Me in the 70s watching two men come back from a camping trip a small smile and look is shared between them, a single tent is pulled from the trunk. The other was taken by the terrible storm on their first night but they made due with the cramped space the last tent provided, whose to say what happened the other nights in which they were so closely quartered. But now they separate and I watch as the wife of one man gives him a hug, the man’s smile shifts but stays on his face anyway. The other man’s eyes are stormy but he gives a tight smile to the woman before he leaves.

Weird things I have learned being a manager Week 1:

I am responsible for my own schedule, I was not told this until it was 3/4 through the week and the GM (general manager) asked me if I took any days off.

Today in my ultimate wisdom I looked at my kitchen ceiling lights and audibly said “wow I didn’t realize I had speakers on my ceiling” and once the hamster that acts as the power source of my brain decided their smoke break was over I felt the most powerful shame I could.

You know how in most renditions of the seven deadly sins lust is always someone who is lusted after instead of someone consumed in lust. . . What if you made the other sins like that.

Pride: A self help guru who makes other people so “confident” in themselves that it becomes toxic. (Or like a alpha male podcaster or something)

Envy: Someone who excels in everything (like a typical Pride depiction) and is an ass about it.

Lust: A very sexy person (maybe make them a shapeshifter?)

Gluttony: A extraordinary chef who only cooks for one person a night and their waitlist is like a mile long. (Or a food content creator who makes more food than they could ever eat)

Wrath: Someone who is constantly having other people fight their battles or is emotionally manipulating others into breaking down relationships. (Narcissists)

Greed: Someone who appears to be easily manipulated into giving everything to everyone. But only one person can get it. (Mr. Beast)

Sloth: Someone who is so wrapped up in drama that it physically tires everyone out. (Or a trainer that is so overly aggressive that it makes you want to give up)

Essential Beat Sheet for Writers

7. B Story: The subplot kicks in—often a relationship or secondary goal that supports the main story’s theme.

8. Fun and Games: The “heart” of the story. Deliver on the premise and explore the stakes through action, conflict, and character growth.

9. Midpoint: A major turning point where everything changes. Stakes are raised. Success feels closer—or failure looms larger.

10. Bad Guys Close In: External and internal pressures mount. Allies falter. Enemies strike. Doubts creep in.

11. All Is Lost: The darkest moment. The protagonist experiences a significant loss or setback.

12. Dark Night of the Soul: A pause for reflection. Your protagonist processes their failure and digs deep to find the courage to move forward.

ACT THREE: RESOLUTION

13. Break Into Three: Armed with new insight or strength, the protagonist takes decisive action to face the story’s central conflict.

14. Finale: The climax. Everything comes to a head in a final showdown or resolution. Your protagonist proves they’ve changed—or failed to.

15. Closing Image: A mirror of the opening image, showing how the world—and your protagonist—has transformed.
