What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?

An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:

I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.

Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.

A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)

So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.

They're my OCs! Joyce, Jonny, Danny and Angela. I've had them for like 20 years lol Ever since I got hyperfixated on Disco I barely drew them, but they were my beloveds before that. I made two short comics and a little sketchbook with J&J between 2020 and 2022. I just don't know how to even approach portraying them the way I see for the viewer, how to make them engaging, and if I'm being honest it feels very embarrassing to share a story I am so deeply attached to

obsessed with Kim kitsuragi and how good he is at hiding his wetpatheticsadness. he's so so good at it he even fooled Harry can opener du bois. he even fooled himself. he's a tin soldier. nothing but thin walls and hollow insides. he has hobbies but only indulges them so privately that no one else knows about them. he doesn't even make time to eat unless you bat your eyelashes at him. he wants to punch the little cardboard pieces out of the new board game but won't let you know until after you've already done it. he asks you if doing speed helped you be a better detective not to reprimand you but because he's considering doing it himself. he has a little blue notebook containing all of his thoughts that you can never look inside (blue is for mystery. / the blue heart. don't look into it). he falls so madly in love with a complete disaster of a messy bear within 4 days of meeting him he can take a bullet for him and defend him against his own institution and nurse him back to health while sitting vigil for 2 days with no sleep. all because the guy is fun and likes to get to know him and thinks he's cool. he thinks about Harry's girthy biceps for what is assumedly at least a day or two. he only lets himself have one cigarette a day unless harry doesn't suggest he transfer to the 41st, a rule he never breaks otherwise even when he was concussed and alone. he even has autism

This game really touched my heart... and gave me so much inspiration... this is my tribute

I want to mention @thirdchildart , her work with visual metaphors was huge inspiration for this comics too, especially that stream where she was talking about visual storytelling in her tma animatic
