i'll make a longer post about this later on but i can't hate or dislike rhato the way a lot of fans do, even as the hardcore kory fan i am. it's because of the hardcore kory fan that i am that rhato, to me, is almost always factored in whenever im writing her in modern present day.

said it in a tag just now but that arc is very much kory's depression arc. a 2-3 years long depressive episode if you will. i understand the outrage over the ridiculousness of all the posing and how she was there to prop jason and roy (especially jason). i completely agree with that (and it's unrealistic that she wasn't the team leader because she has more experience and firepower than those two put together but i digress) but then i remember that i read further on in rhato than a lot of the people i see complaining about it when it comes to her.

kory's pov is blocked for a significant portion of the beginning of the run. she says and does things that look out of character and the amnesia was out of left field. that is until the outlaws are confronted by that bald alien later on and it's revealed that kory's amnesia was self inflicted. which honestly, if you look at her story up until that point, doesn't surprise me at all.

when kory came back to the titans in the early 2000's, she was dealing with her planet being dead and gone 3 times. the first was the destruction where her parents died. the second was where her husband died and they don't say when exactly she lost her baby but it's most likely that it happened around that time too. (my personal belief is that the grief of everything affected her so much that she miscarried). right after that, she comws back to earth and she and dick are at odds constantly and a bunch of other shit is going on there. the thing with her mercy killing adeline and everyone else is pissed at her for it. then that thing with her and ryand'r waging war and invading karna which her friends get mad at her for again. and then karna blows up, essentially being a third tamaran gone. and if i remember correctly there was a fourth destruction where komand'r had been housing their people.

that alone would drive any person mad but kory doesn't deal with it. she doesn't actively deal with it. and not to mention those years of that love triangle from hell where she didn't know where she stood with dick.

and this isn't even touching the century of sexual and physical torture she endured before ever stepping foot on earth. and in rhato, unlike NTT, we get to see flashbacks of her during that time. like these are all things that actively plague her mind daily so of course she'd at some point say enough and just essentially turn all that shit off.
