I have also felt very similar to you when you talk about the real world applications of this class. It seems that with every week and every reflection I have to do, I learn something about myself and my writing that I did not know before. This class has provided many of us with so many real world applications that will set us far above our other potential competitors for jobs.
Original Content Post week 15 (2 of 3)
What do you like most about your learning?
The thing I like most about learning is actually being able to apply it to the real world because it makes that knowledge more valuable. I personally feel that some college classes do not specifically relate to what your future career is, but this course is different. I will be able to apply the things I have learned in this class to my future career and everyday life as web writing is something we experience on a day to day basis.

Trying to get a revision process for yourself can be incredibly difficult. I have had to work through quite a few throughout the different kinds of writing that I have done as well. It is great to hear that you were able to find a revision process that works for you.
What are you most proud of with your writing process?
In my writing process, I’m most proud of my revision process. Even in the times when I have read back my work after submitting or uploading it and seeing errors in my writing, I am still proud of the times when I went back and read through some of my larger assignments, like my data analysis project in my final draft where I spent a lot of time reading and rereading the different sections and actively thinking about what I could add or take away or more somewhere else in order to improve the flow of my information

I completely agree with you in everything that you’ve said. Web writing is basically an infant when it comes to a career, but so many people have to do it. Learning new ways that we, as students, are able to excel and put ourselves in front of other when it comes to competing for jobs is now more essential than ever.
What do you like most about your learning?
Something I've enjoyed in particular about this course is that everything applies to real-world and professional applications, Especially with career paths that most definitely did not exist 15 years ago like content creation. The data analysis project really put that into a really good perspective of what it takes in order to regularly create content and ways to view if your content is working well or what needs to be adjusted in order to have more people view it and interact with it.

what do you like the most about your CL Reflection?
There is a good amount that I am liking about my content learning reflection so far. These are some pretty standard interview questions from what I have seen so far from places I have interviewed so I like that I already have a general basis of knowledge and how to respond. However, what I am liking most is how much I’ve seen my answers grow. Earlier in the semester they would not have been as in depth or as well answered. This class has taught me so much about web writing and I feel that I am ready to take on an interview for a job in this field.

what are you most proud of with your writing process?
I am not sure if there is one specific thing about my writing process that I am most proud of, but I am proud of how it has developed this semester. I feel that I have seen significant growth during this class. I have given more thought about my audience, how their knowledge will develop from my content, and how I can improve on those. I also feel that improving and thinking about new things, it has strengthened my process. My brainstorming, research, writing, and revision have all seen great improvements.

what do you like most about your learning?
Learning has always been so interesting to me. Looking back, what I want to learn about has changed drastically. I used to want to learn so much about history, then sports, now it’s movies and different learning different lore about different worlds like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. What I like most about learning is how much I can feel my knowledge being expanded. I feel that when I learn, especially when it is about things that I am passionate about, I tune in more and am active in the learning process.

what assignment questions do you have that will help you complete and revise successfully? @npfannen
Much of this is a text based assignment which is what I am good at. However, I am not the best when it comes to adding different elements. What have students added in the past that have made you go, “Wow, that is very creative?”

Having a show like The Big Bang Theory get cancelled would’ve set shockwaves through the sitcom world. I think with a situation like The Big Bang Theory went through, with its main actor no longer wanting to do the show, you don’t have much of a choice but to cancel the show
OCW 1/3 Week 14
The one TV show that I was a fan of especially when I was growing up that was cancelled was 'The Big Bang Theory' which was obviously a very successful TV show that spanned multiple seasons and even got a spin off which was called 'Young Sheldon'. Ultimately, the show ended because Jim Parsons whom you may know as his character Sheldon did not want to continue any further with the show. I was not too deeply invested but for some reason when shows end so abruptly it makes you as a fan think that the cast and crew could care less about the people who tune into every new episode.

