★ wizard city - fairegrounds - colossus boulevard ★

these are three different backdrops found on the wizard101 website. theyre a fascinating little piece of graphic design to me, in the way that they arent actual areas in the game of course - instead being structures that are edited together, which then repeats a pattern for the entire webpage - this being most dream-like for the fairegrounds one, as the others can more or less pass as normal wizard city areas. i also enjoy how the sky goes from cloudy day to starry night and it goes up the page.

★ magical witches - bandai 1998 ★

in 1998 - a year after the first series of digital monsters (digimon) virtual pet toys were released - bandai designed a series of book shaped witch themed toys, magical witches! (マジカルウィッチーズ Majikaru Wicchīzu)

character designer watanabe kenji, who also did work on tamagotchi and digimon, was involved in the development of these toys.

interestingly, when digimon evolved into a whole franchise, the setting of magical witches became tied into it as well, with witchelny being said to be another digital world and the one that wizardmon (and its rival - witchmon) is originally from. the magic in witchelny is equivalent to advanced coding languages, of which wizardmon mastered the sorcery of fire and earth, while witchmon mastered wind and water.

im a big wizardmon fan SO finding out about magical witches a few years ago was a treat for me. im rather fond of them and their art direction, and how it even got tied into digimon, it appeals specifically to me. i like it a lot.

colossus boulevard - classic

in an attempt to deal with the ghosts roaming unicorn way, professor lydia greyrose sent in the highly destructive gobblers to take care of the issue. once summoned however, the creatures refused to leave, and eventually took over colossus boulevard. and thus merle ambrose calls upon the help of the young wizard yet again to assist with another bubbling problem, this time around requiring the help of mindy pixiecrown to reclaim this snowy street
