Famed Berghain denier doorman Sven Marquardt gets a thumbs down trying to enter Sydney Nightclub!
A new post has been published on EDM Life at https://edmlife.com/famed-berghain-denier-doorman-sven-marquardt-gets-a-thumbs-down-trying-to-enter-sydney-nightclub/
In a bit of news which will make some of you chuckle, the famous (infamous?) Berlin doorman Sven Marquardt known for his thumb down to many a clubber attempting entry into Berghain was himself denied entry into a club in Sydney Australia recently. Marquardt, in town for an exhibition of his photography, attempted to enter a club but was said to be denied due to his facial piercings. (We heard off the record apparently he wasn’t wearing enough black as well).

After weeks of drama, Ultra Miami confirms Virginia Key as their new home
A new post has been published on EDM Life at https://edmlife.com/after-weeks-of-drama-ultra-miami-confirms-virginia-key-as-their-new-home/
After being booted from its downtown Miami home of the past several years, Ultra and the City of Miami have entered into an agreement for the festival to take place at nearby Virginia Key.
The agreement is for multiple years however the City can end the contract at their option after next year if the event is seen as a headache.
Ultra has agreed to pay a rental fee of $2 million for the right to hold the festival.
During the past several weeks several roadblocks have arisen such as the agreement already in place for the Rapture Music Festival at the same general location (the fate of this event is unknown) as well as Key Biscayne residents protesting the move and a smear campaign launched as well.
The event’s new location will allow it to end at 2AM rather than before midnight (11pm on Sunday) as well as a greater capacity than at its prior location.
Regardless, one of the most well known EDM music festivals in the world has a new home for the time being and potentially for years to come.

Major Soundcloud news on Artists Earnings, Software Integrations and More
A new post has been published on EDM Life at https://edmlife.com/major-soundcloud-news-on-artists-earnings-software-integrations-and-more/
After The Verge published an article questioning the new terms of service (TOS) as being unfair to artists/djs for the new Soundcloud Premier program, Soundcloud has revised the terms to be more favorable to artists using the platform. The new unfriendly terms included unclear payment dates, payout rates that can change at any time and a mandatory arbitration clause instead of allowing artists to sue.
This included the following clause that artists:
“forever discharge us and our related parties from all claims … including any and all actual or alleged acts of copyright infringement.”
The upshot is that if an artist found Soundcloud did not take action on copyright infringement, the artist cannot sue. This also would prevent an artist from suing if they believe they were shortchanged on revenue owed.
In some good news, SoundCloud announced new partnerships with Native Instruments, Serato, Hercules, Mixvibes and DEX3 which allow you to stream tracks found on SoundCloud’s right into DJ software. For those with a SoundCloud Go+ account, one can stream songs in its newly added AAC 256kbps song quality option. All of the integrations other than Serato are planned for 2019 while Serato is expected in 2020.
“Until recently, digital workflows for DJs were limited to downloads and physical media, but streaming workflows are the future,” said Kerry Trainor, Chief Executive Officer, SoundCloud.
Of course djing in this manner requires a stable wifi connection, something that cannot be guaranteed at all venues.
In the final bit of Soundcloud news and big for djs who have uploaded mixtapes and run afoul of the 3 strike copyright system, the streaming service has partnered with Dubset to allow for the proper attribution of song plays to artists which have uploaded their tracks to Dubset. Dubset CEO Stephen White said in a statement:
“SoundCloud is where content creators live. It is the most important platform on the planet for creators and the ultimate partner for Dubset. Mixes and remixes not only establish incremental new revenue for artists and composers, they have proven over and over to be powerful music discovery growth tools, consistently driving growth in plays of the original track as well. We are very excited to bring Dubset’s clearance capabilities to SoundCloud’s users.”
At this time this will be a beta-only release for select remixes.

Swedish House Mafia announce Stockholm as 1st 2019 tour stop and more
A new post has been published on EDM Life at https://edmlife.com/swedish-house-mafia-announce-stockholm-as-1st-2019-tour-stop-and-more/
Earlier this week the reunited Swedish House Mafia did a press conference (all in Swedish – grrrr) where they talked about getting back together, their Miami Ultra show and 2019 plans.
First off they announced their first 2019 tour stop at Stockholm on May 4, 2019 at the Tele2 Arena. Being from Sweden it makes perfect sense to relaunch their shows then.
In addition, a new countdown timer is now active on their site, potentially leading to the next tour date(s) being announced.
Also, the trio was asked about the reason that the Ultra Miam live feed was just done via one static camera from the back of the stage. The lads cryptically said that it was done and purpose and we’d see why in the future.

The Black Madonna confronts ticket scammer, gives free tix to affected fans
A new post has been published on EDM Life at https://edmlife.com/the-black-madonna-confronts-ticket-scammer-gives-free-tix-to-affected-fans/
Unfortunately in today’s digital world its quite easy to create realistic looking fake tickets for sale. This past weekend one ‘entrepreneur’ decided to make some extra cash by selling fake tickets to the Black Madonna’s show at Lot 613 in downtown LA.
When the artist found out that some of her fans had bought tickets via a scammer who posted they had tickets on the Facebook event page for her show and got taken, she added each person to her personal guest list and outed the scammer as well! Check out the dj’s conversation below!
