The Transformers One official trailer is due to come out today (18/04/24), no idea when or what time zone it's gonna be released in (probably USA) but looking forward to that

I haven't seen/heard much about the film yet, so I'm excited to see what the first trailer is gonna be like!

Hopefully it gives us some actual good looks at the main characters, it's always a bummer when a trailer is mostly second-long flashes of the actual movie in between taglines being read lmao

But ayyyyy Transformers One!!

Update on health: Finished antibiotics, POTS acting up, waiting on medication approval for another thing too, so in the meantime I'm in bed with my Russian language books and Ratchet lmao

My brain isn't retaining a whole lot upon trying to review, but I have fallen asleep three times to a Russian guy repeating various directions to the Moscow Metro

Ratchet is here and most of the time I'm using this figure to hold my emergency asthma inhaler so I don't lose it in my many blankets lol

The eggshell blue of the building is so striking, and I love the gorgeous gravestones and the sculptural works. So pristine!!!

When I feel better, I'll try to share some more pics of North East England, there's a church and cathedral near me which might be fun to compare in terms of the architecture style! :D There's also a historic monastery nearby but I need to figure out how to get to it LOL, soon as I do I'll see if I can get any good pics.

but in the meantime I wrote this Ira/Isami fic for Bravern, because I've been checking the Japanese tags over on Twitter and holy shit the Ira/Isami tag (イライサ) is pretty good right now

I think I'm the first person to write anything for this ship in English???? So I'm not sure how much people care about this ship yet, but I find it fascinating and hopefully someone else will too, lmao

Spoilers for Bravern episode 12, but otherwise there's nothing explicit in it at all, so if you might be interested, there you go!!! Enjoy! :)

SPOILERS FOR BRAVERN EP 12 BELOW

What made me cry the absolute hardest in this episode is realising that Superbia died in a posture that could still provide Lulu with cover in the battlefield.

His arms are splayed out, not as if to catch himself, but like he's making a half-circle with his arms.

We later see Lulu in this scene take cover behind Superbia's curved arm, his hand open and on it's side to make a wall/shield.

Even in his moment of death, he thought about how he could still protect Lulu.

He died in an honourable way that fulfilled his desire to die pridefully; Proud of his efforts against Ira, and proud of Lulu for continuing to live-- He had faith and trust in her to know to use his body, to keep fighting even despite the grief.

I think he didn't crystallise when he died like the other Death Drives because he had felt the connection of courage and love via Lulu. He had something to anchor himself to the world physically.

He may have lost his outright desire to die, but accepted it in the end anyway.

His desire to go on protecting Lulu and helping her to continue the fight overruled his original death drive; His pride for Lulu overruled his desire to seek his own prideful end, and as a result, he was able to achieve both of his desires:

Die with his pride intact, in a respectable way, and to continue to assist Lulu for as long as possible.

He knew he would die. He ejected Lulu immediately, specifically to prevent Ira's killing blow from cutting through her pilot pod inside of his chest.

So, he didn't crystallise even though he achieved his desired death, because he still had something to live for.

It was no longer about the satisfaction of dying with his pride, but it was about the satisfaction of seeing through Lulu's goal of saving the world -- In an earlier episode, when he and Lulu successfully merge, he says something to the effect of "your desires are now mine".

I just really fucking love Superbia and this show hit me right in the fucking heart.

This is honest to god my Anime of the Year, and it's only March

I'm looking forward to the final episode tonight, sad about it because this show has been FANTASTIC, but here's hoping we continue to get Bravern in some form going forward.

I don't think they expected it to be as massively popular as it has been, somehow, even though it's an Obari Robot Show and that's always top tier, so hopefully the positive audience reception encourages them to keep making more Bravern media in some way!

I'm also glad to see so many Transformers and Gundam fans coming together to enjoy the series, it's been such a great time watching each episode weekly with such a huge online international crowd of fans, and I haven't had this much of a good time with an anime (watching along live) since Ghost in the Shell was on air and everyone was speculating about the Laughing Man plot together.

Absolute 10/10, if someone out there still hasn't seen Bravern (Bang Brave Bang Bravern), the final episode is coming out today Thu 28/03/24, and I highly recommend you give it a chance.

If you've been waiting for it to finish before watching it all in one go, I hope you have a great time with it too!

Genuinely haven't been this sad that a show is ending in a long time, but the fandom is already massively strong and reception in Japan has been so positive that it's hard to believe it'll simply die out after this cour/season is over.

What a fucking great show.

I have so much to say about this one scene. This whole episode has SO MUCH to talk about.

But like, I wonder how much of Bravern's behaviour here is at least partly the remnants of Cunus within Bravern's personality acting on Smith's feelings.

Cunus represents lust, which can be related to desire. Smith desires Isami, and even if that desire wasn't perhaps necessarily romantic before, Cunus may interpret it as such-- Cunus was prone to fixation, and Bravern is fixated on Isami.

So because Bravern is a combination of Smith's drive to save the world specifically with Isami as his best friend/only acceptable pilot, and Cunus was/is driven by lust, these two overlapping desires combine within Bravern to result in, well, love.

I mean, Bravern yelling "I love you" while very intentionally getting Isami underneath him on the beach feels like a Cunus-influenced move on some level, similar to his Cunus-like dialogue all the way back in the earlier episodes where he even makes similar physical gestures to Cunus when talking about what it feels like when Isami pilots him.

Smith may on some level recognise the setting as classically romantic, which might subconsciously fuel any lingering influence from Cunus within Bravern.

So Smith does love Isami, but that love was refined/evolved/expressed more directly by the influence of Cunus within Bravern to result in a whole bunch of fanfiction that I am fully looking forward to reading and/or writing soon, lmao.

I don't know, I just got done with a long shift and I'm so tired, but jesus christ I love this show and this giant gay robot
