An issue with a lot of whump and injury writing guides is that they also tend to assume that the characters are always able-bodied but like.
It's been proven over and over again that people with chronic pain have higher tolerances for everyday pain, including things that would leave other people crying or screaming. When you experience dizziness, body aches, chills, etc as just your baseline, those things aren't a good indicator that you're injured or bleeding. Even mild concussions are very hard to notice when you have chronic headaches/migraines (speaking from experience).
And those are just the experiences of general chronic pain, not even more severe and debilitating conditions that can completely warp someone's relationship to their body and their brain's way of processing pain.

A whumpee returns home bloody, bruised and probably about to pass out. Caretaker spots them and instead of panicking, just sighs and goes to grab the first aid kit.
"Didn't I tell you that if you're going to pick a fight with someone to at least win the fight?"
"I did. You should see the other guy."

thinking about Whumpees being hugged as a way to both comfort and restrain them when they have injuries that need to be treated (painfully)

Had a sudden vision of two people getting out of a battle or otherwise violent situation and instantly embracing/kissing each other (if they are kissing bonus points if its their first) and when they pull back being all giggly and excited to have survived only to suddenly realise one of them is injured. Badly.

Whumpee was sat in the back of the car, staring blankly out the window. Youngest got into the back as well, and they watched as Teammate walked around and got into the passenger seat.
Leader and Teammate spoke to each other quietly, and then Leader started the car. The two continued to talk for the majority of the journey, but Youngest couldn’t really hear what they were saying.
They turned back to Whumpee. There was blood in their hair and on the shoulder of their jacket. Youngest couldn’t see it very well, but there was also a lot of blood on the right side of their face. They leaned across the middle seat and took Whumpee's hand.
They turned to look at them. There was something off about their eyes. They looked unfocused. Their pupils were the wrong size, as well. “…are you ok?” Whumpee didn’t answer at first, as if testing the question out and then trying to think of an answer. Eventually they shrugged. “I will be.”

TW for emeto!
Ok so one thing I don't see much (I think I've only seen it once or twice) is stress vomiting
Which I can assure you is a real thing because I do it
(at least, we're assuming that's what the problem is? It's only happened three times but the most recent two have been so similar I assume they're caused by the same thing, and I know the first one was stress)
Basically the way it's been the last two times was: I woke up earlier than usual feeling shitty
Like the first thing I did after getting up was throw up, either into the toilet or the bin
But then I'd feel fine after that so I assumed it was no big deal (but I still told my parents)
Only to throw up again 5 minutes later.
This process of me throwing up every 5 minutes would then repeat for the next 3 hours until they managed to stop and I could just take a 2 hour nap
(well I'm never really asleep because I'm still vaguely conscious? It's weird) And then after that I was just fine for the rest of the day.
The first time was different because I threw up once and then I was fine, but the second two times have followed the every 5 minutes thing.
but yeah make your whumpees throw up when stressed
if it's not fun for me it won't be fun for them

I want Caretakers who legitimately do care for their whumpees paired with whumpees who just fucking hate their caretakers for personal reasons.
Just Caretaker/Caretakers trying to make amends and care for their Whumpee/Whumpees but they are having none of it
"Does anywhere hurt?" "Shut the fuck up"

one thing I’ve seen people who aren’t in the whump community, or people who are in the whump community, tend to think is that whump is a trauma response only. and while whump can be a trauma response to some (completely valid), it doesn’t always have to be a trauma response to everyone who enjoys / finds comfort in whump. this is, in my opinion, one of the things a lot of people get wrong when it comes to whump. I mean I can see why people tend to think that. because having whump as one’s trauma response is absolutely valid and a lot of people have whump as their trauma response, although some people just enjoy whump and find comfort in whump for completely different reasons, and that is valid too.

This just randomly came to me but:
Whumpee having a really vivid fever dream that they were enemies with/against their team/caretaker
Either way, it's so vivid that when they wake up they believe it was real and instantly try to escape when they realise they're in their team's base.
So you can imagine their team/caretaker's panic when they find the feverish and bedbound Whumpee's bed empty
And even more so when they find Whumpee and Whumpee starts acting like they're enemies for seemingly no reason

