sorry if i'm gonna be quiet for a while. my country recently introduced laws that make it so that in order to use social media to the fullest (not being able to view ns/fw content and in a few cases, not even having access to dms), i HAVE to give the sites my id/face scan.

it goes into effect july 25th. it'll probably effect here too, since this place allows mature content (tho not full on ns/fw)

i'm very distressed about it bc i might end up not even being able to talk to my internet friends. i don't really have any irl ones

Shang Qinghua fixes everything at the tender age of 10

Au where Shang Qinghua doesn’t have a system and decides to take out the plot by its roots, starting with Shen Jiu, then going to Tianlang jun, then finally moving far away and living in peace

The only problem is that he’s physically only a year older than Shen Jiu and while he not so luckily didn’t have parents to stop him from trying, he didn’t think he could break Shen Jiu out of the Qiu manor without getting caught and becoming a slave himself, but with every passing year Shen Jiu’s trauma grows deeper and more difficult to heal and he doesn’t want to just sit and wait until Shen Jiu murders his master and burns everything down!

And so he decides to play the long game. He moves to the town closest to the Qiu manor (not to difficult to do without parents or belongings to move) at around 9 and starts essentially stalking Shen Jiu so he can pretend to run into the boy so they can talk and he can eventually earn the boys trust

He finds the best times to find him alone outside are when he’s running errands or cleaning his wounds (which he has to do outside so that Qiu Huaitang doesn’t see). Shang Qinghua tries to find medicine for Shen Jiu but cant find any that are easy to steal so he settles for helping Shen Jiu with his bandages except he had never bandaged a wound before and he didn’t want to make the wound worse so he ties it way to loose and Shen Jiu has to redo it. This confuses the hell out of Shen Jiu who’s like “why did you offer to help if you don’t know how?” And Shang Qinghua’s like “well I didn’t want to not help! We street rats need to look out for eachother,” and Shen Jiu looks at him like he’s insane before leaving.

Shang Qinghua continues to try and help, or at least be moral support, and also starts joining Shen Jiu at the markets and helps him find the items on his list. This is something he can finally actually do because he memorized the layout of the market out of pure boredom (all the vendors hate him but they’ve never caught him stealing so they don’t put in the effort to keep throwing him out) Shen Jiu is convinced there’s some ulterior motive, like maybe this boy wants something from the Qiu’s and wants to get in through their slave, so Shang Qinghua makes sure to stress how boring being a street rat is without company and how he’d do anything to have someone to talk to or even just pass the time with.

It takes about a year for Shang Qinghua to first suggest they run. “We can find a cultivation sect- I know Cang Qiong takes anyone with potential! They don’t do background checks either!” Shen Jiu looks at him like he’s an idiot

“You think I wouldn’t have tried that already? The Qiu’s have eyes all over this town and the surrounding ones. I wouldn’t make it far and they’d notice quickly because I’m never allowed out for to long,”

So Shang Qinghua is like “oh. Okay so can’t we just kill them then?” thinking he’ll just speed up the plot in that case. Shen Jiu is horrified, having thought Shang Qinghua had somehow been left unmarred by violence despite being a street rat- he knew how dumb that sounded but no one who’s been beaten approaches the slave of a Rich lord! But it turns out this guy has got either be dumb or worse, a psychopath whose killed before and is willing to kill again.

Shang Qinghua is quick to backtrack after seeing Shen Jiu’s face but after that night Shen Jiu can’t stop thinking about it. Because what if they did kill Qiu Jianluo, what then? Qiu Huaitang was convinced Shen Jiu was free so without Qiu Jianluo he could flee without issue. Sure his slave contract would probably be inherited by one of Qiu Jianluo’s family members since Qiu Huaitang was to young but there would be a window where no one would look for him. And if he faked his death no one would ever look for him.

A few weeks later he comes back to Shang Qinghua and they form a plan quite close to what happens in cannon. They wait until Qiu Huaitang is out then Shen Jiu will kill Qiu Jianluo and let his body on fire, if there is nothing but ashes left in the room they’d have no way to tell if Shen Jiu’s body was in there, then he’d grab steal some money and valuables, put them in a basket, walk out of the manor like he was headed to the market, and meet with Shang Qinghua outside where they would start walking to Cang Qiong.

It takes a while and they have to stay in a neighboring town until the entrance test, but they do make it there alive and better, they find Yue Qi! Shen Jiu holds nothing against him since he was pretty clearly trying to save him by working to get a sword and things get a fairytale ending, this post was to long

Unless you want to hear about Shang Qinghua trying to convince more mentally stable versions of Shen Jiu and Yue Qi to help him Su Xiyan and Tianlang Jun but that’d be another post entirely

they just don't make characters like jon archivist sims. he spends an entire season having a forty episode long delusional breakdown and that's only maybe the third or fourth worst period of time in his life. he gets intervened on twice. he gets kidnapped thrice. during one of those kidnappings he spends a month tied to a chair getting forcibly moisturized by a plastic ringmistress mannequin and no one notices. he fully dies for six months but gets up again when a friendly grim reaper gives his unbreathing body a pep talk. he spends several episodes at the start of the final season so depressed that it's unclear if he even moves for multiple days in a row. the basis for his magic powers is that he is so traumatized that he begins to need continuous further trauma in order to live, which gives him the ability to explode people with his mind. he spends about fifty seconds at the top of an episode self-harming directly into a tape recorder, which is not even the most fucked up thing to happen to him that episode. he finally cried on audio for the first time in the penultimate ep and the only reaction I saw for several days after was wildly enthusiastic cheering. he's missing two ribs and he's at least 80% scar tissue by volume and the only canon information we have about his appearance is that he looks terrible at all times.

D: Not my favorite. I avoid it if I can, but it won’t necessarily put me off reading something.

Weilan Appreciation Post: Vol 3

People still tend to lump JK Rowling in with the category of ~problematic artists~ and I need everyone to understand that is not the problem with her. She is not comparable to anyone who wrote a piece of fiction you hate, or someone who made rude comments in 2015 and has since learned better.

She is far more like Elon Musk. She is a radicalized person with an extreme amount of social and financial power, and for YEARS she has been using that power to try to influence her government into hurting vulnerable people, on purpose. And she has succeeded. THAT is the problem with her, and THAT is why spending money on her books is so dangerous, not because her books aged badly.

Critiquing her work is fine, of course (I personally was never a fan so I really don’t care) but you NEED to understand that fiction is not the main issue here. And I truly think acting like she’s the same as the rest of any giant list of ~problematic creators of the week~ waters down how dangerous she is.