When I first watched Game of Thrones, which was only a couple of years ago, I was constantly thinking, “How could they screw this up?” And surprisingly enough they did. I am not surprised that there was a bad reaction to the final season, but I am surprised about how many spinoff shows are being made and being watched. I would’ve thought that since the final season left such a bad taste in everyone’s mouth the Game of Thrones world would’ve died off.
OCW 2/3 Week 14
One of my favorite shows ever is Game of Thrones. It was a fantastic show and has one of the most loyal fanbases of any show that has ever existed in my opinion. The show was a massive success, however when the final season came around there were very unpopular decisions made that the fanbase did not like and it led to a lot of anger and angst among the fans. In fact, odds are if you ask someone that watched the show if you should watch it they will respond with "Watch it and do not watch the last season," or something along those lines.
The point being, show writers are tasked with very tough decisions and just as much as they have to manage the cast they have to manage the fans and I do believe fans have the right to be upset.

share a section of your Design Project content. What is the work of this sample? How can we help you revise? (repeatable x3)
Most of my project is just blank words with not much design, or eye grabbing details. This is something that I have struggled with so far this semester, but have somehow always found a way out. With a section like the one below, what are some good ways for me to include pictures, highlighted words, or other attention grabbing details?

share an example of your experience as a fan of a show that was cancelled. help us feel the feels
This will be my second Star Wars post of the week. The show, The Acolyte, was released over the summer and there were not really mixed reactions to it. I saw a couple of accounts on X/Twitter enjoying it and having a good time, but most people hated with everything that they were. I was kind of in the middle of these two. I liked some aspects of it, but certainly not all of it. This show was canceled after 1 season, and it left me with some unanswered questions, and me looking forward to the next season. Apparently there was low viewership for the show, but I believe that the main reason for the cancelation was due to the high amount of racism that would happen in comment sections of posts about the show, or racist YouTube videos or reviews about the show.

share an example of your favorite television show or movie - how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom?
One of my favorite shows ever is The Mandalorian. It is a show that is a spinoff of Star Wars, and it was the first big streaming show that was on Disney+. This show came out 5 years ago and it has 3 season so far. Unfortunately, many fans have begun to attack the creators, writers, and directors of the show for its lackluster third season, and even for some of season 2. They have become very angry and hateful, almost to the point where I’d rather not be associated with them. I do share some of their frustration, but not the hate that comes with it.

When people really like a creator, it can be hard for them to miss an episode. When a creator consistently provides good content and uploads regularly, it’ll build a very strong follower base. I also think people watch longer YouTube videos to be informed about a certain topic that they are interested in.
Appeal of long Youtube videos
explain the appeal of long youtube videos
The reason as to why some people like long youtube videos is that they often want to sit down for an extended period of time to enjoy their favorite creator. often times, this enjoyment is multitasked with another activity such as cooking/eating dinner. It can also be more relaxing of a pace, as compared to shorts and reels that are around 30 seconds, full 15 minute or greater videos have the necessary time to fully discuss topics without feeling overstimulating. So, from a viewer standpoint, it is nice to relax an fully envelop.
In terms of the creator, their reason lies in the strategy to pertain content in this long format style that pertains to a particular genre, which varies from one content creator to the next.

Subject matter that can take up exactly an hour is very hard to find, but I liked your points about the storytelling and almost teaser like ending of the episodes. I think people really dive into longer podcasts because of how long a drive can be. Most people have 20+ minute drives to work, so instead of music or the radio, they listen to podcasts.
Perfect podcasts
Explain the appeal of long podcasts (20+ minutes), why do audiences listen? How do the creators make choices to engage the audience?
For me, it takes at least 20+ minutes to truly get ingrained into a podcast. The first podcast I listened to, Serial, had episodes that were about an hour each. That was enough time to set up the episode, tell the story, and hint at the next episode. I found the hour length to be engaging and I couldn't wait to listen to the next episode.
Some podcasts are very interactive with the audience - answering questions or requests. Other podcasts bring on guests that the audience is excited about. Podcasters have to be great at setting and describing the story they are telling, as there are no visuals.

I completely agree with watching YouTube instead of a TV show when eating something. A TV show is usually either 30 minutes or 45, and it never takes me that long to eat. Doomscrolling is also very interesting to think about, but I think it’s something more people need to think about as they’re going through their daily lives and thinking about how they spend their day.
Original Post 3
explain the appeal of long youtube videos (10+ minutes), why do viewers watch? How do the creators make choices to engage the audience?
For me, I like to watch longer videos to relax. It's almost like watching a TV show but with less commitment. Most of the time I will look for 10-15 minute videos to watch while I eat lunch or dinner. It is a nice break from the short-form content of TikTok or Reels, and helps me stop doomscrolling. This is true for a lot of people, which is what makes longer-form content appealing to both creators and their audience.
