The second your alarm bell rang, you cursed soccer as a sport itself. It was only six am, and you already had to make your way to the game you had next town over. Big one too, it’ll determine if you go to nationals. But for a moment, you sulked in the sheer grogginess.

The short car ride to school was a blur, and the second you stepped out you heard a really fucking loud speaker raking through the parking lot. Jackie Taylor’s car, but what’s new?

“Jesus, turn it down. Way too fuckin’ early.” A husky voice you could recognize everywhere called out behind you, approaching you and making a small smile appear on your face.

Your best friend to the world, and girlfriend in your own four walls, Natalie Scatorccio. Somehow, even at this diabolical time she looked dazzling. Though maybe that was the butterflies.

“And good morning to you. Gotcha a drink.” She said, handing you a warm paper cup as she sipped on her own.

“Thank you, Nat. Needed it. You excited?” You asked in a low, tired tone, that you could tell she found attractive.

“Yeah, sure. Nationals would be so cool if we went, I’ve never been to Seattle. Or on a plane.” Nat added, making you huff out a chuckle.

“Lovebirds! Time to go!” Mari called out to the two of you. And yeah, they had their suspicions. You acted even closer than Tai and Van.

Sharing a sigh, you loaded your bags into the trunk before getting inside the small bus, inevitably sitting next to each other.

Not even ten minutes into the ride, your eyes felt heavy. You couldn’t help yourself from resting your head on Nat’s shoulder, and she stiffened up as soon as you did.

It’s not that she didn’t want you to - far from it, in fact. She feared that if she were to move an inch, you’d straighten back up. And she didn’t want that. What she wanted, embarrassingly all the goddamn time, was to feel your warmth and presence. To hear you talk about themes you’re passionate about, and leave those cheesy, yet loving little kisses to the tip of her nose.

It was all she needed to keep herself grounded. As much as she loved other ways of showing intimacy, Nat discovered just how much she liked having a person. Her person. And she never would’ve picked anyone else.

Finally gathering immense courage, she wrapped her arm around your shoulder, pulling you in closer. This girl would sew herself in this position permanently, if it were possible. Leaning the side of her head against yours, she hummed in satisfaction, letting her hand linger next to yours. Not over. That would not seem like two friends napping.

“You’re so soft.” You whispered mindlessly, feeling her lips curve against your hair.

“You are too, cheesy asshole.” Natalie hummed out, bumping her nose with your temple playfully.

“Can we stay like this? I’m cold.” You said softly. She put her leather jacket over you the very second you told her that.

“For sure. I’m getting out for the smoke break though.”

“Deal.”
