i havent watched yellowjackets yet but im very intrigued by the fandoms ability to ship every single one of those girls with one another and also provide irrefutable evidence for each pairing. like im convinced by every single gifset. ill be damned if those two girls arent in love. which two girls am i talking about? doesnt matter. god bless

jackie telling nat she admires the way she is “completely herself” when nat had something jackie didn’t: adaptation.

when we see nat taking the role as the hunter, we also see jackie failing to hold the gun properly and missing her opportunity to prove herself.

when nat takes travis to the plane and they take too long, jackie is the one confronting nat. nat also tells jackie she is jealous, but not for the right reasons.

of course jackie always noticed she was missing something to be the perfect leader when nat didn't even think of herself as an important piece of the group. nat was willing to sacrifice herself out there in the wilderness to give the girls something to eat.

and we see how this develops more in doomcoming, when lottie tells jackie “you don’t matter anymore” but it’s nat that finds her and let’s her out.

it’s crazy to think nat was always destined to be the real leader, to take jackie’s place when she was gone and eventually mean more to the girls as the antler queen than the captain of their team could ever try.

but it’s nat who takes jackie’s bones to the plane. it’s nat who tries to put jackie to rest and not playing or toying with her death more than they could.

but it’s also nat who mourns jackie’s death because she feels some guilt, she wasn’t able to have enough food for the girls to eat and it’s nat who thanks to jackie for her sacrifice, for taking care of her girls, for let them consume her.

then the wilderness takes care of nat, picks nat as her favorite because she was always so completely herself.

nat and jackie’s relationship drives me NUTS! you’re telling me that nat was the one who buried her bones? the one who wrapped her so delicately in cloth and carried her across feet of snow just to make sure she’s at rest? the one who sat down with her in the wreckage of the plane and give her the most meaningful sendoff she could’ve gotten? nat didn’t NEED jackie the way those girls did. they way they wanted her was carnivorous and clinical, one-sided. they ripped away her sanctity, her autonomy, her literal flesh. they feasted on her and tore her from shred to shred because even in death, jackie gives. nat didn’t NEED to put jackie at rest, but she did because she knows what’s it’s like. after all, isn’t nat also just a pile of bones in the middle of the forest, just giving and giving and giving? nat didn’t NEED to give jackie that good-bye, but she did cause she’s a giver and a lover and she knows that’s going to kill her the way it killed jackie.

one of my favorite things in fiction will always be characters who are thematic parallels for each other. narrative foils. two sides of the same coin. exact opposite outcomes of the same situation. they look at each other and see their own souls reflected back at them

thinking about it and natalie scatorccio really never caught a break in her life, huh? grew up poor in an abusive family and tried to kill her father to escape it only to fail and watch her father accidentally kill himself. plane crashed in the canadian wilderness and she had to eat her narrative foil/homoerotic frenemy to survive. and she was like “i wish i had died instead of you” and everyone else was like “good news, natalie! you get to die now! :)” and hunted her for sport the most dangerous game style. and then her boyfriend’s little brother who had previously been missing for months helped her escape but HE died in the process and you guessed it! she ate him! and everyone else’s logic is like “we didn’t succeed in killing you so now you get to be our leader” which btw natalie does NOT want but she does it anyways because the wilderness chose or whatever. and like ten minutes into this newfound leadership, the cabin that they’ve all been living in burns down (presumably due to the coach she befriended lighting it on fire). anyways they eventually get rescued and this poor girl becomes addicted to every substance under the sun. spends years miserable and in and out of rehab. her boyfriend dies and it seems like a suicide but turns out another homoerotic frenemy of hers accidentally killed him. and natalie decides that this is her sign to kill herself but the homoerotic frenemy previously mentioned kidnaps her and takes away her fun punk clothing and puts her in a purple dress. and she decides, for the first time in her life, that she doesn’t want to die and immediately gets killed by yet ANOTHER homoerotic frenemy only for it to be called a drug overdose. wtf are fans supposed to do with that arc?? what’s the message?? don’t have homoerotic frenemies? because that’s what i’m taking away from it
