Been listening to Pearl Jam’s more underrated studio albums lately. Started with No Code, then Binaural and today Riot Act.
Riot Act is such a freaking good album and I don’t think it gets enough credit or recognition aside from in hardcore fan circles. It’s also extremely nostalgic to me. There are both fond and bittersweet memories associated with this album.
Right off the bat, Can’t Keep is such an addictive singalong. Save You rocks your socks off! Love Boat Captain is simply epic and makes me think of 9/11 sometimes. I Am Mine is one of their greatest songs ever. Thumbing My Way is so gorgeous in its sparseness. Amazing lyrics here! “All the rusted signs we ignore throughout our lives, choosing the shiny ones instead… No matter how cold the winter, there’s a springtime again… there’s no wrong or right but I’m sure there’s good and bad…” You Are is so unique in its sound. Green disease is reminiscent of Versus. Bushleaguer is just so early 2000s when the worst thing we could complain about was George Dubya, not knowing how much the situation would deteriorate… So many great songs! It’s an album very of its time.

Mr. Big has a new album out. Wow! Did not expect that. Granted, I’ve not kept in touch with what the band was up to all these years… I know they kind of bombed in the US after that one hit “To Be With You” in the early 90s and then exploded in popularity in Japan for many many years. Apparently, after a hiatus and 2 reunions they’re back with their 10th album now titled Ten. Good for them!
PS: Personal favourite Mr Big songs: Nothing But Love, Goin Where the Wind Blows and To Be With You, of course.

This is the region of Europe I would most love to visit, whenever I can afford to. So much history! Confluence of eastern and western ideals. Different political ideologies clashing. So fascinating! I would rather go here first than London or Paris.

Every time my wife says to our 3 year old “criss cross apple sauce”, to correct her floor sitting posture, I can’t help but think of these boys…

Happy Friday! 🥰
I feel like restarting my microblogging habit and I will (hopefully) continue doing so from today onwards.
What’s on my mind today??
- Stephen Colbert is hilarious as always. Loved his late show episode from yesterday!
- Morgan Spurlock of Super Size Me fame (from the early 2000s) is dead at 53. Wow!
- Been listening to some excellent podcasts on Spotify lately. History of North Korea from Wiser World. Conspiracy Theories from Parcast. And since the last few days: Adolf Hitler rise and downfall, the early years. Superb!!

Been listening to this excellent compilation of B sides and rare outtakes from Def Leppard. Really enjoyable listen for a fan of 80s/90s guitar oriented rock like me! For some reason, I never gave this a listen until yesterday. Only knew the ballads Two Steps Behind and Miss You in a Heartbeat till now. But this is so awesome! Desert Song sounds like Alice in Chains honestly. There’s way more than just 2 mellow mid-tempo love songs over here. Glad I finally went ahead and gave this one a spin.

Today, Tuesday August 22nd was Tori Amos’ 60th birthday!! Can’t believe it. 60!! She was my teenage crush and I’ve been following her music since the 90s. Listened to her beautiful pandemic album today, Ocean to Ocean.

Today was Indian Independence Day. Here’s a superb take on Vande Mataram from A. R. Rahman from the 90s.

Amazing beautiful fusion of 60s psychedelia and Indian music from the late 90s. Been reminiscing and listening to Kula Shaker again over the past week. This album was quite good, almost reaching the dizzying heights of debut ‘K’. It’s too bad it tanked.
