of their audience seems like they can't afford it. which i totally get in this economy 😭

we also don't know how much content they'll put out on the streaming site- if it's gonna be daily content, weekly, etc, it might change from their usual youtube schedule.

i'm still excited for them!! this is a huge step forward for them especially since they can control whatever they produce now vs having to be controlled by a media conglomerate. and eventually, i hope i can support them. i'll still be here bc i love them. but i get why people are upset about this, but again, please don't spread misinformation!! their old stuff is still gonna be on youtube. so let's wait and see y'all 🙏🏽
