☆ New song We are nearly there with finishing a new song. We will likely upload the video in October. This time we asked a wonderful illustrator to create the video, so both iski and I are really looking forward to the final form! I have received the sketches and layout and I couldn’t help but grin when looking at them. We will announce the date about a week before the upload. I would be glad if again I could ask for your support and retweets/reblogs!

☆ New member We were trying to find the timing and opportunity to announce this, but in the end there wasn’t the right chance so I would like to say it here. In June, “Ei-chan” joined us as a new member! Ei-chan is a Czech from the Czech Republic. She is fluent in English and Japanese, and she has been assisting us with all English matters on this site and YouTube. She was already supporting us and in charge of translations before she joined, after joining she also gives us advice on management of our group. We had her write her profile here, so if you are interested, check it out ♪ If we hold a concert in the future, she said that she would like to participate as a keyboardist, so we would love to make it come true!

Q-MHz - introduction

If you’re a fan of anime songs, seiyuu songs, or even anime and music separately, you might give this article a read.

I have seen a few mentions of Q-MHz on various English websites, but I haven’t encountered an in-depth article so far. I have therefore taken the liberty of writing one myself.

On October 29th, 2015, exciting news flew around the anime and music fan community. On this day, a number of information websites, including Music Nataly and Animate.tv, announced that four prominent figures of anime music industry, namely Hata Aki, Kurosu Katsuhiko, Tashiro Tomokazu and Tabuchi Tomoya (UNISON SQUARE GARDEN) have formed a producer/songwriter team.

Hata Aki is one of the best-known lyricists in the anime music industry. She has penned the lyrics of all songs in and related to the popular school idol anime Love Live! Her other notable works include lyrics for songs featured in the Suzumiya Haruhi series, My-HiME series, Lucky Star or Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka? and for artists such as sphere, Chihara Minori, Shimizu Ai and many more.

Kurosu Katsuhiko is a composer and bassist who has written numerous songs for seiyuu and idol artists, such as Kamiya Hiroshi, Suzumura Kenichi, sphere, Hirano Aya, Aoi Eir, Gero and idols of the Johnny’s Entertainment. He has also composed famous anime songs such as “Futatsu no Kodou to Akai Tsumi” (Vampire Knight OP, sung by ON/OFF) or “Sore wa Bokura no Kiseki” (Love Live! OP).

Tashiro Tomokazu is a composer known for his work on the Suzumiya Haruhi series songs (lyrics written by Hata), such as the famous “Hare Hare Yukai”. His other compositions include “The world is all one!” (IDOLM@STER), “Koi no Hime Hime Pettanko” (Yowamushi Pedal, sung by Tamura Yukari) or “CHOIR JAIL” (Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, sung by Suzuki Konomi, co-composed by Urata Masakatsu).

Tabuchi Tomoya is a songwriter and the bassist of the band UNISON SQUARE GARDEN. Besides the band itself being in charge of theme songs of anime such as Kekkai Sensen, Tiger & Bunny or Yozakura Quartet, Tabuchi himself has written other anime songs such as the opening for Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (sung by Tomatsu Haruka) and Denpa Kyoushi (sung by sphere) or character songs for Yozakura Quartet.

The members have expressed that their aim is to write and produce good and enjoyable anime songs. They are also going to maintain their solo activities. Except releasing their first album on January 27th, 2016, it has been announced that Q-MHz will be in charge of writing the theme song for this year’s anime song festival, Animelo Summer Live 2016.

Q-MHz - first album

The eponymous debut album of Q-MHz features five guest female vocalists active in the anime music industry - LiSA, Komatsu Mikako, Suzuki Konomi, Touyama Nao and Nanjo Yoshino - as well as a rich assortment of music arrangers and musicians of various genres. The lyrics and song composition of all ten songs are credited to Q-MHz and the members have also participated in the recording, providing backing vocals or the bass (Kurosu, Tabuchi) and the guitar (Tashiro) in some songs.

LiSA is known for her powerful vocals which blend well with a band ensemble. She has provided the vocals of Yui, second vocalist of the fictional girl band Girls Dead Monster in the anime Angels Beats! She has also sung the opening for Sword Art Online, “crossing field” and opening for Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, “Rising Hope”.

Komatsu Mikako is a seiyuu as well as a singer. Her major roles include Tachibana in Aoharu x Kikanjuu, Totsuka in Oregairu, Neko in K Project or Tsugumi in Nisekoi. Her songs usually have rock elements in them, anime-related works include the endings for Aoharu x Kikanjuu, K or Sunday Without God.

Suzuki Konomi is a singer whose songs are usually associated with heavy genres such as hard rock or metal. She debuted with the opening for Tasogare Otome x Amnesia; her later works comprise opening and ending for Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo or opening for Watamote.

Touyama Nao is a seiyuu whose major roles are Yuigahama in Oregairu, Chitoge in Nisekoi, Kanon in The World Only God Knows or Chiho in Hataraku Maou-sama! Before this album, she never sang as an independent singer, only character songs.

Nanjo Yoshino is a seiyuu and singer. Her major roles in anime include Ayase Eli in Love Live! or Akiho in Robotics;Notes. Except her activity as a member of μ's (Love Live!), she is famous for the opening of To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, “only my railgun”, a song by the duo fripSide, in which she is the vocalist.

Each of the guest vocalists sang two songs in the album - one which is in line with their usual musical style and one of a kind which they have not quite done before, and which may therefore present a new side of the vocalist even to their ardent fans.

The genre of this album ranges widely, from rock to jazz and upbeat pop to a variety of ballads. Try listening to following digests to get the vibe of the actual music!

Toyonaga Toshiyuki announced getting married to a woman who’s not seiyuu on his blog in October 2015.

Kawamoto Naru announced getting married to an actress/performer Haga Kayo in August 2013.

Sawashiro Miyuki announced getting married to a man who’s not seiyuu in June 2014.

Hikasa Yoko announced her marriage in December 2015.

Say, aside from Mamo x his mystery wife (lol) and SuzuKen x Sakamoto Maaya, is there any other seiyuu who's married? *note: this is a serious question*

Hey there, I thought that this was more of a question than a confession, so I’m gonna answer it here!

iski & syunkit, a music duo which I cheer on and I do translations for, has recently released their new song, Awayuki Friends  (Friends of Light Snow). Awayuki Friends is in the style of anime songs, with a touch of nostalgic timbre to it. Please try and listen!

iski & syunkit formed in 2014 and have been uploading their original songs to Japanese video-sharing site Nico Nico Douga (NND) and, recently, YouTube. iski is the main vocalist and participates in writing lyrics, while syunkit is in charge of music composition and arrangement, the lead guitar, drawing most of the illustrations used in videos and occasionally backing vocals. Each song is released in two versions - one sung by the vocalist iski and the other by the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku.

Their songs are distinctive in having a retro touch to them, as well as striking a balance of the clear and beautiful vocals of iski with the catchy sound of syunkit’s guitar. So far they seem to have been inspired by disco of old times, French pop, the Japanese “kayoukyoku” (a Western-inspired genre popular in the Showa era, also said to be the predecessor to modern J-pop) and funk. With their new work, however, they have touched upon the genre of anime songs, so it can be expected that they will challenge other kinds of tunes as well.

Anyone who likes music with a retro feeling, is interested in nooks and crannies of Japanese culture which aren’t necessarily mainstream, enjoys guitar-main songs or clear female vocals, I recommend giving a try and listening. You can of course listen to the song sung by the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku as well and compare it to the original version. That is also one way of enjoying the works!
