Being non binary and transgender means constantly wondering which bathroom to use. Which one will I get fewer stares in? Which one will I be harassed in? Which one is safe? It also means doing a happy dance when you see a sign like this. Even if it means you have to go across the building, or down two flights of stairs, you know that this bathroom feels safe. A couple of months ago I was at the airport. I had the choice of three bathrooms. Men, women, or family. The family bathroom had the man and woman symbol on it so I chose that one. A few minutes later this woman is banging on the door. I tell her I'll be right out but she continues banging non stop until I come out. As I exit, she starts yelling at me and cursing at me in front of a sea of people and her toddler son. I tell her this was the only appropriate bathroom for me to use and she continues yelling at me. There was another, empty, family restroom right next to the one I was using. Above = 2016. Below = 2017. Today is my T anniversary. One year today. I purposefully started on Samhain because its supposed to be my favorite day of the year. Inevitably, something always goes wrong so I decided I would make it a day Id always want to celebrate. So...its 2017 and another Halloween where everything is going wrong. Things I have noticed about my body lately: 1. My shoulders and arms are more muscular than they have ever been. 2. Convinced I know have a dog ear under my other arm pit. Argh! 3. I need a haircut but I cant be bothered. 4. My hair is so curly now. 5. Binders are so uncomfortable (this has nothing to do with my body). 6.
