✎: Growing up, did your muse have a teacher or mentor figure? What was their relationship like?

As a child, it was her mother. When she got a little older and began to explore a mindset outside that of her family, it was The Notorious RBG. Liz has had the good fortune of meeting her once and had to go to the bathroom to cry afterward.

Pretty macabre but I feel like she’d probably go see her son and make sure he knew she loved him, take a sip of her favourite drink, then go somewhere that would mean her son didn’t need to find her body and end it then and there. Preferably somewhere pretty where she could see the stars (this bitch loves stars).

If Liz knew she was going to die in 24 hours, she wouldn’t want to spend 24 hours waiting for death to come. She’d just spend her last moments with her son (until it seemed like she should leave) trying to make up for being a drunken shit mess then she’d go somewhere she felt comfortable and die. However, that being said, if her son didn’t know/believe she was going to die in 24hrs then she’d just wait it out to avoid making him feel like he was burdened with her death.

❤: What is your muse’s perfect romantic date?

Liz is a simple woman. A perfect date for her would just be stimulating conversation (where her partner viewed her as a an equal), possibly a dinner, and the chance to go look at the stars. I don’t feel like she’d be into anything too ‘exciting’ nor would she want to sleep with the person if it was a first date, she’d just want to really get to know them and feel comfortable in their company. She’s not too classically romantic so she probably wouldn’t want chocolates or flowers or anything like that but rather, for her partner to share a hipflask with her whilst they looked at the sky together and talked about their lives.

His expression remained cheeky and vibrant in the face of his morning sleepiness. He appreciated her vibe and place in politics, albeit he didn’t pay too much attention. After all, he had been a rising star among the Dems too. “Yeah,” Gabriel replied, slowly turning the plate his pastry sat in. “Quite the change, I’ll admit. Being hassled all the time was why I took a break–” a tilt of the head and and lips pursed, “–but I get to hassle others now. But come on, doesn’t serving your country really get to your soul?” With a fist to his chest, the hyperbole made the sarcasm drip heavier. 

The fact that Gabriel’s smile was unfaltering couldn’t help but annoy Liz slightly. Still, given the man’s position, she could hardly afford to let that irritation on her face. She laughed at his question, as if on command, and took another sip of her drink (as to delay for long enough to allow time to come up with a reply). 

“It does when I’m left alone to do it.”

×   upset my character

There’s a man who worked for the Democrats in the Texan Senate for a while when Liz was minority leader who really upset her. He was generally sexist, constantly undercutting her and implying she was only in her position on account of her gender and the like. It wasn’t so much the words that upset her (although they did) but rather, the behaviour of her coworkers in ignoring it because it came from a male ‘feminist’ from within the party rather than from the Republicans. She managed to get him fired (for unrelated reasons) after a number of months but it upset her to have a chunk of her time as leader having to deal with both her and her female members of staff being constantly undermined by a junior staffer who seemed to have more respect from her coworkers than she did.

“Don’t know if it’s the alcohol or what but I always feel like it’s more warmin’ on my insides.” Liz laughed, aware of how strange what she was saying sounded but continuing regardless. “Reminds me of bein’ back home for the holidays. My husband used to make the best eggnog and the one from the coffee shop on 3rd tastes just like it. I’d drink it all year round if I could.”

“Also, my machine is good but I always find myself cravin’ a change by Christmas time, you know? Hot tea just ain’t that tasty to me.”

Despite eating the flaky goodness that was a fresh croissant — and since they were in the congress canteen, those adjectives were debatable but Gabriel had a good enough imagination to accept the pastry, but not enough to accept the morning. “I’m good on the carollers and Christianity though,” Gabriel replied, the next with a chuckle. “But come on Ackerman, we have a whole year of heartwarming politics.” 

Liz rolled her eyes, a shake of the head offered as she took another sip from the (sadly, alcohol free) coffee that had come to replace her eggnog once more now that the festive season was over. 

“If y’all wanna call this place heartwarming, I ain’t gonna stop you. Whatever helps you get through the day. Suppose you ain’t being bothered by as many lobbyists no more now that you work for the president.”

4. a trait they’re ashamed of

liz is pretty ashamed of the way she is generally at the moment but most of all, she’s ashamed of her tendency to neglect those important to her. this is something she’s always done to an extent (getting preoccupied with work and ignoring her husband, etc) but it’s been a trait worsened hugely by her husband’s death (especially with regard to her son who gets little to no attention from his mother these days) 

quite often, she’ll try make up for this with big gestures and get frustrated when it doesn’t have the intended effect. she does realize this probably isn’t the best way to make up for things but has no idea where else to start
