Originally made this for a reddit (r/ElectricForest) art competition but ended up turning it into a full piece. For some reason a space deer was the first thing that came to mind when thinking of my favorite festival.
I just finished reading Electric Forest by Tanith Lee, and holy cow! It rewired my brain!
Magdala, a woman who is deformed, meets a man who has her consciousness transferred to a beautiful body, a clone of his ex-lover. Magdala is thrown into a world of espionage, but as we explore it with her, questions arise. I had to reread the epilogue because it threw me for a loop! There's a Philip K. Dick twist at the end with a disturbing commentary about the secret ways colonialism can infect a people and world. Between all of this is ruminations on beauty and ugliness, mixed with religious symbolism. My review.