A little possession snippet cause lunch break and brain coincided for once!
TW: Afterman of possession, with possession still mentioned/occuring.
Even before they were fully conscious, Whumpee felt the aches. The aches and stiffness enveloped their entire body, weighing them down, squeezing the breath from their lungs.
But that’s not sustainable. Regardless of the pain, they needed air.
The sharp breath only flared more pain in their ribs, down their spine and radiating through their throat. It all hurt.
“Whumpee? Are you awake?”
An accidental whine answered Caretaker’s question. Whumpee knew they should answer them, knew they should try to sit up, but it was too much. They just wanted to go back to sleep. They needed rest. Real rest, not the nothingness they drifted in and out of when It was sleeping. Or dormant. Or hiding - whatever It did when not piloting their body around.
“Please, Whumpee you need to drink this.”
Whumpee cracked their eye open, slowly glancing up to caretaker’s face from the cold concrete they were laying on. Too sore, hurt too much to move.
But they never did get what they wanted.
Biting their lip to keep in the pitiful whimpers, Whumpee slowly pressed up to a half sitting position. Caretaker was right there, guiding them up, supporting their sides and slowly guiding them to sit against the wall. Whumpee was dizzy for just a moment, and when they finally got their berings, a single look at Caretaker’s bruised face made their heart drop.
“C-Caretaker? Did I do that?”
Caretaker swallowed. “It’s not your fault. I was… insubordinate.”
A shiver went up Whumpee’s spine, collecting in the base of their skull and jaw. It was listening. It wasn’t repentant.
“I think It’s still here,” whumpee whispered, as if that would do any good. The presence was seared into their mind, peering into their memories and influencing their thoughts. It felt behind them, watching over their shoulder, even with their back propped up against the wall.
Caretaker only nodded, lifting up the cup referenced earlier. “Here. We put this together. It should help get some of your strength back.”
Whumpee nodded, carefully holding it with both hands and taking a sip. They barely tasted it. The thought to refuse was so brief it saddened them. But even if they did try It would just regain control and make them.
They couldn’t force themself to make eye contact with Caretaker, but they could feel their companion’s eyes. Their gentle concern was so blatant it radiated from them. Whumpee felt as if they didn’t deserve it, couldn’t accept it. Caretaker rested their hand on Whumpee’s knee, thumb gently rubbing on some small patch of unbruised skin.
The softness was killing them.
Whumpee’s voice broke as they reached out, but Caretaker understood. They moved to sit with Whumpee against the wall, cradling their head to Caretaker’s shoulder and arm secured around them. There, safe and comforted, Whumpee broke completely into sobs. They wanted out, they wanted to go home. They wanted their body back - their life back.
“I know,” Caretaker shushed softly, carding their fingers through Whumpee’s hair. “I know.”

Today's random curiosity question! Why did you choose your username? Am I the only one who gets intrigued by this? lol I'll go first: I saw an article online about a cafe called A Thousand Blessings, and let me just say that food was not the first thing on my mind when I read the title.

This is a writing I love from my old blog, please enjoy :)
"Whumpee! Whumpee oh thank god, are you ok?!"
The caretaker's heart broke as they saw the whumpee flinch at their voice, they looked up, their eyes stayed locked on the doorway even as the caretaker rushed to the whumpee's side, pulling them into a gentle hug.
The whumpee melted in the caretaker's embrace, "I... c-caretaker please take it off I c-can't, please," the whumpee's voice shook.
"What do you..." the caretaker looked for any restraints, but couldn't see what the whumpee was talking about, "What do you want me to take off?"
The whumpee looked panicked, their eyes were vacant, "please I can't, I can't s-see please take it off," tears began to drip down the whumpee's face.
The caretaker's eyes widened, their throat felt tight.
The whumpee wasn't wearing a blindfold.
"Whumpee, take a breath ok, it's all going to be ok."
"Please, please I- I want to see you, I want to k-know it's over- please," the whumpee took in hitched gasps between words.
"Shushhh, it's ok, I know," the caretaker pulled the whumpee back into their arms, cradling their head against their shoulder, "I'm here, even if you can't see me, I'm here. It's over."
"Please take it off," the whumpee's voice was a weak whisper.
"Whumpee, I- I'm so sorry-"
"please."
"You're," the caretaker hesitated, "whumpee there's nothing over your eyes, nothing to take off. I- I'm so sorry."
A sob escaped the whumpee's lips, "I c-can't caretaker, please. Please I can't see."
The caretaker's heart felt like it would break in half, "I know, I know I'm so sorry,"
"I- I can't," the whumpee pulled back, freeing their hands to rub at their eyes, "I can't- no, no no, please! Please they, they can't take another thing, I- I want to see you, please," the whumpee let out another broken sob.
"Come here, don't," the caretaker gently pushed the whumpee's hands away from their face, "you'll hurt yourself."
The whumpee let their hands be moved, tears streaming down their face.
"p-please."
There was nothing the caretaker could do.
