Earlier this year, @tsimediainc hosted a photo project, and featured me in a session addressing toxic masculinity, heteronormativity, and common societal conceptions of manliness. I was asked to write some simple poetic lines for each picture, and for this, is this:

Like Figurines Who May Fall

Breaking is a habit, and every boy is not a burlesque caricature. So if you say you don’t want to see a boy cry because men don’t, You say you want to really watch a boy die, hid behind a sick norm.

The attire for survival is a breakable fierceness, I say, when we are Overwhelmed by the overwhelming, it is okay to overflow, because Letting out pain is a strategy to conquering new lifelong quests.

And boys are just like you, you see, like Figurines who may fall and be shattered; this is because, we are all as weak as we are strong, And being ordinary vessels of life, we can control very little.

The things with skyrocket eyes The stars are loveable wishes, sometimes... When looked upon and asked to make a thing Happen, like fulfilling a dream of a child with A dying mother, they work super hard to just Do it, because they know that you look upon Them as beings capable of weaving surrealism Into life — but they're not —. Stars are people Wanting to live their own wills, do the things they Are happy to do without being forced to; but Because they're too kind to think of what they're Asked for as responsibilities, we make our Pleas to them rights, and hate them when they Fail to be who we want them to become. And They're like every boy also looking upon them And wishing they'd be set free, like people with Radical insides — the things with skyrocket eyes. When @tsimediainc sent me this photo for the first time, I thought to myself: this is a tired body, a completely exhausted body. In Africa, Nigeria especially, male children are expected to be too many things, trained to be too many things, but not what they really want to be. The desperation in making males stones, in Africa, is exhausting. Today, July 5th was supposed to mark the end of Pride Week in Georgia with a Pride March in the capital Tbilisi.

Homophobic Pro Putin forces and religious groups lead by Georgian Orthodox church have been making threats for the entire week that they wouldn't allow it. Today morning these hate groups stormed the offices of Tbilisi Pride and the Shame Movement, they also physically assaulted journalists and peaceful civilians. The government and police won't do anything about it. Tbilisi Pride had to cancel today's march to avoid further escalation and violence.
