It  wasn't  𝙴𝙽𝚃𝙸𝚁𝙴𝙻𝚈  her  fault.  But  here  she  was  ,  nursing  a  wound  while  staring  at  the  lecture  they  received  when  things  went  𝚆𝚁𝙾𝙽𝙶.  They  didn't  blame  the  Widow  ,  she  was  just  following  orders  on  this  mission  that  was  a  failure  from  the  start.  Anya's  purpose  wasn't  to  interject  their  option  …  Their  purpose  was  to  𝙵𝙾𝙻𝙻𝙾𝚆  𝙾𝚁𝙳𝙴𝚁𝚂.

Orders  that  left  her  having  to  think  on  he  feet.  Under  𝙼𝙾𝚂𝚃  circumstances  ,  they  were  able  to  get  out  of  it  without  so  much  as  a  𝙼𝙰𝚁𝙺.  Other  times  they  weren't  so  lucky.  Times  such  as  this.  Shooting  Illyana  a  glare  ,  they  finished  with  securing  the  bandage  ,  before  leaning  against  the  wall  with  a  𝚆𝙸𝙽𝙲𝙴.   ❝  Be  my  guest  if  this  is  such  an  inconvenience  for  you.  If  I  hadn't  thought  fast  we'd  be  in  a  worst  situation  than  we  are  now.  ❞   They  weren't  looking  for  a  thank  you  ,  but  they  were  just  as  𝙿𝙸𝚂𝚂𝙴𝙳  at  this  mission  going  south  as  she  was.

❛ get up. ❜ the widow will not waste any more time. the plan was poorly organized and hastily made. it was no wonder that their assassination attempt on the president went awry. luckily, a true saving grace, illyana had found an empty building for them to duck into while she came up with their next move.

Of  course  she  would  say  something  𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄  𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓.  Of  course  the  answer  wouldn't  be  that  simple.  Nothing  in  life  ever  really  was.  They  knew  the  cold  hard  truth  of  that.  So  many  times  they  sat  up  𝐖𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆  what  was  so  special  about  them  ,  that  death  wasn't  one  of  the  basic  rights  they  would  get  to  keep.  Was  everything  going  to  just  be  ripped  away  from  her?

There's  a  𝐒𝐀𝐑𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐂  look  on  her  face  when  that  answer  finally  comes  ,  before   a   𝐒𝐂𝐎𝐅𝐅  &  roll  of  her  eyes  at  the  offer  of  some  form  of  𝐒𝐎𝐋𝐈𝐂𝐄.  It  always  seemed  to  boil  down  to  some  sort  of  purpose.  They  never  asked  to  have  some  sort  of  special  purpose  ,  &  yet  𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄  𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘  𝐀𝐑𝐄.stuck  in  this  world  that  has  done  nothing  for  them  ,  except  chew  them  up  ,  &  spit  them  out.   ❝  I  keep  hearin  that  ,  ❞   They   muse   with   a   𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓  look   in   their   eyes.   A   disfigured  form  due  to  the  curse  that  seemed  to  be  the  𝐎𝐍𝐋𝐘  thing  that  couldn't  be  ripped  away  from  them.   ❝  For  once  I  wish  someone  would  give  me  a  clue.  ❞

"Darling," The words rolling out of the redhead's mouth were soft, yet almost daunting. The scenery seemed more amusing since both women were seemingly the same age, yet both of them were so much older than what their shells revealed. The entity occupying Sophie's once human body was older than time itself. And Anya? Well, as the woman said herself - she lived many lives before.

"Wish I had the words of comfort but you do not belong to my realm. Trust me when I say, I'd welcome you with open arms. But Life seems to claim you every time. It seems your purpose in this world, in this fragile universe was not fulfilled just yet."

Anya  had  never  been  one  to  𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐓𝐄  someone  who  didn't  value  time  &  punctuality.  All  her  life  she  had  been  raised  to  be  early  ,  &  nothing  else.  Anything  short  of  that  could  show  weakness  ,  something  that  they  couldn't  very  much  allow  in  this  line  of  work.

They  were  always  𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐘  ,  &  they  were  always  𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐄𝐃.  Finding   someone  she  didn't  know  in  her  club  was  interesting  enough  ,  but  business  she  didn't  know  about  …  that  seemed  to  be  𝐔𝐍𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐑𝐘  in  Anya's  eyes  …  That  was  something  else  entirely.

Her  hand  𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐃  the  glass  of  vodka  in  her  hands  ,  listening  to  the  story  before  arching  a  brow  curiously.   ❝  A  ghost  here?  The  owner  sure   will  be  interested  to  hear  about  that.  ❞   Not  knowing  who  he  was  ,  it  was  𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄  that  she  would  play  he  cards  close  to  her  chest.  He  didn't  need  to  know  she  was  the  owner  yet  …  so  he  didn't.

He hated being blown off.

When he was a child James always chided time is money. It made sense, but the words were repeated so frequently that they stopped having meaning. Time is money. Everything was money, though. Transportation and setting, the people, the deal ... why was time any more or less important? Now it made sense. Now he understood why James always berated that very fact into his skull. Time was money, and his was being fucking wasted.

