Here Lies the Boy known as Wilbur Soot

He was the best in the show, an apple of his kind, a diamond in the rough. One that was jagged at the edges and rotten to the core all the same.

He played his part in the only way he knew possible, taking hands outstretched his way with a smile filled with cyanide and eyes filled with graciousness at the humility of others over himself. Truly a sight to behold, what majesty. Such grace. To consider those below him when he had no time to do so with his touring and whatnot. How splendid.

He did all that he could to better himself, relinquishing his woes in song rather than working on himself in private. Not for the better of course, work is for the common after all. No, rather to air out his dirty laundry under the pretense of an act. And what an act it was. Haha, teehee, what a great act to see the incel he could never me. Who me?

Never.

A ship in a bottle, a cat in a castle, a banana peel on a sidewalk. Fragile to fall but nothing out of his control, small in a world far bigger than the one he knows, a punchline waiting its blows.

All of this was him.

At least, not the one he wanted to be. Or the one he wanted us to see. Rather the one he left backstage, in his dressing room, in a tote, under the desk, dead to the world that never knew he existed. Or in a chatroom, behind a door, even in the black mirror as soon as the stream ended. When the show was done, the audience left. There he was, the man disillusioned with the consequences of his actions. A taunt to everyone who wants to see the good in people, even when we know that's not true but we hope for it anyway.

He was the great pretender. He pushed the button, he sang the songs, he had a family, and he lost it all.

We fell for it, and we'll do it again.

But god damn it, there is a reason we mourn. At least the memory of them.

Because in this disappointment, we have community. In this sadness, we once had hope. In his name, we had worlds. We are the ones who will never see buttons the same way. We are the ones that are haunted by the implication of salmon. We are the ones who don't think of hallelujah when we hear that broken melody.

For the oldest of us, we will think of the soot house as a soot home before our lungs give out. And for the youngest, we will see everything that he promised us in his daughter and then some- because she's real. At least to us. and to anyone who dares to wonder who Wilbur Soot was, we will say "no one that matters." because he doesn't. It's what we take from him that dose.

I don't know about you, but L'manburg was made by Tommyinit as a safe space for his friends and his discs, Talulah was born not for a white man but out of hope, and soot house, that's a month-long coughing fit that gave me momentary highs in the suffocation.

Wilbur Soot is a name that has as much power as we give it, and I'm not giving it the satisfaction of my quarantine.

Here lies Wilbur Soot, a man that's grave is gonna be pissed on by those who remember it.

Except Techno. He played a blood thirsty anarchic tyrant, but he valued his friends dearly and did not manipulate them. What did that say about him outside of the SMP?

Everything checks out. He’s competitive in real life, but there’s no real murder involved pfft. He respects his friends. Niki once said that Techno even tried teaching her some pvp techniques and was the only one that made her feel welcomed when she was still new (everyone was mostly ignoring her)

I don’t doubt Niki’s judgement and I firmly believe Techno was a good person which makes the situation all the more sadder. He passed away believing Wilbur was someone companionable and trustworthy.

I want to say first off that I support and believe victims. I've gone through similar things irl. It's why the DSMP was so cathartic for me as a teen.

So, I was big into MYCT. Right? It got me through COVID, some pretty rough life transitions, and a lot of my worse days. There were moments when I would do my dishes while watching a Wilbur Soot video, and it would make my day. That being said:

It's kind of weird that we watched Wilbur Soot and Dream role-playing abusing a real life teenager in mine craft, and are shocked by them being real abusers, right?

But the more I think about it, the more I wonder to myself: should I have seen this coming? Because let's not kid ourselves: the ways in which the DSMP characters of Wilbur Soot and Dream depict emotional and physical abuse were scary realistic. The more I think on ot, the more I wonder if maybe c!Wilbur going insane in that canyon while c!Tommy watches and frantically tries to help resembles what actually happened IRL. The more I think in the ways in which c!dream gaslit, isolated and abused c!tommy, the more I begin to wonder.

Now, I'm not saying it's wrong to enjoy angst, or dark themes in storytelling, or even that role-playing and storytelling are indicative of a person being an abuser or a bad person.

The revived are not apart of the natural order; fear and hatred was what sustained their form, keeping them alive.

Luckily, Tommy was dead for only a few seconds before Dream revived him, however, Wilbur had been dead for 13 years.

Now, Wilbur must cross the rainbow bridge once and for all.

Imagine a futuristic cyberpunk dsmp AU. . Wilbur is a singer/pop star, Tommy is a rebellious hacker child that hacks into police database when he sees the injustice happening to working class citizens. Phil is pro organic life and denounces technological advancements. Techno lives with Phil and decides to take matters into his own hands and abolish the government from the inside out. Dream pulls the strings. Also—ordinary people are working class and barely get by to live, crime is rampant, law enforcement are corrupt and get paid by CEOs of large companies or corporations to hide illegal activities they do. Idk just an idea I have. I got more expansion to do.

Techno drawing his sword from his hip is my head-canon since having it on his back is impractical because it’d prevent his cape from flowing behind him smoothly. Dream, on the other hand has his sword on his back because having his sword’s scabbard attached to his waist means he won’t be able to run as fast as he could especially since he’s a speedrunner. He needs all the agility he can get which brings me to my other point. Dream is agile meaning his sword will also have to accommodate to his fighting style (agility) His sword is very long for far combat and thin to make it light to carry. He tires his enemies out then uses a trick/trap to apprehend them then gives the finishing blow. Techno, meanwhile wields a very bulky and heavy sword that is excellent for heavy blows. Heavy blows resulting in devastating damage. I noticed the way Techno fights in MCC and Minecraft in general. He does crits and combos even though it’s unnecessary in the version he’s playing (im assuming it’s because of old habits) He charges his attack before hitting his opponent which is where all the damage he does comes from {example: GJPeak freaking out in MCC and asking why Techno does so much damage with one hit } Dream on the other hand just spams his mouse and tries to hit as many times as he can which is also effective if you take into account his blocking and dodging skills.

They’re suppose to fight in the end but I didn’t include it. Basically this is a canon-divergence. After Dream kills Tommy, Techno helps him out of the prison without knowing that he killed him. This is sort of the moment Techno finds out after Dream brags about killing Tommy.
