ok so like. Hook and Cora rode out the curse in their little bubble back in whereverthefuck. In this au, Hook finds out Rumple is planning on bringing magic back to the land without magic. which sort of defeats the purpose of going there. so he dips early and plans to get to the real world and just sneak in and kill the guy. however, it doesn't go to plan and he ends up loosing ALL his memories. like, no new curse memories, nothing. just a blanket slate. washes up in Boston Harbor where Emma finds him.

curse gives him a prosthetic hand tho and they identify the owner via the serial number as "killian jones". he's got no clue if that's right or not, but that's what the docs say, so ok. Meanwhile emma sticks with him cuz she knows that lost look in his eyes. the look that says he has no one to rely on or meet him halfway.

so they kinda stick together. eventually fall in looooooooove~. they form new memories together and killian learns all about this new world hes in. emma was amazed when he had no idea what a phone was but somehow new how to read a star chart when they went to the naval museum. THEN they get engaged!

and then henry shows up

and calls him Captain Hook