One final check of his watch and Esmé called it. 5 minutes was rude but fashionable. 10 was sloppy. 15 was an intention of never showing up in the first place. Another name off of his list. To be blacklisted in the black market was not good, but so many people did it. He needed to get a better assistant.

So he'd nabbed the bartender's attention and ordered the top shelf cognac to stifle down just a touch of the anger that made his stomach knot itself. (In truth he was always some level of angry, but it was second nature to hide it. Shit like this just made him boil over.) Two sips in, a lull between music, and he heard the voice.

He savored the flavor of the cognac a moment, let it warm the back of his throat before he answered with as much patience (for the situation) as he could muster. All in all it was easy.

"First time. Likely last. I was meeting someone, and unfortunately they stood me up."

His expression suggested something flickering behind green eyes and Esmé cleared his throat.

"Such is the way of things."

The  panic  was  something  they  𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐃  when  their  half  sister  came  to.  That  was  normal  when  you  were  knocked  out.  Something  she  had  every  intention  of  asking  about  as  soon  as  they  were  𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐄  that  she  was  okay.  She  looked  fine  so  far  ,  &  was  speaking  well  enough.  Now  all  she  needed  to  do  was  keep  her  calmed  down.

❝  It's  okay  ..  It's  okay  ..  You're  at  my  place  ,  &  you're  safe.  ❞   That  wasn't  going  to  mean  much  more  like  than  not  ,  but  it  was  something  they  had  to  at  least  try.   ❝  Just  take  a  few  deep  breaths  ,  &  tell  me  what  happened.  ❞   To  the  best  of  Anya's  knowledge  ,  they  had  come  by  to  see  her  ,  only  to  find  her  𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐃  𝐎𝐔𝐓.  Not  very  reassuring  to  the  elder  sister  ,  they  opted  to  take  her  back  to  her  place  instead.

A  normal  life  had  been  something  Anya  always  𝚃𝙷𝙾𝚄𝙶𝙷𝚃  to  be  just  out  of  reach  for  her.  Something  she  would  always  want  from  afar  ,  but  never  quite  be  able  to  obtain  no  matter  how  hard  they  𝚁𝙴𝙰𝙲𝙷𝙴𝙳.  Marcus  had  been  something  they  didn't  see  coming  ,  &  had  even  told  herself  at  first  was  a  𝙱𝙰𝙳  𝙸𝙳𝙴𝙰.  But  Marcus  was  as  persistent  as  they  could  be  at  times  ,  &  that  had  ended  up  working  in  his  advantage.

It  wasn't  strictly  speaking  𝙽𝙾𝚁𝙼𝙰𝙻  ,  but  it  was  pretty  darn  close  in  cases  like  this.  She  caught  sight  of  him  gazing  up  at  her  ,  &  couldn't  help  the  whine  that  sounded  when  he  made  her  think  about  something  other  than  what  he  was  doing.  Next  came  a  𝙲𝙷𝚄𝙲𝙺𝙻𝙴  ,  as  one  of  their  hands  gripped  a  little  harder  into  his  hair.   ❝  You  first  …  THEN  waffles…  ❞

a  grin  appeared  on  marcus's  face,  seeing  anya  respond  to  him  pleasing  her.  this  moment  was  extremely  intimate  for  them  both.  this  was  their  way  of  starting  their  days  off  right.  marcus  would  lift  his  face  for  a  brief  moment  for  a  breath  of  fresh  air.  "  I  don't  think  you  missed  much..  but  I  wanted  to  ask  if  you'd  like  pancakes  or  waffles  for  breakfast  or  would  you  like  me  for  breakfast?  "

as  he  went  back  down  to  please  anya,  he  flicked  his  tongue  with  precision,  reaching  areas  where  he  could  please  her.  each  flick  was  passionate,  demonstrating  his  effectiveness  as  a  partner.  he  laid  his  brown  hues  on  her  as  he  watched  her,  feeling  him  please  her  as  she  deserved  to  be.  "  my,  my.  we  definitely  don't  need  coffee  this  morning  after  what  we're  getting  up  to.  "

There  was  an  𝙸𝙽𝚃𝙴𝙽𝚂𝙴  glare  back  at  the  other  young  woman  ‘  @dcxrouges  ’.  All  too  often  Anya  had  been  compared  to  a  rabid  dog  ,  &  that  had  been  based  entirely  on  past  experience.  From  a  young  age  ,  Anya  was  known  to  act  𝙵𝙴𝚁𝙰𝙻  when  backed  into  a  corner.  Which  was  just  about  any  time  someone  made  her  feel  uneasy.

&  all  of  this  felt  𝚅𝙴𝚁𝚈  𝚄𝙽𝙴𝙰𝚂𝚈  to  them.

That  had  to  be  the  point  of  all  this.  At  least  ,  that  was  what  Anya  𝙰𝚂𝚂𝚄𝙼𝙴𝙳  to  be  the  case.  So  much  of  this  place  was  centered  around  breaking  someone  down  ,  rather  than  𝙷𝙴𝙻𝙿𝙸𝙽𝙶  them  in  any  sort  of  way.
